WoW Turns 7! Anniversary Tabard now available in-game
World of Warcraft turns 7 this year (see World of Warcraft’s Seventh Anniversary! and to celebrate, players will be awarded a tabard and the WoW's 7th Anniversary Feat of Strength. The celebration lasts from November 20 to December 3, this is a visual tabard and it will not unequip your current tabard.

Update - I just realized that the "Celebration Package" item summoning the tabard requires the 7th anniversary event to be active, it most likely means that this item will expire. Might want to wait for a blue confirmation on that before you go through all your alts to get it.

You have to think of it in a business sense, if Wow had made it be a pet im pretty sure there would be some people resubbing, even if its just for a month. Thats $15.00 in their pockets and even if those people stay for only one month, its more then what people would pay for a pet at the blizzard store. But instead they give a temp rep/xp ugly tabard that only increases your rep/xp gain marginally I used to get 12-13 rep from a mob now I get 17-18 rep.. not a huge increase, something that may have been a reason why its only temporary, but 7% is pretty much useless. They will happily put a guardian cub for people to pay $10.00 for a one time use, not a BoA, even if people can sell it. But instead of thinking that they could give a free mini pet for people that may give them an icrease in subscribers and please the customers they give this. Call it greedy, call it whatever but if you think how much money they make from subscribers, tcg, and the blizzard store I am sure they could afford to keep the customers happy even if it is just one month.

I rechecked as I had assumed it was only a week. The start and end times seem to depend on server. On Azjol-Nerub it says 2AM but on Undermine it has 3AM start and end times. Yet on A-N my local time is 2 hours ahead of server time while local time in Undermine is the same as server time where I play from.

This is incredibly stupid. Not only is the reward temporary, but it's also glitchy as f- every time you mount up the tabard graphic disappears.

    Nice logic.

Last year we got nothing, this year we got something.. Therefore, people should be grateful. Seriously? Cmon.

It's exactly what we got: nothing. I tried it with the wintersabers trainers reputation quest and doesn't work. The item also disappears. I didn't expect anything, but compared to the other years, there is less love.

But you contemplated re-subbing for a stupid tabard.

I really need to stop reading other peoples' comments, makes my brain hurt.

    Wrong.

    Blizzard had massive prize giveaways.

    This is just a joke.

Funny that though, when you go to a Birthday party, you usually haven't been paying for that party for the last year.

We are paying customers, and in this tough economic climate when people are trying to justify expenditure, especially on something such as a game, then Blizzard should be pulling out ALL the stops to keep its client base. Even more so with 2 major IPs coming shortly to contend with. We have a RIGHT to expect great service, and a great product. This isn't like grocery shopping whereby you need it to survive, we are paying for this because we *want* to, and thus they should be kissing our proverbial asses and thankful we have chosen to spend our money on the game for this long, allowing it to get to its 7th birthday. Something all the defenders of this pile of crap seem to be forgetting.

    But instead, they give..this..

Giving an annual pet was one of the biggest mistakes Blizz made, because it caused two problems:

    1. A sense of entitlement, in which players expect a new, "better" pet each year.
    2. Since everyone gets the pet, no one uses it because it isn't "special" or "unique".

How many Baby Blizzard Bears or Mr Chilly pets do you see?

How many other dime-a-dozen pets do you see people using?

Other than the Onyxia whelpling - which blows a smoke-ring - I can't think of any Blizz-gave-one-to-everybody pets that I've seen people using after the event has passed.

Granted, some people do use the "collector's edition" and/or Blizzcon pets, but those aren't something everyone has, are they? And they are having the same problem of coming-up with a "killer" pet each year.
I hardly think this was one of their "biggest mistakes". That's over exaggerating slightly. No one feels entitled. And I don't think they ever felt pressured to make "better" pets. There are no "better" pets, only different ones. No one likes re-skins.

I don't know why they stopped giving pets for the anniversary events but if I were to take a completely unfounded guess it would be because there is no profit in it.

P.S. I use Baby Blizzard Bear ALL the time, and the penguin on my gnome characters even though I have many more less used/rare ones. They're no more or less used than any other pets as far as I've seen.

    goddamn exactly.

Everyone complaining is still going to fork over 16 bucks a month regardless.

The biggest issue I can see is just how badly Blizzard misjudge this stuff.

EVERY year, there is something about the anniversary, its pretty obvious the majority of the player-base likes it. Last year, they had a lot of moaning about no gift or pet, and said they took it on board etc. This year, they have done far less than people would have expected.
Now, there is only 3 possible reasons for this-

    1) They are so busy working on new product, they simply didn't have time.
    2) They have massively misjudged the community in terms of what they want (this is VERY bad when your in service industry)
    3) They are so wrapped up in their own hubris, or just don't give a toss anymore. (VERY bad as well.)

Now, I am hoping it is one, but I am sadly beginning to think it is either 2, or 3. There is no point saying this doesn't matter, and its only a game etc. This is a prime example of how badly Blizzard misjudges things and get's it wrong so fundamentally from my perspective.

I'd nominate this for this cheapest and shittiest content recycling they have ever pulled.

    I mean, really?

They don't even have an intern that could have put in 5 minutes to recolor this or an hour to bang out a new design?

Oh wow I just realized this tabard is the one the PVP honor contest winners received back in 2005. and yeah I do agree it would have been nice to get a pet, but new pets only go to the pet store now. Don't you guys realize that?

But it's a "free" dry, old cheeseburger, so it's ok! (so goes the fanboy logic)

I'd rather Blizzard have not bothered. Oh well, it couldn't have taken 1 programmer more than a few minutes to cobble together, so it's not like Blizz wasted much time on it. You'd think Blizzard would have been more fired up about WoW's 7th Anniversary, but I guess working on an MMO for 7 years has just burned them out.
