You may remember that Patch 6.1 removed some of the spring in the step of the new Night Elf male character model's run animation. Patch 6.2 does the same thing for the Night Elf female model.

This Month in World of Warcraft History
World of Warcraft turned 10 last November, and we’re well on our way into year eleven! A lot has happened since the game’s launch, and we thought we’d look back on one of the game’s most memorable bits of May-based history with you.

May 2007—Patch 2.1 introduced The Black Temple, one of the most iconic raids in The Burning Crusade expansion. Players entered the Temple to test out whether Illidan was right when he said they were “NOT PREPARED!”

Yup, he won the recent Blizzard-sponsored voting. It's more of a "community spotlight" type video than an advertisement.

Correct! When and where we can we like spotlighting members of our community who have a positive impact on their peers and create compelling content. Hopefully it's something we can continue to do.

I don't pay you to
I don't think this is ever the start of a constructive statement in any context.

We want to promote members of the community who create compelling content and are positive influences to those around them. That's all.

We just think some in the community could benefit from being exposed to the creativity of others out there. If we have additional opportunities to inform and entertain the community with content from their peers, we think that's a good thing.

If this doesn't apply to you or you're not interested in being a part of it, we're certainly not forcing you to click on anything in the launcher -- and never have -- to play the game, other than the button to launch the game of course!

Videos of WoW players shouldn't be on the bnet app.
That's absolutely a valid opinion with which we happen to disagree.

If you must put videos on the launcher, then I would rather see you guys highlight the dev team, the art team, the music team, the CM team, the quest team, etc. Those are the true content creators.
That's understandable. And we do that every chance we get, though those teams are obviously filled with very busy people. And some weekends we might like to show what others in the community are doing. This is one of those weekends. (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

Timewalking - Feedback and Bug Reports

Community Spotlight: Jandice Barov by TamplierPainter

This week’s Community Spotlight is on TamplierPainter, who recently created this excellent piece called “Jandice Barov”. We asked the artist to tell us more about it.

Q: What was your impetus for the design of this piece?
A: I really like the old instances and raids in WoW. You could say that I'm a big fan of the classics, and that’s one of the reasons that I decided to portray this character. Most players’ attention goes to new content, but I would very much like to draw the attention of players to old dungeons and bosses, some of which have been long forgotten.

Q: How long does it take you to create something like this?
A: This is affected by many factors, from my workload to the complexity of art. If I’m very lucky, I can finish it in a week. If not, a picture like this can take up to six months. But this one only took about a week.

Q: What other works inspire you?
A: I love the creativity of Wei Wang. For me, he remains the undisputed authority going back years. He just has amazing technique and command of anatomy, light, and detail. His piece "Darkness Falls, Heroes Rise" took my attention for a very long time. I was also delighted by his "Warchief Garrosh Hellscream”. He is like a teacher to me, and I hope to get to meet him personally someday.
I also really like the work of Andree Wallin and Mariusz Kozik. They are great masters of their craft.

Q: How did this one tie back to the game?
A: Most of all I love the Warcraft story and the world itself. I love the characters and heroes. I remember, as a kid I played Warcraft: Orcs & Humans, and most days of my life since, I’ve continued to play games from this universe. Playing WoW, I usually spend most of my time in PvP. I would like to fully complete the PvE content, but that wouldn’t work with the amount of time I have to spend on my art.

Q: If you could add one thing to the game, artistically, what would it be?
A: I don’t really know. In artistic terms, the game is so harmonious and efficient that I may not have anything to add. Okay – I wouldn’t mind updating the old battleground loading screens! I like how the the new battlegrounds (Kotmogu, Mines ) have very nice loading screens by comparison.

Patch 6.2 Zone Preview: Tanaan Jungle
Blizzard posted a preview of Tanaan Jungle tonight, a zone somewhat similar to an improved version of Timeless isle.

Originally Posted by Blizzard (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
Deep within Tanaan Jungle, the manipulations of the warlock Gul’dan have twisted what remains of the Iron Horde into a sinister new form—an army of fel orcs brimming with demonic strength and insatiable bloodlust. Now Gul’dan continues his machinations from inside the seemingly impenetrable Hellfire Citadel, plotting to open a portal for a massive invasion force.
In Patch 6.2, level 100 heroes of the Horde and the Alliance must return to Tanaan Jungle and stop Gul’dan before his dark plans bring about untold ruin. As part of your quest, you’ll explore Draenor’s darkest corners, confront twisted new foes, and face a new series of chapter-based quests that will put everything you’ve learned on Draenor to the test.

Getting to Tanaan Jungle
One does not merely stroll into Tanaan Jungle—there are preparations to be made, including establishing a Shipyard for your Garrison in a bid to take on this new threat from two directions: both land and sea. You'll progress through a series of quests in which you'll be asked to build a Shipyard, begin an assault on Tanaan by sea, and set up a new forward base hub—Vol’mar for the Horde and Lion’s Watch for the Alliance. Completing missions will provide materials for your Shipyard, supporting your ongoing efforts to control the seas of Draenor.

The Story Continues
Much like the previous Garrison Campaign chapter-based quests, a new series of random quests will take players through the developing story and further into the jungles of Tanaan, including key locations such as the cave in which Kilrogg sacrificed his eye. Over the course of your journey, you’ll learn that Gul'dan and his fanatical allies have even more sinister plans up their sleeves.

Objective Hubs
Once your new outpost is established, you'll go on the offensive and choose one of two hot spots each day to assault. Your goal is to undermine Gul'dan's plan to drag the whole of Draenor into chaos. There are seven new areas to explore, including:
  • Ironhold Harbor: Stop the Iron Horde's reinforcements from making landfall.
  • Ruins of Kra'nak: Stop Gul'dan's Shadow Council from recruiting the arakkoa.
  • Temple of Sha'naar: Defeat demon-summoning Sargerei in this ruined temple.
  • The Felforge: You'll need to throw a monkey wrench into the manufacturing of fel machinery.
  • The Iron Front: Hold the line in this massive battlefield to the west.
  • Throne of Kil’jaeden: You and your party will face elite creatures and attempt to stem the demonic tide.
  • Zeth’gol: Take your assault into the capital of the Bleeding Hollow.

More to Explore and Discover
There will be even more to discover as you make your way through the ongoing battle for Tanaan. Safety is an illusion, and the jungle houses more than just Gul’dan’s new Horde. The warlock's influence has had a corrupting effect on the land, and the fel water that flows here taints everything it touches.

You'll also discover more minor quest hubs and a variety of wildlife, along with dozens of new treasures and Rare creatures just waiting for unwary travelers to stumble upon. The path through this treacherous place is yours to forge.

Timewalking - Feedback and Bug Reports
Originally Posted by Blizzard (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)

First off, some context for the feature, since I know there is some confusion regarding its scope and intent: Timewalking is intended to allow players to experience some of our iconic older dungeons in a relevant context, offering a change of pace to max-level and leveling players alike during the event weekends. For players who have nostalgic memories of racing through Shattered Halls in 2007 to beat the execution timer and complete a Trial of the Naaru for raid attunement, Timewalking will not recreate that experience. Sorry. I completely understand, and I have the same memories of needing to two-heal Skyriss at the end of Arcatraz because otherwise if your sole healer got targeted by his mind flay you were likely to wipe on the spot. But it is not possible to recreate that experience without fundamentally redesigning the dungeons, and that's not what Timewalking is about.

What made those terrifying 7-pulls in Shattered Halls terrifying wasn't necessarily the encounter design, so much as the limitations of core class and combat mechanics back then. The default Protection warrior tank would be frantically trying to tab-Sunder through the different mobs to keep them from running off and attacking the healer, while AoE wasn't really possible on pulls like that both because of threat restrictions and because many specs or even classes had no functional ability to do AoE damage. Zereketh the Unbound in Arcatraz has three mechanics: Void Zone (the good old classic), Shadow Nova (a point-blank AoE), and Seed of Corruption (the old warlock spell as it existed back then). Attempting to make that a truly challenging encounter for today's players would require either making all the abilities do massive burst damage (more frustrating than fun), or completely redesigning the encounter. We certainly do update and reimagine old dungeons (e.g. Upper Blackrock Spire in Warlords), and will continue to do so, but Timewalking aims at preserving them in their original form.

At the same time, the content shouldn't feel completely trivial, and we're aware that right now it often does. Some of that is due to scaling bugs (and in the case of some of those bugs, they will completely break any semblance of gameplay as you walk through two-shotting every enemy), but in general combat times are still too short across the board, sometimes not giving adequate time to even experience a creature's mechanics. Tuning is not final, and we'll be iterating on it over the course of the PTR.

Known issues:
  • The item level of rewards for scaled-down level 100 players is not final (it will be going up), though in general the intent is for the items to serve as catch-up gear, and not to contend with current raid gear. The quest associated with the event will offer a reward that is attractive to raiders of all levels.
  • If you have a pet summoned before you accept your queue, the pet likely will not be properly scaled down, and will destroy everything.
  • Some set bonuses and other procs (e.g. the T17 Demonology set bonus demon) are not properly scaling down.

When offering feedback, I'd strongly encourage running an add-on to keep track of group damage, and reporting any notable outliers. And if you're using something with broken scaling, you're certainly free to continue doing so on PTR, but understand that it pretty heavily undermines the rest of the experience and thus your ability to provide meaningful feedback on that experience.

Raid Testing Schedule - April 29-30
Originally Posted by Blizzard (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
This Wednesday and Thursday, we will continue our Hellfire Citadel raid testing. As is always the case with PTR raid testing, it is quite possible that there will be technical or gameplay issues that disrupt our plans. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.

Remember that Heroic difficulty scales for any group size between 10 and 30 players, so feel free to assemble and bring a group of any size within that range. Our general plan is to test every encounter on Heroic difficulty first, and then test sections of the raid on Normal and Raid Finder, alongside targeted Mythic tests.

Each encounter should be available at approximately the listed times below on all PTR servers.

Wednesday, April 29
  • Hellfire High Council - Heroic Hellfire Citadel - 13:30 PDT (16:30 EDT, 22:30 CEST)
  • Mannoroth - Heroic Hellfire Citadel - 15:00 PDT (18:00 EDT, 24:00 CEST)

Thursday, April 30
  • Hellfire Assault - Heroic Hellfire Citadel - 13:30 PDT (16:30 EDT, 22:30 CEST)
  • Socrethar the Eternal - Heroic Hellfire Citadel - 15:00 PDT (18:00 EDT, 24:00 CEST)

After the conclusion of our final Thursday test, we will open the Halls of Blood Raid Finder wing (Council, Kilrogg, and Gorefiend), and we plan to leave that wing active through the weekend. There will be no scheduled Friday testing.

As always, this testing schedule is very fluid and subject to the realities of a PTR environment. We might have to change the time of a testing session, change the boss being tested, or cancel a test entirely, due to bugs, server hardware issues, etc. Keep an eye on this forum for the latest information, and thank you in advance for testing and providing feedback.

I'm having a hard time seeing how that's a bad thing. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your post, but it sounds like you're saying that one good player should be able to carry two bad players to top ratings. If that's the case, we just don't agree.

1. You're completely missing the point that lowering the skill cap actually deters high rated players from playing with low rated players because of that reason.
Yeah, this is the part of your post I don't get. I'm not seeing why you think that's the case. If the game is made easier for low-rated players, wouldn't that just mean the one highly-skilled player on the team has less work to do?

2. It's a bad thing when really great players can outplay the other team hard and NOT be rewarded for that outplay.
Agreed. I just don't think that that reward needs to be "able to win regardless of what my teammates are doing."

3. It's MUCH harder to climb the ladder unless you play with high ranked players.
It is much easier to earn high rating if you play with highly-skilled players, yes. Again, I'm not seeing the problem. (Official Forums)

Armory Stats - Legendary Quest Line Achievements
This weekend a thread talking about an old quote from the Dragonwrath drop rate changes has been pretty popular on the forum, so we are doing another update on the progress of the legendary quest line.

This time we are looking at the percentage of overall players that have the achievements, the percentage that have done some Highmaul (at least the first wing) that have the achievements, and the percentage that have done some Blackrock Foundry (at least the first wing) that have the achievements. Unsurprisingly, the players that raid more are more likely to have progressed on the quest line.

The data used today is a sample of 6.8 million characters from 3.2 million accounts. We also did this at the end of 2013 for Mists of Pandaria, which you can see here.

The WoW Token has remained ~37k in the EU and ~22k in the US over the last week or so. Please keep in mind our visitors do not represent the average WoW player.

Unfortunately Blizzard removed the Wealth category of statistics from the armory back in 2008, so we can't just pull data from the Armory API like we do normally.
