Harbingers - Khadgar
The second video in the Harbingers series has been released.

Upcoming Camera Changes

Thanks for everyone’s reports so far. We’ve been able to use them to isolate a few more potential sources of motion sickness, and are currently working on sending out a small hotfix patch that will hopefully address at least some of them. We wanted to give a quick heads up on what we’re changing.

For starters, we were able to identify some potential issues with how flying mounts are behaving differently in patch 7.0.3 compared to 6.2.4 that we believe will help some players. Once this hotfix is live, flying mounts will no longer bank/lean to the sides when rotating in place, and the extent to which they lean when turning while in motion will be lowered back to how it was in patch 6.2.4. Additionally, we’re fixing an issue that was causing the camera to “pop” when landing or taking off on a flying mount.

We also identified and fixed some bugs that were causing some fairly extreme issues with the camera while the player is considered by the game to be in a “vehicle.” Because of how that tech is used, this includes several situations that might not obviously seem like you’re in a vehicle, such as the later parts of the Al’Akir encounter.

Finally, we received a surprising number of reports from players that indicated they had somehow unknowingly activated “Action Cam.” For those who are unfamiliar, Action Cam is an experimental alternate form of camera control that is currently unfinished and not quite ready for the general public. It had become available through a console command in the Legion beta, but since it doesn’t give any unfair gameplay advantages and (so we thought) had to be expressly activated by the player, we’d left it accessible through that command.

However, it has become clear that more than a few players have somehow turned it on without knowing, and it’s a major cause of motion sickness for those players. So, we’re going to disable it entirely for now, and plan to bring it back in a future patch once we’ve sorted out all the motion sickness issues and given it a little bit more polish.

These fixes will be active on the PTR and Beta realms for testing as soon as possible, and if all goes well, we plan to apply them to live realms on Monday, August 1. Once they’re live, please do continue to report areas of the game or activities in which you’re finding yourself feeling unwell. Videos in particular are extremely helpful, as they allow us to see exactly what the camera is doing at the time. We’re continuing to put our highest priority on resolving these issues and getting you back in the game without having to worry about motion sickness.

Preview - Professions in Legion

Quest to Be the Best
First and foremost, you’re going to find yourself going on more Profession-related quests than ever before. An Archaeology questgiver may want you to work with Brann Bronzebeard. A Jewelcrafting questgiver may challenge you to put the finishing touches on some gems. Only a commitment to working with your Profession trainers will earn you the most cutting-edge recipes. There are new quests related to most everything you do in each Profession, and as you learn your new and improved tradeskills, Profession-oriented quests will push you to rank up your recipes.

Recipes With Ranks
That’s right, in Legion, you’ll commit to your recipes to upgrade them, making them more efficient than they previously were. You can see each recipe’s rank in stars in the updated Professions window.

Ranks also apply to your gathering Professions—mining, herbalism, and skinning—where you’ll earn ranks of perks that make you a better gatherer.

Obliterum and Blood of Sargeras
You’ll find that among the many new items related to Professions in Legion, two will surely stand out: Obliterum and Blood of Sargeras. You’ll obtain Blood of Sargeras in a number of ways—it can be an added drop when gathering or disenchanting, and can be received in all manner of quest and dungeon rewards.

Blood of Sargeras is a rare reagent used in many recipes, from Engineering’s Cranial Cannons (a gun you wear on your head) to Jewelcrafting’s Chatterstone toy. Along with other reagents, Leatherworkers will use 25 Blood of Sargeras to craft the Great Northern Elderhorn mount.

You’ll obtain Obliterum by obliterating crafted gear at your Obliterum Forge in Dalaran.

Obliterum is the epic item that upgrades the item level of your crafted armor by 5, taking it from item level 815 all the way to item level 850. As with so many steps in your professional development, gaining access to your Obliterum Forge is the subject of a quest line.

This Thing Goes to 800
Every Profession in Legion has 100 new levels of fascinating and fel discoveries for you to make, as well as new and exciting adventures for you to undertake. Archaeology in the Broken Isles means new finds that can turn up a mount, a pet, a toy, and some items that are available via quests rather than digsites. Tailors can make clothes chests that allow others in their party or raid to try on a whole set of clothes in one click. First Aid quests will have you bandaging up the wounded on the front lines of the war against the invading Legion. Scribes will create valuable Vantus Runes, which increase your performance against a specific boss, and you’ll want to savor Cooking, which now includes bacon.

Some Blacksmiths will even learn how to craft a Steelbound Devourer mount!

Group Loot Bugs

There's a significant bug with Group Loot that posts like this have brought to light over the past day. On Leather and Mail armor, which has both Intellect and Agility, the presence of Intellect is incorrectly preventing Rogues and Hunters from rolling Need on those items. That's obviously unintended, and terrible. It shouldn't behave that way, and we're working towards a fix within the next day.

The Tier Token behavior you mention is also unintended - class restrictions should be respected. We'll investigate and fix if something is awry there.

No comment on the issue of iLvL restrictions preventing rolls? Or is that a working as intended with the intention being to really force PL on all situations and hope that altruism suddenly grows in the cesspit that is most of the playerbase?
Sorry, I should have mentioned that. We don't believe that is currently happening, and it's absolutely not intended. If an item is for your class, you should be able to roll Need on it regardless. If it is specifically for your spec, your roll should take priority over off-spec rolls. And if an item is not for your class (unequippable or intended for a role your class cannot perform, such as a rogue looking at a tank trinket ), then you should only be able to roll Greed/DE. There should be no other logic or restrictions on the system, and if you encounter any, we'd be very interested in hearing more.

The reports we've seen that seemed to blame player item level for inability to roll, thus far, were actually caused by the Rogue/Hunter issue I mentioned above.

We’ve prepared a video below to give you a glimpse at how an army of talented individuals came together to bring one of Blizzard Entertainment’s most tragic characters out of the game and into the world. We hope you can feel the effort and passion that went into making this concept a reality.

A Word from Mike Morhaime:
“We are thrilled to see the unveiling of Arthas, created by Taiwanese designer, Steve Wang, happening in Taichung”, said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “The statue of Arthas is not just for the 25th birthday of Blizzard, but it is also our appreciation to all gaming communities in Taiwan. Camera and Motion Sickness Issues
Originally Posted by Blizzard (Blue Tracker / Official Forums)
First and foremost, please know that this is a topic of discussion and development across multiple teams here. We have teammates who are sensitive to motion sickness. We care very much about making sure playing our game doesn’t make you – or them – feel unwell.

Although the maximum camera distance changes are the most immediately noticeable, there were several less-apparent changes made to how the camera functions in the pre-expansion patch, and we’ve already identified some cases where those changes may be causing issues. Here’s a few examples:

  • We’ve found an issue with camera shake effects, which we’re currently working to hotfix (if you’ve run Bloodmaul Slag Mines since the patch, you’ve likely noticed this one).
  • There was a systemic change to our graphical renderer which changes the way FoV is calculated. Manually resizing the viewable game area (which is usually done via “viewport” addons) may be affecting the game camera differently than before. We have identified the cause of this issue and are actively addressing it.
  • We’re also tracking down some vehicle-related camera bugs.

We believe that underlying issues like these are the actual source of many of the motion sickness concerns. To that end, if you find yourself feeling ill in-game, examples of where you were and what you were doing at the time would be very useful for helping us track down exactly what’s causing the issue, especially if you can provide video footage so that we can see what the camera was doing at the time.

This issue is very important to us, and we’re working hard on investigating and correcting it as quickly as possible. Any examples you can send us are very much appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Playing now is like having a bobble head camera that bobbles, wiggles and lurches about of its own accord while my character simultaneously moves and the environment around my character is moving changing too so kind a 3 way motion hitting you at once is very disconcerting and for me leads to attacks of vertigo, nausea, headaches and visual issues.
The camera shouldn't be doing anything like what you describe. There are a few specific new bugs we're tracking: Vehicle camera tracking can break horribly (Al'Akir's phase transition is a drastic example of this bug), and flying mounts are banking excessively when turning, as well as causing a camera "pop" when landing. But we're also wondering whether many of the issues being discussed and reported aren't the result of something going wrong with interface settings...

Have you tried typing "/console actioncam off"? Does that help or change anything at all? If you go to Interface -> Camera, what is your "Camera Following Style" set to? Finally, which UI addons, if any, do you use? Is it possible that any of them might be modifying your camera settings?

Appearance Unlock Clarifications
Originally Posted by Blizzard (Blue Tracker)
We’ve been seeing some confusion regarding the restrictions on what appearances a given character can unlock, so we wanted to take a moment to clarify what those restrictions are, and why they are in place.

In order to unlock an item’s appearance, it must:
  • Be permanently bound to your character
  • Be equippable by the character that looted it
  • Be of that character’s primary armor type (e.g. Cloth, Leather, Mail, Plate)

Additionally, if a piece of gear drops while you are in a raid or dungeon, the item’s appearance will be removed from your collection if you trade it to another party member (in the brief period where that’s allowed).

We require items to be bound to your character because we want only one player to unlock an appearance per item. We don’t want to create situations where, say, a group of players passes a BoE item around to everyone, or a raid group has everyone pick up the shiny new sword before the Warrior can have it.

The restrictions by class, level, and armor type are in place for several reasons, the biggest of which is to make sure that all classes are on a relatively even playing field when it comes to collecting appearances. We don’t want everyone who’s interested in collecting appearances to feel like they need to roll a Warrior, for example, because they can technically equip all four armor types. If you want to unlock appearances for your Priest, you should always feel like your Priest is the best character to do it on.

In the end, our goal with this system is to make it easier to fill out your transmog collection without incentivizing unusual or disruptive play habits. As with any system we add to the game, we’re planning to keep iterating on this as time goes on, so thanks as always for your feedback.

Where is Need/Greed?
It's now called "Group Loot" - it's an improved version of the old Need/Greed system that automatically prioritizes "mainspec" rolls over "offspec."

Round Robin and the old "Group Loot" option were removed in 7.0.3, since they were almost entirely unused. Loot options are now: Group Loot, Master Loot (if in a guild party), Personal Loot, and Free For All. (Official Forums)
