For my money though, you simply can not beat Xbox Live for online play. I would recommend a 360 over PS3 every time unless you are only getting a PS3 to play its unique titles, like I did when I bought mine.

OT: Frankly, get both. Get 360 for sure because it is likely going to last at least another three years with third parties continuing to produce games for it. Once more info comes out on the Wii and its games lineup you can decide to invest in it or not. I'll believe Nintendo is moving away from their once wildly successful family strategy when I see it. They made a boatload of cash with that strategy on the Wii but it has completely killed their continuing sales. I'd like to see how the new system is designed as a movement oriented system or a controller oriented system. I want to know about these new controllers that are going to have what are assuredly useless screens that massively drive up the cost of a remote. I want to know what they are doing to expand online play which will come if they actually have mature titles like FPS games.

You can't go wrong getting an Xbox now especially with the ridiculous line up of upcoming titles like ME3 and LA Noire. You could go horribly, horribly wrong investing in a system that is being released mid-console cycle for the other two companies which could seriously limit the amount of intellectual property released for it that isn't just Nintendo owned trademarks.

Mario Kart Stream? Im there, hold the shock.
Also you dont pay Helen Mirren 20,000 Wii points then abandon your marketing scheme.

Certainly not as Nintendo has a vast library of E games that are incredible, but online play is the driving force behind most video games nowadays. Most, or all, of the best online console games are rated M.

Nah, I'm only speculating based on history. Sorry if it doesn't blow smoke up your ass.

You must have missed where I even said "I could be wrong."

The timing seems way too early. You don't show your hand that early and allow your 2 competitors who have vast pockets to then one-up you. But hey, everyone said the Wii would fail and it did pretty well, so maybe they'll shut us all up again.

i bet you xbox network was just as secure as PS3 network. if the hackers were after xbox then they would have been hacked.

Hrm, you got me there. <.< I still enjoy some of the lighter-rated online games, but I very much love mah M games that I play online with.

Anyway, I really hope Nintendo steps a bit further into the M market (I was fine with Wii's selection, but more is better of course), there is much profit to be made there, while still providing a massive library of family-friendly games.

I doubt that Nintendo will drop what made them rich just so they will be taken seriously by older gamers, losing all those families/those families' money in the process. Get a 360.
They aren't dropping them, they are targeting both groups. They have the foundations in place for Kids and Family but now they are building the foundation for Hardcore as well. Any thought they are taking away from the kids/families is off target. New consoles supports old console technologies..

Nintendo sucks if you want anything other than a casual 5 year old game.

The strength of the new Nintendo console's game library will depend on whether or not they're finally willing to work reasonably with third party developers. Their failure to do so is what resulted in almost all the good games for Gamecube/Wii being first party titled and even caused Square to take the Final Fantasy franchise to the PS.

The only thing stopping Nintendo consoles from having great "core" games is Nintendo.

When WI came out nintendo said it will be a console worth is money with innovating technology... look how that turned out ?
Nintendo always turned out crapy overpriced products imo ( in the last 3-4 year at least, hands down the first nintendos were great ), better but the Xbox and be sure you are buying something worth its money rather then hoping WI will launch a good console, w8 1 more year and pay twice as much.

What history are you speculating on? The one where Wii is the best selling of all 3 curently and your claims are entirely refuted by history you so call claim to be true. Hey apple also did horribly 15+ years ago and is now amazingly worth as much and i believe since the current statement pumping out more than microsoft. Use current history not 20 year old history please. and your assumptions are shotty at best. Yay blind fanboyism that refutes anything that doesn't support but their ideas.

I would buy the Xbox 360. I would buy it because even if Nintendo's console had much better hardware, the 3rd party developers that make hardcore games will still have those games on the 360. As such the quality difference between the consoles will be minimal. It is like PC version of Xbox titles, they do not fully take advantage of the PC hardware as there is no money in doing so. Looking back I also think the Xbox has gotten its fair share of unique content and DLC before they came to the PS3.

I would buy it because Xbox live is fantastic, it truly is for an online gaming setup and I highly doubt Nintendo will be able to rival it for a few years. Sony is still quite behind with their online setup and they just got crushed. And the video and music options on Xbox Live and PSN for that matter might not be available on the new Nintendo console. If you want to be doing a lot of online console gaming then the Xbox 360 is by far the best console for it.

And finally I would get the Xbox because Nintendo has failed for many years now to attract 3rd Party Developers to their console for exclusives, and their own exclusives target a younger audience.

Nintendo has a very interesting history, filled with more good than bad.

    Good:
-SNES/NES games were, in many cases, hard because they were intended to be. Anyone remember the very first Megaman games? Battletoads? Yeah, HC Sinestra, take a bloody hike!
    - Usually the first console producer to try something new, and do reasonably good at it. No matter how buggy, the Wii had FAR better motion controllers than xBox/PSsomething had. The other companies even took so damn long to release theirs that it is obvious they only tried because Nintendo had proven it possible.
    - Nintendo knows which titles to keep. I.E. Zelda, the Super mario franchise, Harvest Moon(been around since SNES, major moneycow), Metroid etc.
    - Say what you want about "kiddie" games, they still packed more interesting gameplay into 50% of their games than Microsoft and Sony did COMBINED.

    Bad:
    - Some terrible launches.
    - Due to their creativity, they have had some terrible ideas.
    - Yes, the Wii had WAY too many "kiddie games". the non-kiddie ones were fantastic, though^^
    - They should NEVER have let Squaresoft go to Sony!
    - No decent Mana-game =(

Fun Fact: Last summer, Nintendo announced the end of their five-year "Bring the Family"-project, which was (major shock incoming!) announced FIVE YEARS PRIOR TO IT ENDING! *gasp* They also promised to do more for us "hardcore"/"Longtime" Nintendo gamers. So far, they've done really well on keeping pomises, so I keep my hopes up.

So, personally, I'd go Nintendo Stream. By all means, xBox have some pretty nice titles, but Nintendo will always have Super Smash Bros and Mario Kart. Most awesome multiplayer games ever, as fun when you're 12 as it is when 42 =P

Edit: Of course, Nintendo will NEVER have anything on the other consoles when it comes to online play, so if you prefer CoD/CS over single player, you should go for 260

The one where Wii is the best selling of all 3 curently
NPD numbers from march 2011 put the Wii at approx 290k sales, the PS3 at approx 360k sales, and the Xbox 360 at approx 433,000 sales.

There might be more Wii's sold total, but they are no longer selling more then the other consoles, and this decline will surely continue.

Also the Wii being a success is true, but for a real gamer it was a huge failure.

Honestly, they don't even have to make "mature" titles for me. If it has good gameplay/story i'd be happy with it. I wont touch the Wii because i can count the playable games on one hand, the rest is shovel-ware shit.

"only games with an M rating are cool"

God this gets old...Why must people think that they need to have M rated games for the system to be good?
