Anonymous posting names from child porn sites

I just read an article that they have stopped over 40 web sites sharing child porn and giving out the names of people that use them.

And they are getting a lot of heat for doing so, saying that it should be done by the police and not by "amateurs"

I say; Finally they are doing something good.

Here's a link to the timeline events posted by Anonymous

Doesn't help a huge amount. You can't DDOS a site forever.

And the trouble with releasing usernames is it means nothing without IP addresses or real address to go with it. I think they've tried linking some usernames to real names by using google or whatever but it's really just complete guesswork. They have no real way of delivering justice to the site users because they can't be tracked. Only a complete idiot would use the same username in their regular life and their "other" life.

It's classic Anonymous, they don't trust authority so they like to deliver justice themselves. But ultimately they have even less power than the police to actually be able to punish these people.

Anonymous - doing things you're not quite sure you agree with fully since... uhm, I don't really know when they started.

I mean, those that share child porn oughta burn in some remote area in hell, but still, I don't know if they fully deserve a name and shame. Better just to submit the list to the police.

Well .. Dunno if what they did actually helped? Doesn't seem like it, but well .. Cool to see someone doing something about it.

But at least they are trying to stop them from sharing the sites

I don't think they are posting names online, but giving them to... Someone

If they would post all the names they got in public, they would get a shitload of bad press for self-administered justice together with some serious lawsuits (although the authorities would have a really hard time finding them).

I don't think hacker groups too much care about "bad press". the idea is they are never to be found. If they are, it's over.

well what this hacker group just did is make it so no one can go after these sites or there users, the site was hacked by a known hacking group and that is a compromise of the records and false information could have been entered, good going now if the government was investigating you just killed there case.

I agree with 'anything' to effectively get rid of child porn. As long as it doesn't hurt the kids.
On a side note, my English teacher went to jail for 2 years for having over 40k pics and 200 hours of child porn on his computer. Kinda creepy that I was around him...eurgh.
    Raaaa!

But it's debatable, whether something like this will do anything against the actual abuse at all. I think it only relocates the consumption.

From an objective point of view, it's not like it's their fault.
They can't help that their brain is hardwired to find scat or children a turn on, it just is.
Provided they don't act on the urges, you can't jail them for thought crime.

Give it to the police, and if they don't use it than post it in public.

But I think it's good they did it, even if it is a hackersgroup.
