Curse App Upgrades

The migration to the new Curse App continues with improved addon management support and guild servers!

  • Complete WoW addon and addon settings management
  • Guild Sync, allowing for easy guild server creation with lots of customization options for permissions and channels
  • Full item linking support to show off loot, complete with tooltips
  • UI Wizard lets you easily share your addons or create custom UI packs
  • Faction themes for Horde and Alliance
  • Full Mac support
  • No ads
  • Expanded localization support for many more languages

Guild Sync is a free, easy way to create a chat server for your existing WoW guild.

  • When guild members join, permissions will be granted to them based on their in-game rank.
  • You can post polls to vote on things like raid nights.
  • Create multiple channels for different groups and other activities.

Everyone has been granted a preview of several Curse Premium features through September 25th, 2016:

  • Update all addons simultaneously
  • Multiselect addons
  • Auto-update addons
  • Dragon avatar border on your profile in the Curse app

A Curse Premium subscription will be required to continue using these features after the promotional period ends.

I really prefer a simple lightweight program that only manages my addons. I don't need it to do anything else.

I agree. I dont need (or want) my guild chat and my add-on management in the same app. It feels like they only added the add-on management to the chat app to drive people to use that instead of discord.

I normally just like a lightweight program but i already use curse client for chat/giveaways so makes sense it being included in same client loving it.

This is exactly why you have this ad-as-content. It isn't free to run MMOC.

(Personally I have no problem with it.)

Yeah, no. I'll use the old curse app until it stops working. Then I will go back to manual installs for my addons.
The new curse app is just one big ad.

Great app to bad they broke overlay some builds ago and still not working, but also lovely free TS like server for your entire guild. wish recruitement link where easier as cant copy ingame guild information text

Fix overlay please and make easy join link for members that are actualy typable and its perfect and maybe I buy new curse premium membership again.

And I realy do not see reason to be negative over this app, no reason to be.

also mumbeling about mmo-champion is part of curse.

And Premium is not even needed, you can download up to 20 addons simotanious, no adds in app it self.

If the ads weren't so intrusive and dodgy then maybe people wouldn't use adblock

    Yeah, this here?

    Don't do that.

    Ever again.

Don't shove this garbage down our throats. We visit for WoW news, not shitty premium "app" bullshit.

Used the new version for about a week before deciding it was not for me. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like we'll get any choice in the matter soon as everyone will be eventually forcefully upgraded. Here's some take away's of my time with it.

    * Another program trying to do what I already have other programs to do that are dedicated to that specific function.
    * Missing the Play button to launch your game. Why?
    * Took me probably 15 minutes after initial launch to go through all of the option to disable things I didn't want.
    * Not all options are clearly labeled to designate what they do. There are some helpful hints in places but those are vague as well sometimes.
    * Did not detect my PTR install during setup.
    * You cannot launch the app directly to the addon screen. You have to click the small WoW icon on the left-hand side taskbar. Why isn't this an option?
    * Longer app launch screen with animated intro. Why?

Needless to say I was happy to switch back to v5 of the client and will continue to enjoy it until they rip it from me permanently. I'm not against app development progress when it makes sense. But when my app management program starts to behave like antivirus programs have over the years and get bigger and more bloated I have to look to another product or find another method. Unfortunately that other method would mean manual app downloads and version checking on my own. Sigh...

There is simply no need for an additional guild chat feature in a lightweight addon management program when others provide a better more reliable service. I sure hope they are going to maintain their lightweight version just for managing addons, or you'll find that people just wont use Curse at all and some other party will take over providing us with what we want.

Does all addon functionality go away after the 23rd? Or just the "Update All" feature?

Is there anything else that easily handles addons for free?

I uninstalled the old version and installed the new one. I launched WoW and when on the loading screen the game crashed. Same thing happened after I restarted pc. Curse wasn't running. I am performing scan and repair right now to see if it fixes anything

EDIT: Scan&Repair didn't work. I am gonna delete temporary game files now.

EDIT 2: OK removing the Cache folder from the WoW directory did the trick. I hope this post helped someone.

Actually you can launch it to the addons screen, though that is rather hit or miss after an update.
It is a replacement for the previous curse client, which will in time be phased out.
So if you used the previous client, then that isn't additional but intended in time to be a replacement.
For me the splash screen duration isn't too different from the previous list of steps, though arguably if it is just for animation purposes an option to skip it would be nice.
I agree that it doesn't do everything right, but then no program by a 3rd party will tend to.

Curse make money off those extra services, so it makes sense to have them up front and center in the client if people do use them.
Those that don't want an individual client, those that do may well benefit from them together.
    You can't please everyone.
