A Future for Alcaz Island?
I was poking at the Patch 4.2 game files during the week end and it looks like Blizzard has a couple of plans for Alcaz Island, a new map "Scenario, Alcaz Island" seems to be in the game files.

Map.dbc

WorldSafeLocs.dbc

It looks like the zone will be instanced at some point, and available as a "Scenario". I couldn't find anything else on "scenario" in the game files but it's very unusual to have an additional information such as this one in the name of the Map. The only exception is "Transport:" maps and we could potentially be looking at a new type of instance here.

The "Expansion" field of the Map.dbc is set to "3" and seems to point to Cataclysm content but there's also the slight possibility that it's early data from the next expansion that got mislabeled.

Reminder - RaidComp up to date for Patch 4.2!
There wasn't any major change to raiding mechanics in 4.2, which means that RaidComp still works for Patch 4.2! Check it out if you're wondering how to optimize your raid composition!

Firelands Raid Trash - Who wants to be a millionaire?
This video from Mione shows why Blizzard had to hotfix the trash of the Firelands raid instance earlier this week.

    With one graveyard pretty unlikely.

Also the island was quite small. Well then, I'd tell it's more likely something quite new, because they could've done quests or events there using just masked mobs.
Seeing there Scenario, it could've been for machinima staff, but then it wouldn't make much sense to be left in client, and still could be easily shot in live island.

It might likely just be small instance, similar to what we've saw during shattering, as AI was never instanced, unlike places that the event took part in, it could be why.
I do not think they'd add brand new stuff in the middle of the expansion, however seeing how cataclysm was not complete success ...

Could just be part to an update of the Dustwallow quests just like how Silithus has a revamp in there.

That's the thing though, unless its a hidden change, they only nerfed the droprate on the unbound blazing elementals and spiderlings. So the thing shown in the video is still possible as far as I know, dunno for how long now though since its frontpage news =P

    Alcaz sounds like a cutscene

CoT Alcaz would be pretty lame. There's so much more they can better use. Maybe if the next expansion circles around Aszhara and the Naga going back there for a dungeon and some quests would make sense.

Actually the Dr Weavil quests happened there but they are removed since Cataclysm. And if you notice, Apoc11 didn't link the subzone you're talking about, he actually linked a 5-man dungeon added in Cataclysm, which is obviously unused.

They can change it but adding info about those files already existed before is nice. Many people didn't know that it already existed a 5-man dungeon called Alcaz Island in game files since (at least) 2 months ago, even tho they added a new "Scenario" one.

Doesn't work on my end either so it might still be bugged for IE. However I'd really suggest you to get pretty much any other browser.

Whatever Alcaz Island might be, a tip would be to not overestimate it yet . Who knows, it might just be some minor thing.

But I do hope it is something...new.

My prediction is that; Alcaz Island is what Boub said, something from the next expansion - Hopefully.

Scenario makes me think they haven't decided on it. Sounds like something they are thinking about and maybe planning to do if it works out. Like "here we have a scenario for a BG/5 man/raid (or whatever) what do you think about it?)
