Iced Earth = Power Metal the way it should be. Dark and heavy.
Iced Earth is good, although if you like the many Iced Earth/Blind Guardian(Songs they worked together on, not and/or) songs try Kamelot.

Quite a shock that Loomis left Nevermore, but maybe Dane will go back to Sanctuary.

So I take that as you calling me a douchtard?

Each to their own opinion but Despised Icon were a great deathcore band.

    Bleh

As far as Deathcore is concerned, Despised Icon is one of the better ones. I still wouldn't listen to them, but they're not anything near the abortion that is Chelsea Grin.

I recommend Nortt. Great one-man project. By the way I checked out Swans, pretty nice indeed.

Some of my favorite bands are:
Metallica, been listening to them since i was 7 in 1990.
    Lamb of God
    Pantera
Tool (unless you dont consider then metal)
those are my absolute favorite bands, i like wayyyyy more metal but im in a dark area and my laptop is dying so i cant charge it up so i can crank up the brightness to see more or i would go on.

    That's awesome. Except I can't stand deathcore.

If a genre solely boils down to 'breakdowns', then stuff it really. I remember seeing a whole list of songs in here going 'z0mg, most brutal breakdown evah' and all I heard was the same boring shit played over and over with the same shitty production. Call me old fashioned, but I rather have a proper song to remember than breakdown after breakdown.

I'll post a (non-metal) breakdown that is done well, so we can get it over with and move on to actual fun stuff.

I dislike how these threads always go down to butthurt and insults. Everyone likes different shit, let's move on. Oh, here is this delicious cake by the way.

People just want different stuff out of their music. Some want epic. Some want brutal (MOAR BREAKDOWN!). Some want memorable melody lines. Some want so much guitar wankery they're getting blisters just thinking about it. Others just want to hear stuff that they haven't heard a bazillion times before or isn't just rehashing the old stuff in a regurgitated manner.

I honestly don't care that much, except I do get annoyed when people offer bands that just give the impression to be in it for the money as the new best thing.

All music seems pretty realm to me. Just let the kid be, as life goes on one learns to discern the better things from those which are not as good. Then again, we all like shitty things from now and then, err I mean, things which do not require much talent to play/compose. There is nothing wrong in liking it, it's just preferences and sometimes we can't help it.

is it bad that one of my favorite blind guardian songs if a john farnham cover?

my favorite actual song of theirs is Sacred Worlds, though

There's nothing wrong with liking hardcore for that matter, I love hardcore and have a soft spot for breakdowns. I can't really stand deathcore just listen to Jungle Rot or Day of Suffering. Jungle Rot is from NYC so the hardcore elements are felt in their DM and Day of Suffering is a hardcore band with strong death metal influences.

been listening to decapitated all day today and it's pretty awesome

they released organic hallucinosis and went on tour when their van caught fire and 3 members died... it's a tragedy really.

yes, it's brutal, but there is a lot of talent and creativity here.

Winds of Creation is great, generic but great and a testament to that band all the members were under 18 when it was wrote which is insane. I think the drummer was like 16 or something to bad his life was cut short he was a flippin amazing drummer.
