Statistics: Dragon Soul and Firelands
Patch 4.2 brought us Firelands over six months ago, and in that time roughly 12% of our sample of level 85 characters completed Normal difficulty Firelands. Patch 4.3 was released just one and a half months ago, during the holiday, and already 30% of the sample has killed Deathwing in any difficulty while only 4% has killed Deathwing on Normal or Heroic.

Keep in mind this sample includes many alt characters and many players have multiple characters, so there is no way to know for sure if more people are raiding. However, we do know that more characters are raiding now than raided during Firelands.

This time around, the overall sample is around 6 million characters and the active character sample is around 4.4 million. If you are interested in these type of statistics or want to see other information, let us know in the comments!

First we take a look at the overall population, including every level 85 character that has been active since Patch 4.3 went live. Only 4% of the population managed to do Normal difficulty Dragon Soul so far, and 34% completed it on LFR or higher difficulty.

Next we look at how quickly people earned the Normal difficulty Deathwing achievement. The holiday caused a slight slowdown in the past few weeks, but people started earning it constantly on the first week.

Next we look at how quickly people earned the Raid Finder or greater difficulty Deathwing achievement. You can see the weekly growth starts out high and is now rapidly decreasing, as everyone and their alts are have easily completed the raid.

Next we look at how quickly people earned the Normal difficulty Firelands completion achievement. You can see where the Hotfix took effect and greatly increased the amount of kills, which are now leveling off as players don't have a reason to go back.

Now we narrow our sample to just characters who have killed Deathwing on Raid Finder or greater difficulty. For this sample, 13% of characters have done it on Normal or Heroic difficulty, and 87% of characters did it on Raid Finder difficulty.

Yes. I can confirm that we are fixing that issue in 4.3.2.

You will see the note on it in the next update to the 4.3.2 PTR patch notes. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

WoW No Longer Compatible with Windows 2000
In preparation for the upcoming release of Mists of Pandaria, updates to World of Warcraft will no longer support Microsoft Windows 2000. Define non active? As far as all the graphs go, anyone that hasn't logged in since 4.3 was removed.

That's some shockingly low numbers on those charts.

for the poll, where's the option - I spent to much time on my toons to just throw away and start a new game?

or its possible that its not just your cup of tea? or its not a complete wow-clone? or that the combat system is different than wow's?

"The community/friends/guild" in one option is a bad idea, believe me...I can see why ppl still wants to play with their friends/guildies, but the community has been lately so rude (not all ofc, but LFR even enlarge the problem), that I barely force myself to play this game JUST because of them :/ Other then that - love it

Apparently a big number of players don't care about the difficulty they complete the game on, which is why we see the drop in people doing normals. But Kudos to Blizz for getting alot more people to see the content regardless of it being easy mode.

Being a raider, not the most serious but I've killed a couple heroics, I can say that in my circle of friends LFR might decrease the percentage of characters that complete the normal mode raid. All of my 85s in my main's guild killed Ragnaros repeatedly, because he had stuff they needed. My hunter for example, still would like the bow and trinket from Rag, even though he has t13 4pc and 380 ilvl gear and no real need for any better gear.

When the raid was all there was, it was worth putting together alt runs, or joining pugs, for the 378 gear, and it was a chance to practice my various characters' gameplay.

Now I don't need to raid on them. I have LFR.

And yes, I'm calling LFR something other than raiding. Not that there's anything wrong with it as such, but LFR, for many reasons, doesn't qualify as 'raiding' to my mind. It's a raiding simulator that awards gear.

I have a Mage on another realm that I haven't really played much this expansion, but got up to 380 ilvl in a few hours so I could experience the new and improved Fire before it inevitably got nerfed back to earth. That Mage doesn't have a raid spot, I don't really care to attempt to maintain a raiding schedule or even look for PuGs, but give me the chance to get easy t13 4pc and top some meters in a raidfinder group and I'll take it. LFR is (usually) fun, but it's not raiding any more than Rebecca Black is a pop singer.

They should have posted this poll prior to SWTOR. Also, the poll is epic fail.

"Which aspect(s) of World of Warcraft keep(s) you playing?"

How about NOT assuming that everyone is still playing and include a x) I don't play WoW anymore option. I think people would rather see the % of those who stuck around moreso than why.

Thanks for that. Can you update it now that it's post-SWToR? It will help determine how many fit into the category of "I quit because I found a better game."

Uhm,Is anyone else impressed about the low number of chars from the sample-size that completed the LFR raid?I alone have 3 alts that run weekly trough LFR, some of my guildies have more. It just strikes me very odd. I've never knew something - is this sample size only from US or it's combined US/EU? Think US players are really composed of a completely different demographic.
  1. Deleo's Avatar
Something is bothering me. It literally takes no effort to get into LFR and complete the raid in less than 2 hours yet we still see only 1M people doing it. It kinda contradicts with 10M active players. Based on the pole at least 2-3 million players should have completed LFR. Don't forget the poll includes alts as well so the actual number is not 1M.
  1. Salech's Avatar
I am not ever gonna do LFR and i think some other people feel the same way, if i am to get gear that easy, i could just as well play hello kitty. However, normal and heroic are still fun.

I guess the LFR is to hard for the average WoW player since so few have managed to beat it.

HERE BLIZZ, FOR THE POLL since there was no option for this.."Appearances. I'm too into playing dress up like my toons are Barbies D: If there is no appealing hair, skins, faces, animations, or voices in a game, I don't bother playing it."

Or they have seen LFR and called it quits or didn't wanted to bother with finding a guild or running normal/hardmode anymore.

If they want to release numbers like these then they should give all numbers not just the numbers that make their new feature look good.
