Yeah... seems like WoW will stabilize at ~7M subs for a while.

Yeah. Enough members to rival the population of most states in the Union. Definitely a game that is 'struggling'. *eyeroll*

It's just dying in the Sylvia Plath sense, not the terminal illness sense.

Honestly, I think games like LoL are pulling more people away than other MMOs, when I talk to people they usually aren't even aware games like FFXIV exist. They don't remotely have the exposure to compete.

Why, is it that bad? I only liked the original nes version.

Everything will eventually die at some point. I wonder if the people who played with sticks were in a panic during the the advent of radio when everyone stopped playing outside

Excuses, excuses, excuses. The content wouldn't be released as it is TODAY ever... It would be tuned for a new game release vs. tuned for sprinting from L1-85 to reach current content. How do I know? Because that's exactly how it was released when it was actually NEW. Its not like the game it was then didn't have a shit-ton of pvp balance issues, PITA questing issues, etc. It totally did and it still grew to support much more than 3 million players. Why? Because the good things far outweighed the bad and its value was better than its competitors. Not much has changed.

An expansion pack for such an old game shouldn't have giant, unexpected technical hurdles and shouldn't be in an alpha state at this point. Especially if they're cutting corners by eliminating flying and cutting down on garrison features.

I'm not surprised the numbers aren't lower. The strategy to buy 90's was perfect. It makes people feel like they're cheating without really giving them any advantage. It's a major psychological short term boost that I'm sure a ton of people where happy to pre-purchase for.

And once you have that 90 you might as well hang around and play them.
I wouldn't say they're having giant technical hurdles, it's just taking longer than they thought. And so far it's only cost them 200k subs. I think it's a safe assumption.

Q2 will probably be neutral at worst. $20 for WoW + MoP = sales and a free month means sub numbers

This is an interesting article about sub based moms and their upcoming growth.

Not sure why people are saying FFXIV when its being sold for the reduced price of 8$(Canadian) at the local Target. I'm not surprised about the number tbh. End of the expansion, with a teir thats dragging on we should bottom at 7M and bounce back up come WoD.

The only thing more tired than saying WoW is dying, are the jokes about people that say WoW is dying.

You completely forgot about the spike in population that will be caused by WoD.

Also 7.5 mil subscribers gone in 2 years? Lol that is extremely unlikely unless meteors landed on the US server farms.

Even if WoD is the last expansion, I guarantee that by 2018 WoW will still have at least 3-4mil players which is enough to hold it's place as the MMO with the most subscriptions.

WoW will end when Blizzard pulls the plug. It will never go down under a million players.

Also, out of those subscribers they've "lost", many - myself included - will still buy WoD and play it for a bit. And then the next expansion. And so on.

If blizz wants 12 mil or more they will need to revert alot of the changes they have made. The game doeant feel as good anymore. Honestly i was super excited for cata... and it was fun at first but then felt like a different game the further you got into it. I think alot of others felt like that too. Mop was wayy too kiddy cartoony. Realistically blizz should have just made another game. Anyways i can see it dipping to low 6m before expansion hits. If its another cata because of the game overhaul it wont surprise me to see subs drop to 5 mil in late '15.
