MMO-Champion - WoW Loses 1.1 Million Subscibers, Down to 9.1 Million
Don't miss Mists of Pandaria Beta - Build 15929 from earlier today!

WoW Loses 1.1M Subscribers, Down to 9.1M
Activision Blizzard latest earning call revealed that World of Warcraft lost another 1,100,000 subscribers last quarter, bringing us down to 9.1 million players. Some things they made note of on the call are below.

Notes
  • 16.9 million Battle.net users logged in last month, up from 10 million just 3 months ago.
  • 10 million D3 copies sold, with 1.2 million of those from the Annual Pass. It was the best-selling PC game for the first six months of 2012.
  • Most of the WoW Subscription losses were from the East.
  • Losses are from people playing Diablo 3 and leaving for other things to do until the new expansion.
  • Mists of Pandaria will utilize TV and online ads leading up to the launch.
  • The China launch Mists of Pandaria will launch as soon as possible, not likely in Q3.
  • 4.7 million people watched the event at MLG for Heart of the Swarm.

Contributing factors to the lower subscribers were likely the launch of Diablo III in the quarter, which provided consumers with an alternative gaming experience to World of Warcraft (although Diablo III has not yet launched in China), as well as the lack of new content patches in all geographies resulting in less overall game play. Looking forward, Blizzard Entertainment expects to release World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria™ on September 25, 2012, which will deliver new game content in all regions that is expected to further appeal to the gaming community (with availability in mainland China to be announced at a later date).

Exactly, if having only one viable raid tier during each content patch wasn't bad enough, here comes LFR that makes people blow through it even faster.

It was fun doing trying Void Reaver/Lurker runs mixed in while still farming gear from Kara, Gruul and Mag.

Thanks to the disaster that is MoP, I won't be renewing. I really feel WoW has jumped the shark with this expac. I'll wait and see if the next one brings the game back on track with something focused on the Titans or Burning Legion homeworlds.

2: Guild Ranks should have never had a cap to begin with. I wouldn't mind grinding quests mindlessly to power level the guild.

3: I LOOOVE linear questing. I fucking hate having to go from one side of a zone to the complete opposite then back again, just for quests. Having them right in front of my face while continuing a seemingly never ending path made leveling by far the most enjoyable.

4: I love the Supremacy of Garrosh, he's mein Furor.

5: The old world revamp I thought was complete bullshit, I wanted more and more top level content. Not some new shit for my alts. I still feel like I paid for an expansion that was directed to bring in new players, fucking over the vets.
1 is a lie. UNless you were really bad, which most of the players are you did no need CC for every pack in every heroic. Maybe if blizz would not cave to the bads they could learn to play. Instead we get one wipe, ONE and people freak out.

2.Agree, while you do get thigns like mass res and hgwt its not game breaking in anyway so why the cap.

    3. I liked the new questing in cata so to each his own.

    4. Again your opinion. Also I really question how many people even pay attention ot things like this.

    5. Sort of agree. I think blizz should and better do a much better job with content this XP. I do agree though that they redid the whole world and I really like it.

What you said is 60 servers including ALL languages, you forgot 100s servers that are medium, high and full populated. Good job

Around 160 medium servers and around 40 high.... and guess what, all arrows are going up.

Why is MoP a disaster? Don't give me that crap just because it has pandas in it. The raids look good, the new continent is very pretty, leveling is leveling there is a ton of stuff to do at 90, a ton of new mounts, new pets, new BGs that aren't just rehashed crap, new class, challenege modes, scenarios are fun little side things to do. I think MoP is looking pretty good so far.

It's the same rehashed garbage with a new skin. There is literally nothing to keep anyone interested past the first couple of months.

Sorry, but that is the truth.

I think someone already beat me to it, but the talent redesign isn't exciting in the least. In addition, the content is laughable. Yes, this is a personal opinion of mine and everyone is entitled to their own opinion but frankly, there are plenty of other story arcs to explore and places to go that are related to existing lore that I see no reason to introduce content and a new race that feels completely out of place. I could not care any less about a continent of Pandas, and the introduction given at the last Blizzcon including statements such as "the enemy this time is war itself!" are just not at all anything I am excited about.

I'm sure most players might be picking up the expansion, but I am going to vote with my wallet on this one and hope that if enough people do the same, Blizzard will get the message.

Honey, you might see something wrong with the current state of the game but htat does not mean I do. I could care less about raiding or about PvP (as far as I can see this is where much of the 'issues' seem to be), so for me there is nothing wrong. I can do what I want in the game and I enjoy doing what I do. As soon as that stops I will stop playing (and paying) for this game.

So like I said, different people, different points of view. You might think your view is the 'right one', but the same goes for someone else. And people having different views is fine and is no reason to 'lol' at or think you are 'better' someone else.

If you enjoy playing, then by al means keep on playing. If you do not, then do not play, but don't go berating other people that they still do play.

Nope - it's your oppinion. Saying there is nothing new is wrong, since MoP actually does add plenty of brand new stuff - like the pet battles, like them or not, it's a brand new feature.

You could say that about any of the expansions... How was BC any different from Vanilla really aside from arena and I guess flying mounts?

I'm not trying to pick a fight but what about the content to you is laughable? I'm genuinely curious as to what you find so horrible about it.
