Patch 4.3 - Deathwing, Transmogrifier, Void Storage
Tom Chilton (Kalgan) answered a couple of questions from Gamona.de on Patch 4.3, and we got a bunch of very interesting news out of it. Patch 4.3 will feature:

  • New Raid - The Deathwing raid, making it very likely to be the last patch before the next expansion.
  • 3 new 5-man instances - Including one in the Caverns of Time. (War of the Ancients was mentioned as a cataclysm instance a few years ago, but a lot of things have changed since then, who knows!)
  • The Transmogrifier NPC, which will let you change the appearance of any armor piece on you, while retaining the stats of your current gear. (= T12 stats, but with the Tier 2 look!)
  • Players won't be able to change the appearance of their armor into another armor type or class armor set, and you might have to own the armor before you can use it to swap the appearance of your existing armor.
  • The Void Storage is a new type of bank where players will be able to store their old armors in order to free up space in their regular bank.
  • The Abyssal Maw dungeon is gone for the moment, the storyline wasn't convincing enough/fitting.

We're at GamesCon in Cologne, Germany, and just did an interview with Tom Chilton, Lead Game Developer and Chris Robinson, Lead Art Director, in which they revealed a lot of details regarding patch 4.3 - and it seems that the announcement of it being huge was no joke:

Patch 4.3 will bring us the Deathwing raid instance! This means it's likely that we'll be able to fight the Aspect of Death in an epic encounter within this year. The raid that was originally expected for this patch, the "Abyssal Maw", was cut from the schedule because, as Chilton states, the setting and the story were not convincing enough.

Furthermore, 4.3 will also bring three entirely new 5-man instances - Chilton assured us that these won't contain any re-vamped content, but instead be brand new with unique design and models. Chilton also hinted at one of those being within the Caverns of Time, allowing players to experience another great moment of Warcraft Lore first-hand.

The interview also revealed the purpose of the "mystery ethereals" in Stormwind (and likely other cities, too). The "Transmogrifier" NPC will allow players to change the displayed model of equipment to that of another item while keeping the original attributes: Transmogrification is only possible within an armor class - Plate armor can only assume the looks of other Plate armor, for example.
  • Class restrictions apply to Transmogrification - Warriors cannot transmogrify their armor to look like Death Knight tier sets.
  • The developers are considering whether they should only allow using the models of equipment that has already been obtained

The "Void Storage" is a very large bank-esque storage which allows old equipment to be stored, freeing up inventory/bank slots for players. The developers aren't sure yet about the definition of "old equipment". The cost of the storage (and whether there even is one) is another thing that is not yet decided

Another possible feature that was hinted at is the possibility of "void stored" equipment being available to other characters on the account (NOTE: That part might be speculation from Gamona, not cross-server transfers actually confirmed. Hard to tell.)

Overall, it seems that we've got a huge patch ahead of us - a new raid, three brand new instances, Transmogrification and Void Storage.

As amazing as this patch seems, I'm a bit disappointed that it's going to be the (probably) final content patch. Unless they release some additional dungeons, a battleground, and some more dailies after we down Deathwing (entirely possible, but it wouldn't please raiders much). Overall, I'm really happy with this.

People have been asking for a Legacy armor bank for YEARS kid. Now all of a sudden they start putting these things in the game because they just figured out how to do it? Yeah right. It's because they've lost over a million paying monthly subscribers from their 5-6 million "monthly paying subscriber" userbase. They're in panic mode now, especially that they know the heaviest hitters are about to launch. They saw what RIFT, and unproven MMO franchise did to them because they kept ignoring their players, you better believe they're incredibly oworried about what's going to happen when SWTOR and GW2 launch. It's over for them, they ignored their playerbase for far too long. And, the most important playerbase. The one that enjoys the game but is not blindly in love with blizzard like yourself, and will move onto other games when they feel ignored. They know sheeple like yourself with stockholm syndrome will stick around regardless so they care even less about you, but when the free-willed are leaving in droves, they panic.

At least the sheeple will finally be happy. They'll get to enjoy the game with only the people who blindly love blizzard and never question a thing they do as wrong without hearing a single bad thing said about mommy blizzard anymore. And they'll get to enjoy it for a few months while the servers are still up and running before they pull the plug on them, or at least stop supporting the game with content. Remember, it's players like yourself that brought this game down that never questioned blizzard. It's your own fault your favorite game is dying off. It's all your fault.
All I seeing is a "It's cool to be on the hate bandwagon and troll forums" post here. Oh and a lot of ego aswell. If you actually bothered to get some facts straight, instead of claiming your own tinfoil hat nonsense to be the truth, you'd be quiet. Compare the customer support of Blizzard to any other company, say EA, Mythic or whoever is in charge of that odd thing called Age of Conan. There exists hundreds of examples of how terrible their customer service is, it's mainly just "O you have a problem, well I don't so bye bye now!", while Blizzard atleast tries to talk to the players. However, you are right that the players are to blame... The frenzied mob that wanted to hate Blizzard and see WoW crash since day one, but kept playing, just so they could see more stuff to fuel their rage, instead of realising how pathetic they were. Players, such as you, you are to blame. C wut I did thar?

Armor change should come now IMO, and maybe the other stuff later, it might help to keep players going, I know it will help me keep going at least.

Yeah, now he will look like everyone else in their fancy tier 2-3.. Sadly, people are right, Blizzard did this not for the sake of customers, but for the sake of competition. Not to mention I dont like idea of facing an opponent and not being able to tell his approx gear level.

This argument so tired. Do you actually believe it will have an impact on your PvP? Do you currently actively avoid players with arena gear on in BG's and just farm hk's on the PvE heroes?

If anything the changes will make it more obvious who the veterans are, they will be rocking their Grand Marshal's sets.

Blizzard needs to realize pulling some bullshit vanity move like letting people change their armor's appearance can't make up for their blatant laziness this expansion. SWTOR won't even be needed to put this game in the grave, not sure I'll even make it to 4.3.

Well IMHO it makes perfect sense to deal with Deathwing as soon as possible, he is destroying the world, delaying things doesnt make sense.

Quite sad to not see abyssal maw content in there. this 5 level expansion, and the next one are considered the abyssal maw set, so not sure how the 'lore doesnt fit'. most likely, it was a 'we dont have the resources to devote to it' thing.also, who cares about deathwing at this point? I have 6 level 85s, have cleared all the original tier raids and dungeons, and am 6/7 heroic 10 man firelands. i have seen deathwing twice,. Once was the quest in badlands, and once was when he burned up stonetalon while i was questing.deathwing is easily the worst villain this game has produced.also, im 100% positive we will be fighting another 'spirit of onyxia' or some incantation of it again. sigh for regurgitated garbage.

also, sorry if my above comment seemed trollish. i didnt mean it that way, im just incredibly frustrated with the state of the game, and am on the verge of quitting.

You know, the biggest beef I have with this is they REMOVED the dungeon 1/1.5 sets from the freaking game. I've yet to complete even one full set on any of my chars; I'd been in the process of doing so when they removed them. Bad move. If you have them, fine, if you don't, you're kinda SOL. If this void storage is what people are saying it is, they need to re-add the dungeon sets back in. Especially if the Transmog would allow us to use them! I don't care if they put them on different bosses, just put them back in the game!

Rofl, except ANYONE can get GM gear now? People with the TITLES are the vets; anyone can get the gear. It's more or less a rite of passage for any new char I level to hit BC with the full set (not that I use it in PvE...I laugh my butt off seeing people using GM gear in BC instances).

Too soon... OK, Cataclysm have a HUGE content pre-60, but the sensation they kind of left behind, and rushed the 80-85 content is solid. Cataclysm had the potential to reach 4.5 easily. SO why not? A near-sighted business evaluation, where they have to compare sizes of game sells (see what I have done here?), instead of the plain net-worth of the company? Still the Ebonsteel Belt Buckle gave expectations of gear nearing 500, and we are more then 100 ilvls away from that.
