To be fair, you didn't give it a fair enough chance, imo. But if it's not your thing then what can ya do?
Also, you couldn't be more wrong about what the show is about...

Is anyone else really pumped for Ao no Exorcist? I'm pretty stoked for it. Hopefully it is as interesting as it sounds. ^.^

Dragonauts (boobonauts would be more accurate), Karin and Desert Punk are good so far. Under rated in my opinion.

I have a question to Ruroni Kenshin fans: If I happen to have the mood to watch it, what should I start with so the timeline match the story? The OVA or the series?

As Nakiami said you don;t get it among other things those are NOT monsters they are other vehicles. Also not ONCE will you hear them being called angels or anything of the sort. The show if anything is about adolescence and hardship as well as personal growth and human nature.

It really is a great show and i can;t see how anyone could give it up but w/e floats your boat i guess.

if you want to watch kenshin in chronological order:
Samurai X: Trust & Betrayal (ova) -> Anime (do yourself a favor and stop watching after episode 62) -> Samurai X: Reflection (ova)

Most people think the ovas are better than the anime. You really do not miss out on much if you don't watch them in any kind of order

I'd agree with this. Dagonaut(aloso Boobonaut really is a great nickname for it and been around for some time) really is a fairly good show if you're just looking for some good ol gonzo fluff(you know tits asses action and so on just mindless stuff for a lazy afternoon) same with Desert Punk.

As for Karing BY THE GODS taht's one of my favorite series i own all 14 manga volumes the extra book Airmail(side stories some taking place after one or two at around the same time and the last in europe with a surviving Maaka clansmen) the fan book Bites 8/9 Light Novels(9 is due out in the sates this winter) and the original Geneon boxset of the series. So yeah i LOVE this show and can definitely agree that it's underrated hell not even well known enough IMO.

I think that is the only original series I'm hopeful for next season.

Though I'm still much more excited for Kaiji, Mariak Holic, and God Knows season twos, in that order.

    its called character development

for example with TTGL when Simon went from wimpy, to emo, then finally a badass hotblooded hero that everyone likes.

also interesting fact Kouichi has the same VA as Simon from TTGL

I wouldn't count on it. In the manga the character development has been pretty slow. While there were 2 good fight scenes they were over really quick. So unless they do some fluffing to make the series a little more exciting I'm not expecting to much from the series from an anime standpoint.

If you didn't include the "lol angels" I would have been so sure you were talking about Evangelion.
Oh no, I said the E word. Now I won't go to sleep because I'll be too excited for 3.0... (anyone know any more about it timeframe wise?)

Has anyone mentioned Wolf's Rain in this large list =O? I'm 2/3's through the series right now and the only thing i haven't liked about it so far is the recap episodes in the middle of the series, it's like... i kinda wanna skip them, but even as a recap they have a few tid bits you didn't see before~ But besides that the series seems to flow nicely <3~

LOL Bokurano kicks Evas ass IMO. But then I've never been a big Eva fan anyways so meh. Still say Rahxephon kicks Evas ass myself and no i didn't see Rahxephon first just like it more. Course that's pretty easy when you don't even really like Eva and consider it one of the most overrated series ever i feel the same about Akira.

Clip shows ya mean? Yeah most series have em at some point if they're over 12/13 episodes. Also yes it has been mentioned multiple times just as it has been mentioned this thread is now more the general anime thread than about Sy's taste.

still waiting for the last 2 Eva movies...

nah honestly, i liked it too (even if it didn't fit my likings completely), but i didn't like the ending too much either. it felt awkward.

was the same for me, the recap episodes were a little annoying but i watched them nonetheless.
and it's flow, the "long, weary journey"-feeling, is pretty much unchallenged by any other anime i watched (although Ergo Proxy had a similar atmosphere at times, as far as i watched it).

I'm looking forward to C. the most for the next anime season. It's made by the same person who made Mononoke( I think I spelled that right), Eden of the East, Tokyo Magnitude 8, and Fractle.

Samurai Champloo was interesting but i never got to watch the whole thing through~ And yeah Sy "long, weary journey-feeling" is a perfect way to put it ^_^~ I can't wait to finish it though, My friend had gave me the whole Box set with soundtrack as a early birthday gift =O! so i kinda hafta finish it xD I guess he didn't like it that much (he doesn't seem to have a huge passion for anime, i think his Brother got it for him but then he never got into it, i was collecting dust on his shelf when i was looking at it! what a crime =x!, but i went over his house one day and was cleaning the dust off of it while looking at it, and he was like [would you like to have that as a early b-day gift?] i was like hell yeah! xD dudee your so awesome <3) , but i've always loved the series, i just never got to watch consistent episodes when it was on Tv. Most of those episodes came from the earlier parts of the anime~

There was somthing about samurai champloo the made me stop watching about half way through...watched it 3 times to the half way point untill i finaly got all the way done...dont know what it was about it that made me stop the first few time though same with wolfs rain(going to give it another shot since it was just brought up)

And this just croped up on one of the sites, Nana to Kaoru and all i can say is....yeah? 1 episode only and a realy odd premise for a non hentai story.

Ohh and all you K-ON!! fans, it just got an extra release as episode 27 from coalguys

wow i'm surprised i didn't find this thread sooner. i'm more of a manga fan myself but since Most of the manga i have are anime as well it shouldn't be too much an issue.

out of the comedy, the ones i do agree with though are samurai Champloo, Haruhi, and Full Metal Panic. i haven't seen many of the others mentioned.

i can understand why people had mixed feelings about Samurai Champloo. it has a lot of moments where they try to add today's rap culture into feudal japan. probably why it gets such a good comedy billing though. its nice for overall. it has some action, some drama (granted not much at all, depending on your definition of drama), and a Long but decent story line.

I'd say the description of full metal was spot on. fumofuu was more or less an entire season of filler episodes.

Haruhi was special though. i've seen two seasons of it and have been trying to locate the manga. apparently there is a lot of content that never made it to the anime. or so i've been told. looking for just comedy, i'd say watch it and have a good time. try to wrap your head around what the story about and by all means let the rest of us know what you come too. I've both seen and been told what the basic premise of the anime is but i don't want to drop any spoilers for anyone.

i tried to read the chobits manga but didn't get far....didn't strike me as a comedy though.

Okay yea, i'm a dude, but oddly enough i have seen Shuffle and EflenLied.

i watched shuffle cause of an amv i saw and later found out it is based off of one of those "dating sim" games. there is a technical term for what they are called but i forget. It was a good anime for the romance lover. simple. i will say this...that amv i saw was very misleading.

I liked ElfenLied because i enjoy the odd little psychological factor it throws in. its not a large part of the story but its enough that it kept me entertained. Probably in the same way that i liked Neon Genesis Evangelion. Which is another one that's probably going to leave you curled up in a corner sucking your thumb trying to figure out what just happened after its over. make sure to watch the movie after the series. it helps.......somewhat.

I will say that i'm pissed i haven't gotten to ever finish Wolf's Rain. i've seen a handful of the beginning episodes but that's all. i enjoyed it and wouldn't mind finishing it as i keep hearing good things about it.

As for death note....well....i've found i'm one of the few people in existence that didn't like it. I got through a Good portion of it. I'm not sure how close to the end i was i just know that after a particular moment it just got to the point where i decided they were just dragging it out and milking the story to get their money's worth. I don't know really. the first few episodes were cleaver and i liked the over all concept but i think it just got out of hand. maybe i should finish it but i can't say i really want to. the Whole story basically got Too convienent as it went on. some of the plans and counter plans just went TOO well in my opinion.

i have seen two seasons of Gunslinger Girl and i could actually see that falling into the drama/romance section. as creepy as that may seem. i understand how and why it was placed where it was though. second season was pretty different from the first though so i have mixed feelings about that. Honestly i'd say to anyone curious to just watch it and form your own opinion.

When they Cry was actually REALLY Impressive. i've only seen what ever hulu had up so idk if i've seen the second season. all i know is that the last episode i saw basically answered all the questions i had about it. i assume it was the last episode in the first season. unless i started watching into the second season and didn't realize. saddly i can't find it on hulu at all anymore. time to scan the internet to find out. Virus protection Go!

Princess Mononoke was interesting. i would also have to agree that Sy's description in the op was pretty much spot on. *thumbs up*

    Other anime i'd recommend personally:

Full metal Alchemist. i'm sure plenty of ppl have seen it. but there is also the Full metal alchemst: brotherhood out now which is also a must see imo. brotherhood is based exactly off the manga though. and they have completely different endings.

the Count of Monte Cristo: Gankutsuou. Freakin Awesome. the art style and visual effects of the anime will likely make your eyes bleed but you get use to it quick. as the name implies its based off the Count of monte cristo story, the difference is that its more futuristic and has a Scifi element to it. i HIGHLY recommend it

I also enjoyed Mushi-shi. its a good little leisurely anime. not really action, drama or anything really. there is no over all story arch either but it works. its more or less about a doctor that takes care of medical issues brought about by what i guess you could describe as super natural creatures. there was a live action movie made too but that was pretty bad as it tried to get the whole series into something like an hour and a half.

those are pretty much the ones i think would be pretty good. there are plenty other that i also personally enjoy but this post has already gotten long enough. I love anime and manga though so i'm all for conversation.

Thanks Sy for making this thread btw. i'm glad there are places anime lovers can chat without some tool walking in and declaring it all porn without even watching any.

    Several things.

1 Harui ISN'T based on a manga but light novel series and TBH the manga will probably follow the anime more than the light novel.

2 Chobits was NEVEE meant to be a comedy as far as i know if you want comedy see DEARS Chobits was meant to be more of a dark series.

    3. Being a guy has NOTHING to do with liking Shuffle and Elfen lied since males were the target audience to begin with. Thus putting you right where you belong. Now if it were something like Fushigi Yugi or another shoujo show then maybe but trust me those are aimed at men.

4.If you think Eva and elfen lied are depressing you REALLY need to try Bokurano and Shadow Star Narutaru those will mess you up eva and Elfen lied are like kids series compared to what those shows do. Most people are amazed that Dark Horse dropped Narutaru for being too dark.

    5. Umm what kinda forums have you been on. Most gamer forums know anime to not be just porn or kids sows but a mix as broad as anything. Alot of people just hate it for some reason. I mean i don;t think i've ever been on a gamer forum that thinks anime is all porn or pokemon.

Oh and this one is in general to all the eva nuts. Why do s many people keep saying evas ending is confusing? I mean i don't get it and it seems pretty straightforward to me but I'm just wondering if someone could explain it to me.
