Update (9:15 PM EDT): Added 6.2 notes update

WoW Down to 7.1 Million Subscribers
Blizzard had their Q1 2015 earnings call today, announcing that WoW is down to 7.1 million subscribers at the end of Q1 2015. This is down 2.9 million from the Q4 2014 call that listed WoW at 10 million subscribers. This appears to be the largest drop in subscriber count in the history of the game.

  • Tokens are not included in this timeframe, as they launched in Q2.
  • World of Warcraft’s revenue performance at constant FX has been more stable, driven by continued strong uptake on value added services, and price increases in select regions, which partially offset subscriber declines, particularly in the East.
  • Heroes of the Storm had over 11 million beta sign-ups.
  • Hearthstone is now at 30 million players, up from 25 million last quarter.

Gotta love how everyone becomes an expert on the subject when its about a decrease in subscribers. 7 million is still wast, game is not dying, you should review your facts or just use common sense. Notice how summer is on the doorstep and this suddenly appears to be a normal thing

Then I guess people will continue to just buy the new expansion and quit till they get bored of new expansions as well. Endgame is the lifeblood of WoW, without it, it will actually start dying off.

I think destroying professions is my biggest complaint. Drowning in materials from your garrison while not being able to use any of it because it is all gated is bad enough; you can barely give mats away now, but the "catch-up" mechanism made all of the old world mats completely and utterly worthless (except maybe a few types of cloth used to make bags). Plus by the time you do finally get to make a few pieces of gear it is all but obsolete because of raid gear, and with the garrison buildings everyone can have every profession now. The whole thing is a disaster, professions are just ruined.

Its not that everyone has become experts. Loads who took part in BETA were asked to give feedback when they didn't like the feedback this blanket of Arrogance was clearly felt. Same happened in CATA
the stand out feature for me is the lack of understanding how classes work, They based WOD around cutting back that flies in the face of what an expansion is all about. 3 expansions now have been based around a more user friendly experience that might attract new players. It isn't working and hasn't for a long time. This expansion is pretty new and already we are back to MOP levels this early on??

We know from past experience they take ages to bring out patches of any great depth/value. The Game is sound its the direction the current Devs are taking is the issue IMHO. We need new ideas the current lot are clueless

For me it was really simple. Can't fly in this expansion so i could not be assed to go out in the world and do stuff. There are plenty of stuff i want to do but i just can't be assed. Bring back flying!

I know people who will buy this game when the flying option be in the game again.
Exploration, mats grind, archeology, dungeoun finding, fishing are all ruined by this 'feature".

A good example: My friend love Archeology (I don't know why), but he has to farm in MoP zones to get boxes what can change into missions what gives WoD fragments for him, because takes more time to collect fragments without fly mount in Wod zones like this way.

But they had to hold these numbers until Blizzcon: new exp. hype will bring people back for one or two months after that they will start beta!

Oh, and they are adding FLYING MOUNTS in its first expansion. I find that funny. It is like the biggest bullet-point on the list of features. Flying Mounts.
They are not just adding flying mounts the whole exspac and the world they are designing for it is based around having flying mounts. You cant fly in the old world.
after checking the benchmark I am already pleased with what I have seen.

Not to mention after checking out the patches it seems in the year I have been absent they have added quite some content both group and solo. So it seems they have a good ration in churning out content.

For the people that say blizz needs to put out expansion more regularly that wont work and it not really necessary they need to bring out more content patches like FF14: ARR is doing. Every major patch seems to have a specific theme/story line attached to it with a semi raid/some quests and little tibits etc. it keeps people interested.

They will release 6.2 in the next few months, announce the next expansion at blizzcon and hope the hype will make people forget how shitty this expansion was.
That's six months, and more with waiting for beta. The game will be a ghost town by beta.

Why would u need flying there is nothing to do in the world except apexis crystals, and u most likely get summoned to raids or can just sit on a flight path 2 mins

Your move fanboys. Making something easier = making it more boring. Making MMO solo game = killing the MMO.

7.1 million for a 10 year old MMO is still incredibly successful. And we all know when the next expansion comes along it will jump back up again.

ITT - everyone's pet theories on why they lost 3 million subs. Oh it must be the lack of flying! It must be casualcraft! It's because PvP is imbalanced!

I like it. 7.1M people still like it enough to stick around. This is it's natural state. The 3 million people that came back were a bump. A glitch. They came back because of hype, and many found it lacking. It's a steady slope downhill from here, but the people that like it tend to stick around when there is content they like.
