MMO-Champion - WoW Down to 10.3M Subscribers, PTR Build 14966, Class Balance Q&A, TCG Art
WoW Lost 800k Subscribers, down to 10.3M
Activision Blizzard latest earning call revealed that World of Warcraft lost another 800,000 subscribers last quarter, following the loss of 300k subscribers announced last quarter and 600k loss from the quarter before that. This brings us to 1.7 million subscribers lost in the last 3 quarters. Some things they made note of on the call:

  • Most of the subscriptions were lost in China.
  • There is normally an increase in subscriptions around December.
  • The decreased profit came from all of the games in development and no launches occurring.
  • There will be at least two major releases next year.

Patch 4.3 - PTR Build 14966
A new PTR build is being deployed on test realms!

Frostmage buff would be awesome if it weren't because there is no sinergy with its other stats... Frostbolt should be able to benefit from Mastery

Is the bullet saying "There will be at least two major releases next year." talking specifically about WoW only, since everything else in that post was WoW-related? Besides MoP what else could there be? Maybe a huge content patch?

My guess would be that they aren't totally confident that they can push HotS before christmas, so they said 2. D3 is pretty much done, and no way they pull an ICC again with Mists. Better to under promise and over deliver than vice versa.

Most subs were lost in china?
    Easy to explain.
Gold farmers Switching from Farming accounts to Hacking player accounts to steal the gold. no sense leaving the farming accounts open when they are a drain on resources and when you get so much more from hacking players.
I'm guessing quite a few of the lost accounts came from that.
then there's casuals leaving cause the game was hard in ways they didn't want it to be.... and long timers leaving cause they've been playing since vanilla or TBC and are just bored.

    The Sky.It is not falling.
Besides, when you look at Wow: Lame Panda Island and everything from this years blizzcon some things stand out to me.
1: You can usually tell when a Pay MMO is starting to lose steam when they start offering game play (beyond a demo) free. blizzard has done that with 1-20 being free, and TBC being Free for people who purchase the original game.
2: The "free D3 when you sub for a year of wow" screams to me that they want to try to transition there older, more mature players over to Diablo 3. this fits with the Theme of "appease the Younger Gamers" that Wow:PandaManLand seemed to be taking.
