Cross-Realm Dungeon Feature Coming Soon

Today, we wanted to give you a heads up about a new feature currently in development that will allow players to invite Real ID friends of the same faction to a party regardless of the realm they play on, and then queue up for a 5-player regular or Heroic dungeon.

As this is a fairly complex service to develop, we don’t have a release date to share quite yet. It’s important to note that as with some of the other convenience- and connectivity-oriented features we offer, certain elements of the cross-realm Real ID party system will be premium-based, though only the player sending the invitations will need to have access to the premium service. We'll have more details to share with you as development progresses -- in the meantime, you may begin to see elements of the feature appear on the World of Warcraft PTR.

    Gotta take baby steps.
First 5 mans, then 10 man BGs, then raids.
It's only a matter of time.

They stated in the past that they didn't want cross realm raids, but who knows, anything is possible.

Feature might be worth it if cross realm raids and rated battlegrounds are included with the fee, but it would definitely depend on the fee and I would still be opposed to it on principle.

I am still in no way advocating this at all.

Diablo 3's development must be putting Blizz in the red. Glad I canceled my subscription. Have fun paying extra for features that you should already be getting at $15.00 a month.

    Guild Wars 2 anyone?

You aint forced to get this service. You wont loose anything not getting it. Some ppl have friends playing on different servers, and as it says its enoug that 1 person got the service.

Without paying for the service you wont be able to play with friends playing on diff realms. But you cant do that today either so whats the loss? If blizz never would have posted this you would never complained that it doesnt work.

Its like when they gave us the option to dump justice points for crafting items. The day before they posted, there where noone whining about that all the justice points and nothing to do with them. As soon as Blizz posted their plans ppl whined over the cost of the items... Sigh...
First off, people were complaining about not having anything to spend justice points on. Secondly, the whole "optional" and "would be no different than before they announced it" applies to practically every aspect of the game that has been introduced to improve it, from LFD to cross-realm battlegrounds.

This, honestly, is simply a bad business decision for them. Rather than going "Hey, we're eliminating one of the major drawbacks of a multiple realm/server system in MMO's to greatly improve our game!" they're going "Yeah, we can improve the game, but only if you pay us even more!". To simply implement this system would help them solidify their position as top dog and their strength in the market. Doing it this way may make them some more cash in the short run, but in the long run it will hurt them. Competitors will undoubtedly copy this system. Rift is already getting the LFD tool, how long till they implement something similar for free? A system like this allows people with friends over various servers to enjoy the game even more. What does this mean? More sales and renewed subscriptions, less lost subscriptions. If the competitor implements it better, they get those perks instead of Blizzard. Those gains also are also likely to be greater than whatever they'd get from charging it.

This isn't just bad for those of us who want to enjoy it and don't want to pay even more than our current subscription, it's bad for Blizzard because it leaves an obvious and easy to exploit opening for competitors to implement it in a much better way. Likely losing them money in the long run.

The problem is that the technology already exists, it is already there, they just aren't unlocking it. Charging money for this is about as ridiculous as a CPU manufacturer making 2.5ghz processor that is actually a 3ghz processor but can only be unlocked by buying a premium code.

Bad for business all around. This is like buying CD and paying extra for a digital copy that comes in the deluxe edition...

At the end of the day selling digital products successfully is about showing respect for your customers and providing value in your product. It doesnt take a genius to see what a rip off this is. Creating premium accounts will create a divide in the community, an echelon only attainable by those with money.

Dividing your player base again? Now their will be premium horde and premium alliance and it will be a matter of time before guilds start taking Premium only members.

As if the drop in subs was not enough. Bad, very bad management of the company. Watch the numbers decrease even more, you greedy Blizzard pigs.

I dont get this really. What for am I paying €12.99 a month? I it so that I have access to pay even more for 'premium services', something we should already get? Seriously where are they going with this? Will I need to get a premium account in the future so I can enter additional instances or bosses?

This is a great feature but I just dont get it why we have to keep paying money, this is just rediculous.

    Cross-Realm dungeon: Premium account

Cross-Realm arenas and bgs: Premium+ account

    Cross-Realm raids: Premium++ account

I hope no one will do this so we can stop it before its to late...

I mean...maybe this is a good thing. Maybe it's time to stop playing MMOs and get on with real life.

This is a great feature, but is it great enough to let people pay for it? no. In my opinion not.

They are quite expensive, they go for 10/12k on my backwater server (where the most advanced guild is like 280 worldwide, the 2nd one 700 or so, and there is only 3/4 guilds with 13/13hc) and it's guaranteed timed run (aka : they don't need you, you can stay dead the whole time ).

this feature is great and a lot of players were waiting it to be announced about the working in progress, but this premium option is really a bad thing, i hope they change idea about all this.

Unfortunately it wont be a major failure. If they impliment it as said they will be able to say "Hey we did it, you just didnt want it!", thats one "win" for them. Also out of 11.4m players there will be a large number that will see the increasing number of "extra" services being brought into the premium banner to make it worth paying.

I CAN see Activision's point of view though (yes of course this is Activision speaking - not Blizzard). WoW is around 6 years old now and the subscription fee (as far as I know) has never gone up. Most things go up with inflation but WoW has stayed the same. This is probably just their way of upping the subscription fee without it LOOKING like they are.

Will I pay for it? Probably not, dont really have friends on other realms that I have on Real ID. If Real ID was something you did for "friends" that you just wanted to be able to group with again, then yes; It would be cool to be able to group with them again. If they had made Real ID not actually reveal your real full name, and made an "Invisible" mode, then this would be worth more. I can however see myself eventually paying for premium services as I am sure they will add more and more of them. If they make it so that you can actually add to your friends list, people you have grouped with on other realms (without using RealID) then that might be something I would be willing to pay for.

What isn't optional in the game?

Say you like to PvP and complain about changes to your class or whatever. I don't PvP so I come in your thread and say "you aren't forced to PvP. if you don't like the changes, just don't PvP. After all, it's optional." This argument is ridiculous.

Playing with some friends across servers would be awesome. We had people leaving for other guilds on other realms, yet it would be a blast to play with them again. Realm transfer would mean leaving our guilds behind so that won't fly. Rolling another toon just to run some heroics together is ridiculous. So this is something I have been waiting for for a long time. Just because you find no use for it doesn't mean everyone else doesn't. But now that they're charging for it, hell no. So what, playing with my friends across realms somehow costs them more than playing with randoms?

This is crossing the line. Whereas before they have only charged for stuff that doesn't affect gameplay (sparkle ponies and kung fu pandas), this is a first that does. Because for me, being able to play with friends (and my gf, who happens to play on another realm, just the way I like it) is an important part of the gameplay. And while I wasn't able to play with them before either, should Blizz just stop developing new stuff for the game altogether except for the "premium" features? Like paying $15 a month isn't "premium" enough.
