if they were disturbing the peace thats different. but i doubt they were and as for the officers word over some college kids its all determinant, even though an officer is considered a more "reliable" witness usually it doesn't change the fact that it's about how you argue with what you've got. they won't get criminal mischief unless somehow nerf guns can now actually damage property, and all you'd have to do if they were to cite you with a disturbing the peace is to create a case saying that the officers were mistaken substantiated by enough proof. my question is what was the OP actually cited for. It sounds more like they were cited by campus police and now have to go to the campus "court" to argue their case, which wouldn't really be hard at all, because let's face it sure there may be some askew law in colleges that says hey no projectile weapons but i feel like thats a far one.

Fully depends on the school, time of day, prior notice, complaints, etc. If they were in an area where that's not allowed or disturbing others they can and should get in trouble. You're in college grow up others may actually have a future and dont wanna deal with kids running around with toys while they're studying, lots unknown here...and many schools would take action on this probably just probation though if first offense

calling the cops on kids who are playing with nerf guns instead of you know... contacting the RA (who even though he may be in on it), whose entire job is to work with the students on the floor and settle disputes, seems a bit immature imo. That and it's the first week, at least at my school there are still parties everyday of the week for the first week. if they were doing this in the library sure, but who knows, there are too many unknown stuff atm it just seems stupid period

Nothing will go on your record. My friends brought water guns into their dorm and got a slap on the wrist. College isn't as fun when you're in a dorm and RA's are all over you. Move into apartments on/near campus next semester. MUCH funner. (If you like to party and get in trouble that is)

I love everyone here pointing out that its against the rules, or that their immature...

The campus police came...and took nerf guns..think about how fucking dumb that is, it doesnt matter how immature it is, whatever it is, the cops are just... wow... nerf guns...

to call the cops without even speaking to the people committing the act or GOD FORBID use the you know channels that are provided to you that are paid for you by your tuition aka the RAs. it takes some kind of a. jerk. and more importantly b. child who can't get up and go ask nicely or at least try and talk to someone other than the authorities about a disturbance within the first week of school. so yes, the kids who called the police are immature, what kind of person doesn't have the maturity to take control of a situation and walk up to them and ask, and if that doesn't work then discuss this with your RA. They essentially skipped AT LEAST 2 steps, no sorry that's not mature at all. next time my neighbor does anything slightly wrong to offend me, you know play his music a lil too loud, i'll remember that i should go run and call the cops before even confronting him. thanks for the maturity lesson

Anything that might resemble gun is against the rules.
By that logic if i make a gun shape with my hand would they expel me?

as a college student myself, i've had several run-ins with the "cops" that patrol around campus. They're pretty much worthless <snip> with nothing better to do 99% of the time.

funny story though, my area of campus is always crazy and is known for parties every weekend thursday-sunday, and on Halloween two years ago some cops thought they were gonna be cute and came to the apartments, and started walking around knocking on doors in the middle of the block party. So, while they were off being douchebags, a couple of my buddies snuck over and slashed their tires. Was great. The years following that, the cops wont even leave their car when they show up to our area of campus, they'll just flick their lights on to let people know they're there.

Lesson? I suggested you weren't very observant in college to not notice how immature people are. Also, your actually going to go out in the hallway walk to the RA's room past all the people doing the shit and not expect to get your ass beat later? Lol, your special.

If your using it to "pretend" to shoot people. If they think your practicing, rather. Law is to paranoid.

Lived in dorms, never seen a fight break out because someone asked someone to be quiet ever, even in the 4 or 5 instances that RAs got involved, hell i've seen people straight up yell up and down the halls at each other screaming for people to shut up late at night, even when alcohol is involved. Sure as hell have seen fights break out over cops being called though. Not sure where you went to school where it was ever considered okay to you know beat someone up and face charges because they asked you to be quiet, or you "told" on them to the RA, when all the RA does is make them settle down.

That's pretty stupid. I've been caught doing much worse stuff by the police (possession) and have managed to get off. Playing the "I'm just a stupid american" in a foreign country works pretty well.

Well we didn't all go to St. Mary's or where ever you went. I have never seen a fight break out (fight had already been going) once cops showed up anywhere. No point in saying anymore to you as you can't for some reason get the important parts down and keep adding additional fluff that has no bearing on the actual event. They were messing around, cops got called, cops were mad and made them have to go to the discp board. Thats all that you need to get to understand his situation no what if the person who called the cops asked nicely cause they didn't. I have never once had a neighbor ask me to turn my shit down I have had the cops come to my house about 4 times with a complaint about the noise. Just saying most people don't want to deal with shit like this themsleves so they call the cops. Thats all have a wonderful evening.

When you go to the hearing apologize profusely for using those incredibly dangerous nerf guns. Then play this for them.

And that's why I don't believe in college. The rest of the thread is why I don't believe in private security.

    1) You didn't almost get arrested, campus security "arrested" you.
    2) If there is no rule in the student handbook or anything posted, calmly explain that and say you want the guns returned so you can remove them from the campus. If the matter is not dropped and you are kicked out of the school, take them to court. Chances are, you'll win if you didn't violate any rules.
    3) Misleading title is very misleading.
