Diablo 3's next expansion is named "Reaper of Souls"?
Well we can definitely say the past few hours have been interesting. After uncovering the trademarking of The Dark Below yesterday, it looks like the teaser for the next Diablo 3 expansion just went live.

According to the official website "Reaper of Souls" is a trademark and linked to Diablo 3, with Gamescom coming up next week it wouldn't be surprising to see the expansion for Diablo 3 announced there.

More importantly, it rules out The Dark Below as the next Diablo 3 expansion and makes things a lot more interesting suddenly.

Anyone got the "Lurker below" memories from reading that title? No? Ok.

I will be cautiously excited for the Diablo 3 expansion. I got burned way, waaaay too much with Diablo 3 to just start trusting Blizzard again with their "sound gameplay decisions". (snort) But in all seriousness, Lord of Destruction did improve the original game a ton (apart from the damned recipes and gem stones... yeah, sorry, I hate crafting made out shit) so this might be a really good thing. I for one, am hoping for an improvement in these areas:

    1. Story - make a Diablo story that stays true to the original material. They should get rid of boring ass, cliche type of narrative and obvious plot twists and simply stick with what made the previous games great - originality and simplicity over convoluted bullshit. Make us care about the world again and its characters. Don't introduce new ones that will play a minor roll no one will ever care about.

    2. Locations - for the love of God and all that's holy, we need a jungle! Bloody Kurast and Flyer Jungle! More diversity with darker theme, not something out of a coloring book. Something sinister and not so flashy. We know the engine can light shit up for us, so try the opposite effect - make everything dark and ominous again. Oh, and the ability to switch between Acts is really, and I do mean really missing at this point. MAKE IT HAPPEN.

    3. AH - removal. Make it optional but out of the game. Seriously, the shit is broken. The game will only benefit from it. Oh, and the excuse "the game's built around it" just doesn't, it doesn't work anymore (see console versions of Diablo 3).

    4. Better class / weapon optimizations - we need to see this happen. Seriously, I am sick and freaking tired of my WW barb, <insert cookie cutter build mandatory for any class in D3 ever> I want to be able to switch and experiment with new weapons, new types of items that drastically change my playstyle depending on their stats. Oh, and most importantly - BRING, BACK, THE DAMNED, ELEMENTAL DAMAGE! Seems in D3, frost, fire, poison, lightning or the other dmg boosts rarely affect anything!

    5. More varied monster types / more spells for them to cast - yeah, this is really a no-brainer. Challenge comes not from the monsters HP / Attack modifier but from the "dance" that is hit, use spell, dodge, switch, avoid missile... instead of just flail at the damned thing until it falls flat. Diablo 2 had more variety than this. Sheesh.

    That's about it I guess.

    WTF?!?!?!
They will fix whatever they think needs fixing in the expansion, just as they did in D2:LOD. And just as they did in SC1.

Sure, but it is the only thing bringing in a steady supply of revenue. And frankly, removing the RMAH won't solve anything, as you will have dozens of third party sites popping up instead. People will be scammed, etc... as usual.

What I think they'll do is work more on the loot becoming more personal to obtain, so that you don't have to go to the RMAH.

Yeah, why make an expansion of a game that sold over 12M copies... Hmmmm I wonder.

Blizzard first release is ALWAYS a half-problem. D2 classic was shit and it took LOD and 10 patches to fix it. SC1 was average at best and it took Broodwar and 8 patches to get things right. WoW vanilla was a bugged imbalanced garbage and it took several (let's not argue about how many ) expansions to get things right. D3 is no exception.

D3 already has much more stuff to watch after: desecrate, arcane rays, molten etc... D2 had nothing like that. The biggest "problem" was IM and the stuff casted by succubi, and it came nowhere near D3. Any given D3 boss is a lot more complex than D2 boss (see Belial vs Duriel for instance).

Sure, if you overgear everything you can stand in stuff in D3, but the problem is the overgearing, not the mob mechanics.

Though I liked D3 it had a lot of issues but blizzard really needs to make this expansion a total game changer to bring back t he fans and they should know this. But I hate how much crap D3 got cause most people don't even remember how shity D2 was. D2 didn't hit its prime tell the Patch before Lord of Destruction and Lord of Destruction totally made D2 the amazing game everyone remembers it as but of course players forget the bad sides of the game. I have full confidence that Blizzasrd will redeem a lot of there mistake with D3 with there 2.0 Patch and D3 expansion

The story line is what is going to eventually link the world of Diablo with WoW... the two are already linked in way, because the demons in wow also appear in diablo. Plus people like story, it makes it more interesting. Without a story you're just running around killing shit, but I'm sorry I like having a reason why I'm running around killing shit.

Now what I think this means is this...

When Sanctuary was discovered by the Angiris Council, he was the first one to raise a voice against its existence. He regarded humans as abominations polluted by the presence of Demon blood in their veins. He tried his best to have the hidden world destroyed but was opposed by his counterpart Auriel, eventually resulting in a Council vote to decide Sanctuary's fate. The vote went against his favor when Tyrael shockingly voted for humanity, but Imperius still harbors a deep grudge against the "demon-spawn" humans.

Imperius HATES the humans, and now that Malthael is gone, he now can try to get rid of the humans especially after what they did to The Heavens in the end of the game. I think that you'll end up saving Malthael, and Imperius will get shunned for trying to kill off the humans, and will become the Reaper of Souls or something else. I believe this because,

"...he himself can summon a sword of fire at will, as he did when Mephisto confronted the Council, and can also thrust back humans with the force of his will, as he did with Mendeln, as well as summon and forcibly render other Angels, such as Inarius, silent with a gesture. These descriptions are mentioned in the book The Veiled Prophet from The Sin War series."

EDIT: BTW if you have ever done Inferno on MP10, if you even try to flail at anything you'll fall flat on YOUR face and die... 'Nough said...

I wonder if when they say "D3 sold over 12 million copies" if the free copy that you got for annual subbing that go around is counted in that. I would be interested in seeing just how many copies were free from that. What im not interested in is ever playing another blizzard game again... ever... well maybe starcraft it has huge potential to be even bigger and i love that fantasy universe more so than wow. D3 tho... lol. In The Burning Crusade there was the "LOLBM" saying making fun of hunters who chose BM spec... everytime i hear something about d3....

Ahaha that's hilarious... The Diablo story was never even close to original or great. It was always a cliché and over the top obvious, it's like the cartoon version of The Divine Comedy with a dash from Faust.
