  • The Draenei will react to the savage world, looking at important points in their history.
  • The Frostwolf Clan is still in the early stages, not working together very well yet.
  • The team went through many iterations to figure out how the Warlords would be brought back. Garrosh was originally going to go back to Outland and resurrect the Warlords, but that concept didn't work out well.
  • This isn't a time travel expansion, time travel is just a tool to explain the ongoing story. It isn't being used to massively change the current timeline. The past is fine!
  • Shattrath was a giant coastal city.
  • This setting allows for the creation of some really over the top villains. "What if the baddest badasses in Warcraft history got together"
  • Is Thrall's father a hero? Is he a villain?
  • Thrall has some work to do in bringing Garrosh to justice.
  • The Draenei haven't had a lot of story in previous expansions, but this one gives the team a chance to look at who they were before the Draenei we know today.
  • The world will be a little more like Timeless Isle, with things like a caravan of Iron Horde being stranded in the snow that you can kill to take the treasure they were hauling. This isn't a quest, just one of the events in the new and more dynamic world.

Q&A
Any update on the book that was being written about Kael'thas?
We are making progress and it is near completion.

How is this time travel going to work with the story?
We aren't going back in time, the Dark Portal is turning red, bad guys are coming through. We look at the Orc Clans as they were, but things are happening now. The end of this expansion will launch the next one.

Did Outland happen or was it changed by going back in time?
Outland is still out there.

Will we see Alleria and Turalyon again?
Not yet. But you will see Khadgar.

The southernmost points of the world are jungle or desert, meaning we are near the equator. Is there another half of the planet left to still explore?
Yes. No. Maybe.

Will we see Paladin lore in this expansion?
Yes, lots of it.

Will Garrosh be redeemed?
No, but we will provide a satisfying ending for you and him.

Is Chris Metzen going to voice the father of Thrall?
No.

Where is Orgrim Doomhammer?
You will see him. He isn't one of the chief Warlords, but he is definitely involved and you will see his story.

Will we have two of characters due to the time travel?
No, this isn't a time travel or paradox story, it is about going to Draenor.

What is going on with the Pandaren faction leaders? We don't really see much of them.
It was a matter of time. We didn't have the chance to do a lot with the Pandaren faction leaders.

How will characters be impacted by seeing family that they never knew?
Garrosh and Thrall didn't know their parents well, so this gives us a chance to show them learning about their family and history. Thrall meets his family and it is really what he needs.

Is there a chance of looking at alternative realities based on what we change by going back in time?
Yes, it will give us that opportunity. It affects our current timeline, but does not affect the past.

What is going on with the Dragonmaw?
Zaela goes back with Garrosh.

Will we see Thrall's mom? Grandma?
Yes and yes.

Is Aggra going to go back with Thrall?
No.

What about Garona?
We will see her.

Does Grom age?
Yes, he is aging. He is old enough to be Thrall's dad now.

The timeline is during Rise of the Horde?
Garrosh goes back a few years before they drink the blood. So it is during Rise of the Horde before critical events take place.

What is going on with Sylvanas?
She is in the background doing crafty things. We will put the spotlight on her one day.

Will the Blood Elves play a role in this expansion?
Yes. Blood Elf paladins, how the light works, and what the Draenei have been up to will be explained.

Is Silvermoon going to be updated?
No.

What kind of Shamanism will we see on Draenor and will it change our Shamanism?
You will see Drek'thar going blind from messing with the elements and other shamanism story.

There HAS to be a traditional timetravel scenario, otherwise we could not play our characters the way they are now if at all. You are underestimating just how important timelines are in history; did you not pay attention to all the bronze dragonflight content throughout the game? It doesnt matter if it involves a different world, they all share the same existence in the timeline, especially since the events that happen on Draenor and Azeroth are interconnected over a span of years.

The ONLY way a "non timetravel" scenario can work, is if the dark portals changing color signified an alternate universe; at that stage both timelines would remain intact and separate from each other. Considering Garrosh went back in time to before the blood curse event, it signifies that it IS a time travel situation. How much of one depends on how blizzard plays out the beginning story.

But no, theres no way that Garrosh could mess with the events on Draenor and have it NOT affect everything on Azeroth that we know today. Its not as simple as "he stepped on a bug...big deal" he fundamentally changed the entire course of history and events by keeping the orcs from drinking the blood, which caused the wars and invasion afterwards, which gave the legion their foothold in Azeroth / Draenor, which is how Warcraft 3 and everything after it came to be.
Think back to the DBZ scenario. Time isn't linear. It is a big ball of...well, you know the quote.

This is bullshit... Go back in time, do not go back in time, this dimension, another dimension, Grom gets killed by Mannoroth, Grom is alive and invading.

    WTF?!?!?!

Can't we just have story continue properly, you know....Major lore characters to DIE, others to take over, old ones to come back, just have an evolving normal story. Next we will go back to save Thrall's grand-grand-grandma through the Dark Portal, which will be, in fact, some FUTURE reality, no? And then Thrall will die, which will actually happen 1000 years back, and we will resurrect Arthas' father, which again will happen in a future reality, and then Arthas' father and Thrall's mother will find each other, fall in love, marry, live happily ever after and that will end the conflict between Horde and Alliance and everyone will be happy. And then we will go back in time to steal a Black Dragonflight egg and put it in a future dimension and then bring it back in the current time and will will have Wrathion as the son of Thrall's mother and Arthas' father and...................

.............What the hell is this bullshit, honestly!!!

Anyone else got the feeling that the garrison will be some "famarama-log in 12 times a day to send your guys out"-thing?

He will likely not be successful with it. Or we will have a certain little dragon show up at the end of the expansion, do a time travel and kill Garrosh before he can change anything. I have no idea how that kind of storyline can end without of being really questionable and cheesy....

I don't mind the time travel thing, but it is annoying at how terribly they are conveying what exactly is going on.

Is Outland being remade like the new Cataclysm zones were?
We are going back in time, but the enemy is coming to us, and it doesn't affect the future? What?

I have to admit i'm confused. We're not travelling; but we're going back in time to Draenor before it was destroyed. Okay...this makes no sense if we're going to see races there other than the Draenei/Orcs, which didn't turn up until after the Dark Portal opened in the first place.

Okay, now it is making sense to me.
But... if they didn't invade the eastern kingdoms during what would be the 1st and 2st wars the human kingdom would be impossible to overtake if they were allowed to keep growing at this point...

This Draenor apparently never was destroyed or even became Outland. Draenor apparently now exists as it would in our time. Thanks Garrosh.

There were other races on Draenor. One of the ones that has always been mentioned in lore as existing was the ogres -- they are native to Draenor too. I expect the same will be said of the Arrakoa, and I expect we won't see many, if any, Ethereals showing up.

But still. Wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey indeed. They really don't seem to have a handle on it at all.

I also wonder if the question about GROM's age was answered with a response about GARROSH's age. Saying that Grom is 'now' old enough to be Thrall's father makes no sense -- either he was always old enough to be Thrall's father, or he was never and can never be old enough to be Thrall's father.

    What?

    Does not compute.

How can you go back to Draenor, but not have time travel.

    Someone explain this to me.

I think at this point, your name is seeming like a likely explanation. It's making no sense to me as well.

Either Garrosh goes back in time and alters it; meaning that Draenor never blew up and all the HUGE ramifications as a result, or else this is some sort of weird parallel universe stuff.

Yes ... Its Blizzard way of telling a "story". Its their way... or dont bother. I have already desided I will pick the latter one and will not touch this expansion. It is filled with holes and on top of that... lacking 5 man dungeons... lacking freshness ... (even MOP was able to do that), and what is worse... lacking good ideas how to take the game forward.

It took some time but I think I get it now. Draenor and Azeroth do not share timeline effect changes.
-Original Draenor, orcs drink Mannoroth blood -> Old Horde steps through Dark Portal, invades Azeroth -> bunch of stuff -> present day Azeroth
-Garrosh escapes, goes back in time to old Draenor -> prevents orcs drinking Mannoroth blood
-Draenor is saved from destruction, however Azeroth remains unaffected (they are separate planets therefore Azeroth's history CANNOT change -- what changes on one planet doesn't affect the other until/unless they crossover [again])
-Over time Changed Draenor catches up to present day Azeroth -> Iron Horde steps through Dark Portal into present day Azeroth (kick starting the expansion)

This is the only way I can make sense of it, especially the bolded part.

The problem with this is that there will be duplicates, won't there be a garrosh duplicate on draenor when he gets there? ner'zhul will figure out he was a villain, there will be 2 different Gorehowls for example, Grom will figure out he died to save the horde etc, all this will just crash together when they invade azeroth...

    somebody halp me pls

    This is getting quantum.

There are two Outlands, but one is just Draenor, both exist in our time with Draenei that were not wiped out on their Draenor so never fled as intergalactic refugees and Blizzard don't want you to worry about it, probably to avoid brain explosions.

I GOT IT! Parallel Universe! Every char will have an alternative history. Actually endless amount of universes with endless amount of possibilities.

    Damn, now I've got headache...
