I'm not the only person using this spec (siphon life/felguard leading to SM/FG at 79), I'm not claiming to be some unique snowflake!

But I made a video to show my friends the sheer power of all the WotLK changes (not just talent additions) that combine to make a pretty kickass leveling spec (I've tried them all, and this one blew the others away):

http://warcraftmovies.com/movieview.php?id=89547

It's narrated by me (yes, that's me, yes, girls do play WoW, yes, we are in raid guilds!) and I really had a blast making it. I filmed on and off from about 73 to 79, and then had fun picking interesting snippets to fit into a 4-minute video.

I even picked my favorite elite to show the spec doing well soloing group quests.

It's not complete without a nod to Gobo of <Vendetta>, whose TBC movie with a healer gave me the idea of making this movie -- without a healer of course, since we don't need one now.

** WARNING: There's WotLK spoilers. If you don't want to see quests, XP grinding areas, mobs, etc., then don't watch. **

I got good reviews from my friends, so figured I'd throw it up on warcraftmovies and link it here as well. I hope it inspires at least one other person to give it a shot and break out of the "I will level destro!" or "I will level affliction!" mindset and go with a solid two-tree build.

If nothing else there's few things more fun than taking on an entire camp. And living.

Some of the stuff on the video may not be as clear as I'd like, like the talent trees, so I also wrote up an article about it. The page also has some tips that I couldn't figure out how to fit into the video well:

http://strats.fusion-guild.org/index.php/WarlockLevelingWotLK

It explains, for example, why I think this spec is stronger than a more traditional leveling spec of deep affliction would be.

(this is a duplicate of my WoW forums post, apologies to anyone who has to sit through it twice!)

leveling is hard amirite?

Also: A video of someone doing the exact same thing (OMG I DOT THINGS AND RUN AROUND ON MY LOCK) was released before BC, and people cried foul at that too, even though all classes were capable of similar feats of mass-destruction in good gear. I remember it clearly, which is why its funny how history repeats itself.

we didnt need a healer to begin whith...

i never consitert the FG insted of going depper aff. only real thing you seam to do better is keeping youre repair cost lower then whith deep affi (where you just tank the mobbs youre self while dot/draining.

nice watch thou, but i stil miss UA :p
(and think i be using it for levling my lock when the time comes to get it up)

Nice vid! Definitely a nice spec to level with. I've tried it out but the main problem with both it and deep Affliction is in highly congested areas where you can't really get a tag off. It's frustrating to DoT a bunch of mobs up and have half of them end up tagged by some other guy trying to leech off of you :/

To stay on topic, thanks for the vid. Assuming things stay as they are, I'll definitely be going with this to level my lock.

Ya it's in that second link I posted:

http://strats.fusion-guild.org/index.php/WarlockLevelingWotLK

Quoting from the page:

When you hit 71, this is the spec you want: http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?talent=IdxMbhbhoZ0gIzsg0iccMz
You're building towards this level 79 spec: http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?talent=IfxMbhrhomZ0gIzsg0iccMz

Ya, Gobo from Vendetta -- I mention him at the start of my movie Smiley.

we didnt need a healer to begin whith...

Gobo's speed-pull video did.  Obviously if you wanted to go slower you didn't have to.  My point was that we need one even less now.

@ Op, terrific video, amazing video and fantastic narration.

Please make more.

Thanks Smiley.  I've made a bunch of others, although without narration.  Here's a list of them: http://strats.fusion-guild.org/index.php/FusionVideos

I'll be narrating in WotLK though.

one question, whats the damage output like instance-wise?

Poor.  It's bad single-target.

But you could do instances as 0/0/0.  They're very very easy in non-heroic (deliberately, Blizzard has said.)

Not convinced.   Though, I appreciate the video and strategies.  Well done, bravo.

/salute

Here's my 70 build at start of Wrath:

http://wotlk.wowhead.com/?talent=IrxMbhMAoVVRzsx0xfz

71st point in haunt, then fill out affliction some, then back to demon.

Why no cookie cutter Fel guard/siphon life?

Because I will be leveling with another warlock, same build.  I will tab dot 234,617 times from 70 to 80, him doing the same.  With the improvements to Fel Armor, balancing Life Tap, I will never ever go oom.  We will duo 5-man quests.  Non stop, no drinking, eating.  My current pvp build, SL/SL, I can farm level 70 elementals without ever stopping.  We are farming food, Wizard oils, etc. for the journey from 70 to 80.  Remember, you will be fighting level 68 mobs to begin with.

Although we both appreciate your build (trust me, we discussed the exact thing) we just know that ours will allow us to DUO 5 man quests, among others.  Don't believe me?  I have nearly 15000 hp right now.  Self buffed.

Well thought out.  Vanilla isn't my flavor.  Nothing can touch me, I can tank them as fast as I can pull them.  Instances below 80 are a waste of time, as much as instances below 70 were in BC.

My agenda differs from most of yours.  I cannot raid due to my schedule, so all I am allowed in this game is pvp.  We will be full affliction in pvp as well.  We've crunched the numbers.  Yes, I do understand metamorphasis will also be the flavor of the day, but it simply will die to my spec.

Demonology warlocks die to me now, so very easily.  Granted they dont' have siphon life, which they will at 80.  However.  They have to be hitting me to do damage to me.  I can AE (insta fear) them, dot dot dot dot dot.  My dots will hit them so hard they won't know what's coming.  I mean, corruption alone looks to DOUBLE in power....and I don't mean at 80 in purples.  I mean at like 75.

Deficit - Runetotem

Again, I appreciate the video, well done.  Just not my Flavor.  Y'dig?

if that's the case just get a healer or two and tank the instance your self and have 1 healer keep u up and the other on your felguard and chain pull the whole place = FTW

Right.

I have no idea what I'm talking about Twistedsight or Menin.

Twistedsight, your gear is all vendor purples.  Wait, you have a helm from T5 content.  And Menin.  Why is my warlock/warlock 2v2 rated 60 points higher than you?

Flame my purples, build, 2v2 rating.  Go on.  I'll wait.

Done?

Continuing:

In Original posters 2nd post, she linked:

http://strats.fusion-guild.org/index.php/WarlockLevelingWotLK

I quote from there, about 2/3 of the way down, 3rd point, under Gear:

Outside of that, while more +dmg and haste is good, you don't have to be geared to the teeth -- just pull what you can handle and when (not if!) you die, laugh as you run back from the GY, knowing that an awful lot of mobs killed you.

(emphasis added)

The difference is.  I won't.

I won't die.

Quote me.

I will not die leveling from 70 to 80.

Ever.

That is why.

Now, that being said.  Her build is not, by any means, a distant second.  It is this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deVdEWCr4RQ

Thank you.

Original poster, I wish you the best, perhaps I'm wrong, who knows, let's just enjoy WotLK shall we?
