WoW Stable at 10.2 Million Subscribers
Activision Blizzard's press release states that World of Warcraft is still at 10.2 million subscribers as of 3/31/12. This is the same amount of subscribers from Q4 2011. A few other interesting points:

  • Battle.Net has 10 million users.
  • 1.2 million people bought the Annual Pass.
  • 2 million people played the Diablo 3 open beta.
  • Pre-orders for Diablo 3 have set a new record for Blizzard. This number includes units pre-ordered as part of the Annual Pass promotion, as well as retail and digital pre-orders.
  • Blizzard renewed their license with NetEase for the distribution of World of Warcraft in mainland China, and it will continue for an additional three years following the expiration of the current license agreement.

If they want to offer incentives, it's their choice. Subs are subs.

You read that wrong. A F2P game (Blizzard DOTA) AND a new MMO (Titan).

Blizzard Dota is F2P, not Titan.

Losing hope in humanity because they enjoy a game. Please clarify for us, how is it to live with a 2 digit IQ?

Two unnamed games, one is "Titan", curious about the other...
I was a tad surprised that it didnt drop a bit given that "content consumption" was an issue. With the new recruit a friend program that could have helped leveled the subscription numbers. The leveling off potentially shows that there are not much players who seem to want to come back to the current expansion(Cata) even with its LFR system and other aspect of the game getting easier. With MoP and its focus on bringing more things to do from solo to group based players instead of the streamlined and gutted experience we got in Cata, I hope to see an increase in returning players. The growing toxicity of the community however is something I would like to go down.

I personally want the subscriber base to fall, not through some hatred of the game, but to diversify the market more. It's a fair assumption that people who leave the game would be likely to latch on to other MMO's for the most part, I personally just want to see the Monopoly in the industry taken down a level to promote more innovation.
You can't bring down monopoly by copying a success of another company, like BW did. The best way to "break monopoly" and "diversify the market" is to create high quality product targeted at specific audience, instead of mindlessly ripping off WoW.

How about you stop bashing people for enjoying a game you don't like, and go have some fun. You are wasting your time being derogatory towards other people online.

If WoW is failing at 10 million then every single other MMO of all time hasn't even lived in the first place.
I love you :'). And dat sig.

I don't feel tricked at all.

Actually I feel like I saved loads of money because not only did I do what I was going to do anyways, but I got loads of free stuff out of it.

Quit trying to label people you don't know shit about.

Blizz has the AP and they had the recent scroll of ressurection that many people have used to resub old acounts for the mount. I'm sure that the scroll brought the count up. Also, they are adding a new RAF mount to the game soon, so people will once again be resubbing old accounts and what not to bring up the count.

Nothing unfair about it. Blizz offered a very good promotion that was completely optional and even still when people had buyers remorse let many out of that agreement.

Let's come back when the 15 mil are announced. What Haters don't understand is Pandas are wildly popular, combine that with Pokemon, and you have a wave of new subs.

WOW has sold over 30 million copies. That means there are 20 million people out there that played WOW and quit. It is not hard to see 5 million of those returning for MOP

haters gonna hate thats what haters do, Annual pass doesnt change a thing about sub numbers it is just offering bonus and perks to those of us that would been subbing regardless it is a perk for the most loyal of customers they got. That is probably why the attempts to discredit the numbers. Not to name any names of any other game but if they had showed no decline they would be cheering and saying it is rebounding.

a very good report for sure for blizzard. Future is looking promising. Still some minor issues that needs tweaking mostly involving a handful of servers that have seen an disproportionally big impact of the sub losses. While other servers orgrimmar and stormwind is as packed at night as they have ever been.

So your answer to WOW not losing subs is to ridicule the intelligence of the 10.2mill players?

I guess it's all about perception, some people just choose to be a hater.

What exactly have I been handed on a plate?

People are blind to the clever marketing ploys they are using to keep sub numbers higher than active players actually represent. The free level 80 via scroll of res was placed very convienently in terms of dates to ensure that people would be subbed for the quarter also.
