Legion PvP
Legion made significant changes to the PvP system:

Honor and Prestige
  • Honor and Conquest currencies are gone!
  • Honor now increases your Honor level, unlocking more of the Honor talents and allowing you to rank up in prestige.
  • Honor talents are only active in PvP combat.
  • Resetting your Honor Level once you reach the cap gives you a Prestige Level.
  • Earning Prestige Levels gives you a badge on your nameplate, unit frames, and scoreboards, as well as a title, wearable faction pennant, Artifact skin, a mount, and pet.
  • Legion Season 1 will cap at Prestige 4 and Season 2 will cap at Prestige 9.

Items and Stats
  • In PvP instances you use a stat template for your class and spec.
  • Your gear provides a very small increase to this stat template based on item level. Trinkets and set bonuses are disabled.
  • Your average item level increases your stat template by a percentage, a 25 item level difference between two players results in a 2.5% difference in stats.
  • These stat templates allow for better tuning, allowing the team to balance for PvP and PvE independently.
  • There is no PvP specific gear, so the best players in both PvP and PvE content will be able to earn the best gear.
  • There is one Artifact model with four different color variations tied to Prestige, requiring Prestige 1, 5, 9, and 13 to unlock.
  • There are several new PvP mounts.

PvP Seasons
  • The end-of-season PvP awards are given separately to the top percentages of players in each faction, instead of in relation to the overall player base.
  • There will be shorter and more frequent PvP seasons.
  • Two new arena maps are being added.

Mark of Honor
  • Mark of Honor are rewarded from Battlegrounds, Arenas, and
  • Marks are used to purchase old PvP sets for transmog purposes.
  • You can purchase an arsenal for 80 Marks, which gives you all of the weapon appearances from a specific season.
  • You can purchase an ensemble for 12 Marks, which gives you all of the armor item appearances from a specific season and set.
  • You can purchase the old PvP mounts for 15 Marks.
  • Almost all of the old PvP items that were on the vendors for Honor are now on the vendors for Marks.

Honor Talents
Honor Talents are a new system in Legion.

  • Honor talents are unlocked by increasing your honor level.
  • Initially only the first honor talent is unlocked, then one more in each row as your honor level increases.
  • The first row in the second column unlocks next, then talents down that column, and finally the last column.
  • These talents will be locked again if you trade your max honor level for a Prestige level and you will have to earn honor to unlock them again.
  • You can browse the honor Talents on WoWDB or use the Honor Talent calculator.

Earning Gear in PvP

You will not be buying PvP gear from a vendor in Legion. Instead, all gear will be acquired through the strongbox system.

Battlegrounds and Skirmishes victories have a chance to reward you with gear on par with heroic level Dungeons.

Arenas and Rated Battleground victories have a chance to reward you with gear on par with Raids. As your rating increases, the ilevel of the gear increases. So a player in the 1700 range may be getting Normal Raid level gear while a Gladiator caliber player will be getting Mythic Raid level gear from Arenas. Each bracket rewards gear based on your rating in that particular bracket.

Each week, the first few victories in each rated bracket will be a guaranteed piece of gear. Currently, we're thinking the first two victories but it may increase to three. This is not enabled on Alpha due to a bug. It's been prioritized to be fixed soon.

Also, keep in mind that in Legion, your stats are predetermined in PvP instances. But your overall ilevel will increase those stats. The base item level at 110 is currently set to 800. If your gear level is 810, your stats will be increased by 1%. So while better gear does offer an advantage, it can be more easily overcome than in the past.
