Biography:
As my signature says, I am a nationalist. A lot of people are confused on this subject and assume it to mean I am some totalitarian patriotic nutcase. In truth, nationalism is little different from Buddhism or any other system that emphasizes inner strength, inner peace, and the like, with the small addition of the classic ideology of "good fences make good neighbors". No nation can expect to be taken seriously around the world or participate seriously in anything greater than itsself if it is weak, poor and stupid at home. This moves on to the second aspect, a nation cannot be taken seriously if it cannot enforce it's own borders, and it cannot do that if it lacks the capacity, knowledge, and health to do so. At this point, people are assuming I speak only of military might. That is not true. Secured borders benefit your own nation as much as they benefit other nations. Two nations with a shared border can work together to make their border much more secure than if each one was attempting to secure it on their own. Of course, when anyone brings up "borders" these days, they assume isolationism, which once again is a faulty assumption. As history has long demonstrated, nations that isolate themselves cut themselves off from a great deal of good that goes on in the world. Isolation is a bad policy, but the neo-liberal policy of open borders, free-trade and the like is equally harmful. A government exists ONLY for the benefit of it's people, it serves no other purpose and therefore needs to at all times retain the ability to selectively open and close, import and export whatever it chooses, whenever it chooses. On the subject of trade, trade is good, but reliance upon others is not. No nation should run a consistent trade deficit. Ideally, each nation would produce the vast majority of products it's consumers NEED, while products that consumers WANT would be the primary imports. Necessities should never be imported in favor of exporting luxuries.
