  • The Special Effects supervisor plays World of Warcraft and is level 90.
  • Marketing hasn't started yet, so there isn't a ton to reveal yet.
  • Jones liked the script, but it was very Alliance centric. He thought it would be better to make it about both sides and the original Warcraft.
  • Jones turned down other films because he was really passionate about working on Warcraft.
  • While working on Golden Compass, the special effects supervisor got up at 2 in the morning to do runs with his guild.
  • Real actors will be used for the Orcs.
  • Avatar meets Game of Thrones as far as complexity of visual effects with live action, advanced special effects, and motion capture on set.
  • There is a lot of Warcraft lore, so they had to pick a certain amount of the lore for this movie.
  • The team has to figure out which characters to shine the spotlight on.
  • There is concept art for Draenor, Dalaran, Ironforge, Stormwind
  • Making environments for the game has a lot of restrictions, but in the movie you can expand on the environment with less restriction and make it more grand / cinematic.
  • Many locations in the film will be on built sets, like the Lion's Pride Inn.
  • The most famous character in World of Warcraft is the actual world itself.
  • Wardrobe and Costume design is being done by someone that has worked on Avatar.
  • The team is looking at details as small as the bark on the trees in Elwynn Forest.
  • People who don't know the world and people who are hardcore players will both enjoy the film.
  • The story is Orcs vs Humans. Lothar and Durotan.
  • Durotan represents the highest ideal of the Orcs. He believes in his people and his future.
  • Both want to do the right thing for their people.
  • The games weren't the best way to tell this story originally, so the movie will be a great opportunity to tell the story in an even more epic way.
  • Someone has to win and someone has to lose, but everyone loses at least a little bit.
  • The style of this war movie will be similar to Gladiator, gritty.
  • WoW doesn't have scabbards, so where swords will go has to be worked out.
  • There are no plans for an art book for the movie, but it is a possibility.
  • Lots of the cast has been picked out.
  • The first movie has to be done right, then they can think about doing more.
  • The majority of the movie takes place in the Eastern Kingdoms.
  • The lore of this time doesn't have many female characters, but the producers are pushing for including some female characters.
  • We will see a preview sometime next year, maybe at Blizzcon.
  • Metzen would like to do a TV series one day. When they originally decided to do a movie, Game of Thrones didn't exist on TV yet, so most similar stories were told in movies. If everything goes well, maybe a studio will want to do a TV show.
  • The Lord of the Rings movies inspired Jones to want to do this movie. He wants to match or beat them at making an awesome movie.
  • Someone is working on the Orcish language for the movie.
  • The movie will be PG13, but the PG13 rating is shifting. Batman movies are PG13.

Producing is nothing like directing. Producers deserve almost no credit for the artistic vision of a film; their job is to make sure the creative folk get the money that they need and to ensure that work is getting done.

That's why you constantly see flop movies that are advertised like, "From the producers who brought you a blockbuster!"

Directing matters. Cinematography matters. Screenplay matters. Those are the really important elements. Not so much producing.

At least there's some solid info out there. It was a good presentation and Duncan Jones seemed to be geeky enough to get things right. Now we can start guessing the budget for this project... if they do plan to tackle the Lord of the Rings, god damn, at least they set the bar right!

I... err... what? What are you even talking about?

I cannot make sense of anything you are saying. The point is that Duncan Jones has Moon & Source Code under his belt, Peter Jackson had a few Gorefest B-Movies & Heavenly Creatures was hardly a Box Office or Cinematic success. Yet Peter Jackson (And the talented people with him) pulled off one of the greatest Trilogies of all time, Duncan Jones could easily do something great with Warcraft.

If you actually think Duncan Jones isn't at least a decent director, you clearly have not watched either of his films.

so that is the reason when a movie gets an Oscar, a main Producer goes and picks it up first......

sure, some producers on movies are just titles and they dont do anything, but main Producer is the head of production. Sure he doesnt have a lot to do with artistic approach, but he/she is the person who picks right ppl for those jobs.

I really wish they wouldn't mention Avatar so much. That movie induces cringing in half the people interested and wild cheers from the other.

I can't comprehend how they didn't get any of it leaked.
As someone who attended said panel at Comic Con, there was a teaser shown. It was shown by Legendary, the production team behind Duncan Jones and the movie. As with anything shown in Hall H ahead of its time, it was more a mood piece to gauge reactions and interest in the project. Blizzard were probably shown it as well, but obviously couldn't get the rights to show it at Blizzcon and to a wider audience at home.

Can't wait for this movie to finally be developed! Oh, and if you hear either Michael Bay or M. Night Shyamalan wanting to take part of this, tell them NO!!!

You know the f***-ups they've done!!
    Transformers and The Last Airbender

Fuck good news. When I heard they planned on making the movie alliance central, I felt like puking up over my warcraft novels. I don't want a movie that only has good guy humans against evil generic orcs, if I wanted that I'd watch lord of the rings or the hobbit.

I want to see the good guys in the horde as well as the bad, and durotan as the main horde protagonist makes it nicely balanced in that. Well the outcome will be obvious to anyone knowing warcraft past, that doesn't make they can't develop the orcs in a better way then just warhammer football thugs.

How does durotan make sense? He and Lothar were never anywhere near the same battlefields.

Trilogy should have been about Uther, Arthas and Bolvar.

Goldshire! Yeh you need to change the rating to 18 at least and even then i would recommend years of watching some of the worst types of porn available just to ease your mind into how goldshire is >.<

New dungeons & dragons movie incoming! Really doubt it will be that impressive, I hope i am mistaken but we all know how most medieval fantasy movies end up.

To be fair, neither did Jackson when he took on LotR. And somehow that turned out well. I'll give Jones the benefit of the doubt for now.

Regarding "Durotan vs Lothar," they could just mean the characters' individual ideologies and personal narratives contrasting with each others in the face of the First War and the threat of the Horde. I.E. Lothar struggles to defend and protect his people against the new threat while Durotan struggles to defend his culture and people (Frostwolves) from the changing and frightening new Orcish behavior.

I could be wrong though, but to me that sounds WAY cooler for a film than an actual "Durotan vs Lothar physically on the battlefield" scenario.

I want to see Orcs Thrashing, night elves prancing, undead... dying, Dwarfs Mining, Gnomes tinkering, humans... doing whatever humans do! And everything in between!

A TV show of a dying franchise? No thanks.

    "Lothar and Durotan"

They don't have anything to do with each other in current lore, so this is interesting.

New lore or 2 seperate stories?

It's true they don't have anything to do with each other directly, but they indirectly affect each other. They are from the same timeline. The good guys of their factions. I hope they show Durotan's assassination and where Aedelas Blackmoore finds baby Thrall leading to Warcraft 2 movie where will be based on Lord of the Clans book.
