Blizzard Trademarks "Warlords of Draenor" - WoW Expansion
Blizzard just trademarked "Warlords of Draenor" in New Zealand. It was then registered in Australia shortly after.

  • Computer game software, computer game discs, downloadable computer game software, computer game software downloadable from a global computer network, interactive multimedia computer game program; downloadable electronic game software for use on portable electronic devices such as mobile and cellular phones, laptops, handheld computers, and tablet PCs.
  • Entertainment services, namely, providing on-line computer games; providing on-line non-downloadable computer games that may be accessed via a global computer network; providing online news and information in the field of computer games.

It's also worth mentioning that warlordsofdraenor.com was registered a month ago.

I do realize that we had a lot of fun times with trademarks in the past (*cough* Dark Below *cough*) but let's just say that on a personal level I'm pretty confident about this one. I'll leave the speculation up to you guys until Blizzcon.

He wasn't corrupted, period. He was just using dark power. Blizzard has already went over this time and time again. It is you who keep refusing to see the reality of it. Why do you think people compare him to Cho'gall? Sure Cho'gall was insane but he was of his own mind and did things on his own.

I can see how this expansion will start, Garrosh is alive.... he will start all this mess... Funny for me people can't see this coming.

Edit: But still so sad, i wanted corgi as the Bad guy for this next expansion.

    2. Warlords can be many people, if it truly is set in the past, that would mean Orcish warlords (and I think this is kind of unlikely). If it is present day, it could be anything from the left over orcish clans (including the warsong clan) to demons that have been arriving during the time of us dealing with events on Azeroth.

As for the name of the expansion, do you honestly believe "the burning crusade" was any better a title? Sounds more like a genital rash. Warlords of Draenor would be a fine expansion. Also, to all the people trying to convince themselves that the title doesn't necessarily mean it will take place ON Draenor, how is Warlords OF Draenor any different than Mists OF Pandaria.

I don't think time travel as an overall theme of the expansion is likely (it is possible, so I won't completely discount it), but it would be more likely that it is set in post-cata/mop outland or some other surviving chunk of the planet.

We all can dislike ideas, but to say that they are false is to be ignorant as we haven't gotten confirmation from the horses mouth.
Did I ever say they were false? I simply said I do not see them being likely r that I, and a fair amount of other people, dislike them. Try to read, love.

    1. I've already addressed that in my original post. Please do not quote my post out of context, only so you can parrot ideas I've mentioned and attempt to use that as an argument. Or try and read the whole post before responding.
    2. Fair point, there could be a wide array of races that live on original Draenor and managed to survive after it's destruction. For demons, I do not see it being very likely, there is pretty much nothing on Draenor for the Legion, it doesn't make much sense as to why they'd go back there. We have pushed Kil'jaeden back down the Sunwell and that was done on Azeroth, not Outland.
A time travel expansion is a horrible idea. You thought people complaining about the rehash and lack of novelty in Cataclysm was bad? Oh boy, then I'd hate to see that hurricane of whine. Let's be honest here, people will just see it as an excuse to rehash old content from the past, which isn't bad, mind you. If we go about it via the Caverns of Time combobulation they've used in the past, the entire expansion will feel like it lacks a sense of direction (Like Cataclysm), the only possible way it could work if we enter old Draenor via one portal, like we had the Dark Portal.

For present day scenarios, I could see the following happening:
Blizzard have hinted several times of bringing Illidan back, at past Blizzcons they've posed the question to the audience whether they should. Either as a rehashed villain (which will meet a lot of complaints) or as a redeemed hero.
We have dealt with his demonic ragtag group of rebels, so either "warlords" could refer to him as a villain building up his army again or as an ally helping us fight these "Warlords".

As I mentioned previously, Outland is of little interest to the Legion as of now (at least, from my perspective). They could be using it as a forward outpost and gather more of it's local races to their cause. There are still various ogre clans on Outland, and if they introduce another drifting continent in the Twisting Nether which was part of Draenor, they have a bit more creativity to play with.

We also have the whole storyline of Wrathion to deal with, preparing Azeroth for the coming invasion of the Legion. Now remember, his father, Deathwing briefly relocated to Draenor and built himself a lovely little Lair there off the Skeletal Coast (which was where Shadowmoon Valley is at now. The Netherwing dragonflight is directly descended from the Black one after the destruction of Draenor, they were infused with raw Nether energies. There might however be a chance that a stash of Black Dragon eggs stashed away in his lair were untouched and Wrathion could perhaps look towards that to rebuild his Dragonflight and perhaps bring the Netherwing under his wing.

That's about it for possible story ideas I could have relating to the idea of revisting current day Draenor (post TBC) for new nuggets to exploit. If they go about it this way, they also have an excuse to revamp the 60-70 content, as that is significantly shorter than the 1-60 stuff. Alternatively, they could have it span over a longer level range to ensure that people get to experience that content with the speed at which people level these days. Perhaps have it go from 60-80/85, which is a large time span, but it would also increase the choices in the leveling path of the player AND, take away the focus on the discontinued timeline that we have now (post Cata Azeroth -> Old Outland -> Old Northrend -> Post Cataclysm Azeroth -> Pandaland) and instead go like: Post Cata Azeroth -> new Outland (+ Optional Old Northrend and Cata) -> Pandaria -> New Draenor Continent.
Perhaps have the revamped Outland campaign set shortly after the discovery of Pandaria, but before the final conclusion to avoid any discontinuation in the timeline and handle Northrend as a phased going back in time period and actively explain this in the quest dialogue.
Then you have the new post 90 content which could combine the ideas I've drafted above. If it is a time travel expansion, I'll probably quit.

That is, if this is indeed the next Expansion. While I like my ideas, I'd rather deal with the Dark Below. And instead have Warlords of Draenor be more of a standalone title next to WoW to elaborate more on the story that happened on Draenor before the landing of the Draenei up until the opening of the Dark Portal.
But that's just my opinion and ideas on how this could play out.

As to you comment that it could be "Warlords hailing from Draenor", unlikely. Let's be honest here, an Expansion usually entails a new set of zones to explore, and what new zones does "Warlords hailing from Draenor" bring us? Oh wait, no, those Warlords are coming to us or are no longer there on Draenor. If WoD is the expansion, there is a bloody heavy implication we go to Draenor, wouldn't you say?
Also, the "OF Draenor" would either imply that these warlords are native to Draenor or have conquered Draenor. The last is a possiblity, but there isn't much to conquer there as we know it now, eh?
And yes, Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King and Cataclysm are far better names for a game title set in the Warcraft universe. Why? Because those names have an aura of animosity surrounding them and heralds a new impending threat we have to deal with. While Warlords of Draenor also heralds that "new threat", it doesn't feel like it plays up to the same level of the previous titles. As mentioned previously, it sounds more like a name for a group of scavengers.
While Mists of Pandaria doesn't have that feeling of threat or animosity, it does invoke a sense of mystery and new things to explore. While I don't have a problem with the whole Warlords of Draenor title, or the ideas I, and other people, have put forward ... I'd still prefer the Dark Below. The idea of going back and have a expansion dedicated to the Naga, Aszhara, N'zoth and the Emerald Dream seems far more attractive to me personally, than revisiting Outlands.
That's why I hope the Dark Below is the next Expansion and Warlords of Draenor is either an attempt to throw people off, or a standalone title (which I'd be down for, definitely) or related to Hearthstone.

sorry for my bad english. Here are my predictions.

Time Travel meets Burning Legion. Illidans Redemption.

The Burning Legion starts a full scale attack from space. It's so gigantic and destructive that fighting back in the present is no option. But when all hope seems to be lost wie get a blast from the past. The Bronze Dragons want to fix this timeline and allow us to go back in time to the moment we lost Alleria and Turalyon on Draenor. Turns out they found a portal to Argus and help us to activate it. With the informations from the future we contact Illidan and convince him to help us to save Azeroth. The bad guy turns into an ally that knows how to beat demons with their own weapons. Everyone willing to take the risk can now learn the demonic secrets of Illidan, turning the recruit into a Demon Hunter. This is also the new class and they will start at level 69. The Black Tempel will be the new major city for this expansion and the Burning Crusade zone will get a revamp but only to level from 90-95. 96-100 is on Argus or and undiscovered part of the shattered Draenor filled with BC legions. All the other classes will get demonic-power based new talents for level 90-100. We will fight and kill Kil'Jaeden. But he is not the final boss. Just the T17 boss. And the end of the expansion and will have an awesome fight. We, Wrathion and Illidan will get support from the Bronze Flight Dragons to fight Sageras. We will not kill Sageras, but we will force him to flee from Argus and we will be able to scatter the Burning Crusade since they have no more leader.

Yes this will Retcon BC but only BC. Illidan will still fight Arthas.

Feels to early to even attempt a fight with Sargeras. Sargeras is currently the most powerful Titan alive. His past job was to go to demonic worlds and purge the corruption from them while the other Titans sat in their desk chairs discussing what to do next.
Thusfar, we haven't even killed an Old God successfully. And as far as we know, Sargeras might not have even been present during the Ordering of Azeroth and the Pantheons war with the Old Gods. (Nowhere in the lore it is mentioned that he ever fought against them and thus he might have diverted to the Dark Side prior to the Titans discovering Azeroth.) Since have never killed an Old God on our own who lost to arguably the weaker Titans (Since Sargeras was their strongest champion and it's hard to imagine he hasn't been gathering more power himself to deal a final death blow to the Pantheon), I do not see it being within the realm of possibilities of us fighting him with a baby dragon on our side (Wrathion is very young and inexperienced and besides that, not even a fraction of his Father's power) and Illidan himself also isn't the strongest individual after we have beaten him blue and stole his weapons.
If this is a real expansion, it will be more of a set up for our invasion of Argus.

At this point, Sargeras and the destruction of the Legion is probably the final conclusion of World of Warcraft, and since WoW is a long way away from being buried, Blizzard will probably keep milking this cow until dust comes out of it's udders. If anything, they'd save him for the absolute last, or not even deal with him at all in order to keep the Warcraft franchise (not WoW) alive for many years thereafter with RTS or singleplayer RPG games.
Titans and the Burning Legion are essentially Blizzard's bible figures. And as far as humanity knows, Lucifer, the fallen angel (Similar how Sargeras is the fallen Titan) is still plotting and brooding down in Hell.
While I don't like it myself, It's probably not even possible of us ever dealing with actual Titans or Sargeras himself. It's like us traveling down to hell and beating up Lucifer, or the Holy Emperor of Humanity rising again from his Golden Throne and smashing Khorne, Slaanesh, Nurgle, Tzeentch and Malal to a bloody pulp and then taking a piss on their bodies. It would end a franchise that could still be milked to infinity and beyond.

+Sargeras shows his head at launch and drains players power (stat squish)

I would like to see more pieces of former draenor, with some "Warlord" commanding each piece of land mass(some friendly other not so) for leveling zones, perhaps the inactive portals in draenor would actually start functioning by some miracle and be linked to other portals located on other pieces(no space ships) oh and content patches could add even more draenor pieces(space islands). Then again lore wise might be abit too much of just Draenor.

Do a simple whois search. Blizzard uses Network Solutions for their domain names. warlordsofdraenor.com is from GoDaddy. Nothing to see here.

Actually both worldofwarcraft.com and wow-europe.com are registered with GoDaddy.
(amongst with starcraft2.com and diablo3.com; it would seem that they use GoDaddy for all of their 'redirect' domains actually)

Plus, if you look at the whois information for warlordsofdraenor.com it uses domainsbyproxy.com to protect the owners identity (which is a GoDaddy service).

Excellent find. GoDaddy is a bottom barrel registrar; even if Blizz wanted to change registrars for some reason, they'd use one with a better reputation. And if Blizz just wanted to confuse things, they could register 50 or 100 domain names out of pocket change.

Blizzard can eat their own shit (as they usually do). Yep, he used Yorshaj heart to get empowered with it's power, but who guarantee that he wouldn't get corrupted sooner or later? You don't simply play with powers of Old Gods. Man, you had a Neltharion, empowered by nobody but Titans and we know how whispering by Nzoth drove him away. And who the F is Garrosh? Ordinary mortal, dumb orc. He was in control, but it wouldn't last longer before he become a peon of Old Gods (thanks to heroes of Azeroth).

Interesting. I'm not certain what Warlords of Draenor is, but is this returning to the Draenei and the burning legion? Instant buy if so. Outland 2.0?
  1. joz123's Avatar
Here's a little theory. What if it's the Warlords themselves that happen to find a rift and they time travel to present time Outland? They realize that everything isn't destroyed and they open up a portal to bring the Legion through to destroy the rest of what they started. Main raids will be like 4 different Warlords then Chromie opens up an unstable wormhole and you have to kill whoever is behind summoning the legion to Outland "from Draenor" then hop back in the portal before it closes, thus staying in present time Outland. Chromie can say something like the wormhole used up so much of their energy that they can't power up another for a long time (another week).

We were discussing this in guild last night. One person brought up a good point that "Warlords of Draenosh" sounds like an Expansion pack for TCG more than for WoW. That being said there is no more TCG but perhaps the first card pack for Hearthstone? Just an idea.
