World of Warcraft Magazine Canceled
Blizzard just sent a mail to all the subscribers of the World of Warcraft magazine. If you subscribed to the magazine, you can either ask for your money back or get a package of 6 companion pets in game, you might want to look into it now since you apparently only have 2 weeks to do so.

Here is the mail sent to subscribers, thanks to Ocnarian for his forum thread.

This has been a difficult decision to come to. Although both Blizzard Entertainment and Future US are very proud of the magazines that we have created together, we have each decided to focus our efforts on other areas.

We really appreciate your support for the magazine and would like to offer you a premium based on your remaining subscription term, or, if you prefer, a full refund of your remaining balance instead. To redeem your premium or request a refund, please visit www.worldofwarcraftthemagazine.com by September 30, 2011.

On the website, you'll need to input the following code to access your options:

Again, we would like to thank you for your continued support and hope you enjoy reading issue 5 as much as we enjoyed making it.

Wind Shear
It's still a part of the plan and you'll find out more information once we get into discussing patch 4.3 class balance. I'm not really able to reveal any plans as of yet. Without any context the information I could provide would only lead to a slew of follow-up questions, which will be answered better in our upcoming announcements. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Tier 13 and Future Armor Art
There is only one objective truth about every single armor set we've ever made -- some people love, and some people hate, each of 'em. The art is completely subjective and your tastes reflect your viewpoint.

That said, our design philosophy for epic sets is not changing at all with the introduction of Transmogrification. We're still going to keep designing what we think is fitting and awesome for each class and tier. We want people to want to wear all of the major armor sets we release. In the future you'll just have the option of deciding what set fits you best aesthetically and adventuring to obtain it, without worrying about the stats. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Paypal and Diablo III Auction House
We're pleased to announce that in most regions, PayPal will be our payment-service partner for the Diablo III auction house, allowing players who trade with real-world currency the ability to cash out the spoils of their battle-torn adventures via a PayPal account.

PayPal will also soon be added in several regions as a payment option on Battle.net, providing another convenient and secure payment method for digital purchases of Blizzard products and services.

We’ll share region-related specifics, as well as further details on everything mentioned above, in the near future. Stay tuned! (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

WoW magazine cancelation gives a clue about how wow is dying. They can't shove the same game for more than 7 years down our throats and expect people to don't get sick of it.

Looks like they dont have unlimited amounts of money to play with anymore to me. If someone can point out why this was canceled other than money issues though lemme know i will gladly listen to what you have to say.

5 issues before having to pull the plug? lol If there was ever any doubt WoW was in decline, it has disappeared.

Do you think that they're proud of having to cancel one of their products? Also, would you rather they not give you any sort of insight as to why they cancelled said product OR tell you about their future plans?

Printed magazines simply aren't worth the trouble anymore. It's not like this is the only instance of a magazine being canned recently, but Blizzard is the only one giving money back for it.

Those two things are entirely unrelated. The magazine was cancelled because it couldn't keep up with current content and by the time an issue was released, the information it had was slightly outdated.

Nope. PRINTED MEDIA is on the decline, this has been seen everywhere in the world. Video game magazines have been suffering and many have disappeared in the past few years. The WoW magazine was a bad business move, and I have no idea why they wasted their resources and time on something that was doomed from the start. You take video game magazines poor sales due to the internet, then make a magazine focused on ONE game.

This has nothing to do with WoW's decline; do you know nothing about how much magazines and newspapers are suffering right now or the economy exacerbating the effect? I mean, think about it: you go to MMO-Champion, and have access to sites like WoW.com and plenty of other WoW fansites. And then there's IGN.com, Escapist, Kotaku, and dozens of other gaming news websites for all-encompassing gaming news. Why would ANYONE buy a magazine devoted to just one game when there's already tons of fansites that provide the exact same information, even when NOT just devoted to one game?

I just clicked through my offer. It comes up right in the middle of the screen 'Accept Offer' for the pets. Big fonts. Big button to click. Right at the the bottom in a tiny font is 'no thanks I just want a refund' lol. Clicking this then tells you you have to write a physical letter and mail it to future publishing in the US with all your details in and it will take 8-10 weeks to get your refund. As I recall it took me about 5 minutes to purchase the subscription entirely via the interwebs. They really don't want to make it easy to get your money back XD. On the plus side they timed it well with me cancelling my wow sub last month.

    Hahah they're really unbelievable. Jeez.

Printed media has been in decline everywhere, though in all fairness, I've never seen the point of a WOW Magazine to begin with. Just play the game..? By the time the mag's on your doormat, everything in it is old news anyway.

On the vein of information about Paypal and Diablo 3, folks might want to read the updates on the paypal terms and fees. They've changed/plan to change by October, alot. Including extra fees between buyers and sellers from various countries and more. Worst case scenario could see the Blizzard fees and the paypal fees causing you to potentially lose money instead of making money on transactions(ie someone buys something from your for 30 bucks but the fees make you pay 35 so you have to cough up 5 bucks yourself... again in the worst case scenario).

Additionally this little snippet will apply to D3 is related to not being able to get seller protection:

Note: different countries' cookies will show you slightly different information (below is US English but with the cookies detecting Japan origin.) However digging you can find the same information on others:

9.5 Items/Transactions not Eligible for PayPal Seller Protection. The following are examples of items/ transactions not eligible for PayPal Seller Protection:
•Claims or Chargebacks for Significantly Not as Described.
•Items that you deliver in person, including at a point of sale.
Intangible items, including Digital Goods and services.
•Items that are not shipped to the recipient address. If you originally ship the item to the recipient address but the item is later redirected to a different address, you will not be eligible for PayPal Seller Protection. We therefore recommend not using a shipping service that is arranged by the buyer, so that you will be able to provide valid proof of shipping and delivery.
    • Items that you have shipped after PayPal has advised you not to ship. PayPal may advise you though several methods, including: •In your Transaction History (you can access it by logging into https://www.paypal.com.mx and viewing the status information in the Transaction History).
    •By email sent by PayPal.
•By a message to your PayPal Account.

I'm shocked the WoW mag lasted as long as it did. It was SO expensive and you didn't get very many issues. I've subscribed to some expensive magazines in my time but at least I'd get them every week or every month...not like every quarter or whatever. As far as the tier sets are concerned - overall I'm still unimpressed. I was pleased that the druid gear was once again a robe and didn't look like an old grandma robe (think T10). However I have to say that the mage and shaman sets have been...well...Blah? I don't know. The mage armor looks like a quilting bee project with a headlamp and the shaman looks ridiculous...then again that could just be because they decided to model it on an orc - and orcs are ridiculous. As silly as it was to use humans for class models that humans can't even be part of - at least it was a good neutal base to display armor. I wish Blizzard's armor skinning crew would LEARN HOW TO MAKE A FUCKING HELM WORTH DISPLAYING!!! Helms have to be the ultimate downfall of any gear set. Sure, there have been a few in the past that have been really nice (druid T8 was among the best ever); but overall they're usually ugly, awkward and the first thing you think when you put it on is "OMGMUSTHIDETHISPIECERIGHTNOW!" Honestly...LEARN TO HELM, guys.

Another person twisting things into they're own crazy version of reality, how exciting and clearly not seen everyday on mmo champion.

This, there's no point with the majority of printed media anymore with the internet giving out the same information.

One thing I think Blizzard should have done was make this magazine come in digital form and allow it to be purchased from places like Amazon,Itunes, etc.Get rid of the subscription fee and charge a flat fee for each download and make the magazine monthly.I never subscribed to the magazine but I probably would have if this would have been done.

I've wanted this for a very long time, something like the colossal smash change, thats what you suggest right? alot of people want it, if they could separate pvp and pve the game would be balanced. God knows i'd love it.

as for the blizzcon store, my general feel is "thats all they'll have?"

Because Enhancement is dead, and those are the skulls of your Ghost Wolves. Jk, actually thought they looked kinda cool.

Apparently, there are three WoW Magazine cancellation offers, depending on the value of your remaining subscription. I had a 2-year subscription and only received one issue. I was supposed to be getting another 7, so I got the "170$ offer".

    Here is the screenshot...

(sorry I had to write it like that, I can't post links yet)

I signed up for a year when it launched half hoping Blizz would eventually include some sort of exclusive in game item for subscribers (like a pet). But they never did. Maybe that would have helped the mag get subs? They quality of the mag was very good. The info inside it was so-so. Each issue only got a once over before going on the shelf. I've never gone back to look at an issue. I've also quit the game since Cata so when the renewal notices came out I never gave them a second look.

lol "$60 value" for 3 frikin pixel pets. No, the price of those pets are $60 the actual value worth of them is much much less (they make thousands of models like that included in 13 monthly fees every month)
