In a raid environment, my crit rating is about 42% without FM. With FM, my DPS seems to rise a fair amount because of the number of hot streaks. In a fight where I may be around 4700 DPS, I'm suddenly hitting 5600-6k+
One of the mages in my guild said that Focus Magic benefits Moonkins more-so than mages. I don't understand how this can be.
Anyone have any information on this? Thanks

i don't really see a difference....i mean i never use it in my guilds. But i gotta start using it
i mean, it increases spell damage...so it would benefit all spell casters the same...
oh wait....i'm dumb....
i'm thinking of Amplify Magic...
edit: yay for stupidity!

Last I checked actually a Fire Mage benifits more... just by default Boomkins tend to have a higher crit rating, so mages often FM them as it's likely to proc more often.

why wouldnt you just trade it with another mage and get 6% crit instead of 3?
How exactly do you come up with 6%?

i do that usually i did a raid with 3 mages yet we didnt do a chain i didnt get a lot of pyroblasts that time and with the 6% you get 3% from the buff and 3% when they crit

finally someone non-retarded posts. giving it to an elemental shaman is a waste since they crit every 8 seconds anyway, there's no need for them to have 3% more. boomkins need crit for eclipse procs and spriests need it for...the t1 talent that increases mana regen when mindblast crits, forget the name. destro locks have a 100% chance to crit whenever their imp crits, so it may be useful to put it on the imp and not them (joking), so locks don't really need FM that much. holy palis have insane crit as is and don't benefit that much from 3% more since they would be nearing crit DR through their main healing nuke. anyway, crit rating value in terms of highest spellpower/DPS gain: FFB mage-->TtW/fire mage-->boomkin-->spriest-->elem shammy/destro lock (tie, since both have guaranteed crits)

Can you give it to pets? Because if so a geared Demonic Lock might be the best bet cuz when the pet crits, everyone gets +Spell Power from Demonic Pact which if the Lock stacks a lot of spell power could be one of the best buffs for casters.
Demonic Pact, of course, giving 10% of the Lock's spell power to the raid. Normally people use Shamans for this.. but Demonic Pact could stack higher because of it being 10% of the Lock's Spell Power.

3+3=6 You cast it on another mage. He casts his on you. You both have a standard 3% crit from having the buff on you, and you get another 3% crit when it procs.

I don't really know the math, (who does ) But Moonkins get pretty large bonus from it too. More Eclipse Proc(30% crit or +30% dmg to different nukes) + each crits regens 2% their total mana. Ele shams get clearcasting proc 40% less mana for 2 spells + 10% more dmg. Spriest Don't scale well with haste but crit is a good dps increase for them. Holy pallies get more illumination proc (Mana back, larger heals). Fire mages get more Hot streak proc (instant pyro) + some regen. So take your pick. I make my guildies do /roll for focus magic and save me the headache
