OH, my mistake, doesn't differentiate among talent tree...Don't know if someone has come up with one yet. The info for that can be gleaned by looking at the talent trees :\ There are trees at http://db.darthhater.com/skill_calc/...ight/guardian/. Different ACs on the bottom.
    Awesome, thanks again.

Yeah and it looks really natural ... thats why I can't decide between Sage Merc or Scoundrel... they all have something I like.
It looks really nice while casting and holding the sabre in the other hand for deflection and/or just showing off .

I was spending much time researching all specs for all healing clases, so I guess I can give you the general feel about them based on what i gathered from streams or the testing forums.

    Sith Inquisitor/Jedi Consular
    Sorceror/Sage
Madness/Balance - DPS, Very mobile Ranged DoT based with some life leeching abilities.
Lightning/Telekinetics - Classic DPS Caster, with a DOT used in your rotation (for the 31 talent ability to crit 100% of the time)

    Bounty Hunter Mercenary/Republic Trooper Commando

Arsenal/Gunnery - Also a hardcasting (cast time based not dots) ranged DPS, with big bursts. Rocket spam basically as Bounty Hunter. I actually like the animation, many dont.
Pyrotech/Assault Specialist - Mobile Melee DoT/sustained damage... except rail shot/high impact bolt Procs not much burst there, but looks very fun if you like to be where the action is.

Found some good video on this guys channel for Mercenary/Commando Specs. He goes into detail with each spec and some PvP of every spec in action. www.youtube.com/user/faction60

    Imperial Agent Operative/ Smuggler Scoundrel
Lethality/Dirty Fighting - Like you said its close range DoT based sustained damage, with a little more survivability.
Concealment/Scrapper - Classic backstab based burst DPS, with big crits and everything from Stealth. Seeems to do alot of damage. In one stream in a duel between PvP tank Juggernaught, the Operative took him to 50-60% in the frist 3 hits (with crit luck). After that it gets more sustained, but you have the option to Vanish and do it all again ... 50% Armor penetration form the 31 Ability works wonders against any tank. So if you get the jump onsomeone who is alone and you know what you do, your opponent should be dead.

So there is something to be said about every spec...
I guess if you like Stealth Operative is the way to go... I still cant decide, because I usually dont like to relie on stealth for killing someone, but it looked really fun. Especially on the Smuggler, where he uses a Shotgun like weapon for the big hits instead of a knife like the operative. Ahh blasting someone from Stealth and hes landing flat on the ground never gets old I guess.

This is actually one of the reasons I decided to make my healer a Trooper rather than a Consular. If I have a lightsaber, I want to hit things with it.

That's the same thing one of my guildies said. "If I don't have a lightsaber I'll be less likely to go and hit something I shouldn't."

Wife and I were wanting to do Trooper Vanguard/Commando combo. Though seeing that the Trooper is still behind the curve in the healing department is making me want to switch to a different combo. T_T

Don't give up! Trooper/BH is still playable, especially when leveling. By the time you and your wife are max level, I expect the issues with Trooper/BH healing to be worked out. In my opinion, all they need is a HoT that generates combat support when it ticks. If they had that, their ammo/heat issues would be solved, and there would be less busy work. I've posted feedback suggesting it, so hopefully they listen!

I've healed on my trooper into the mid 20's and on the premade server in the 40's. I haven't noticed any real "behind the curve" issue. Different classes are different, each has abilities that the other doesn't, and it will take people more than one beta weekend, or more than a month or two in beta to figure out what the best ways to play on the class are. And of course, they're still making changes to spells and talents on top of that.

Personally, I think this is a result of "Grass is greener" syndrome more than anything. Everyone wants what the others have, especially this early in a game's life when they think they can get it changed if they whine loud enough.

Play what you want to play because you think the story and the character will be fun.

I agree, this is always something to consider when balancing a class. I tried to avoid it when presenting the classes in my original post. My highest level (and first) healer was a sorceror, so in that sense, the other two were inevitably compared to the "standard" set by the sorceror.

I don't think it's strictly a case of grass is greener between mercenary and sorceror. Mercenary really is in need of a HoT, and better yet, a HoT that generates combat support so that heat issues are also solved. Operative just needs a direct AoE heal. Then I would say the classes are all good, but in different ways.

bump cuz this is an awesome post. someone should make one for (i don't wanna say DPS and tank but) dps and tank

  11. #51
My next project is to make a similar post for the tanks. I'm currently leveling them to a decent enough level to get a good "feel" on their styles, though. I don't think one person alone could compare all the DPS, though. That's a lot of different specs to test. My roommate and I could probably split them, but it's not something I'm really motivated to do.

Sooo which healer is most like a Resto Druid; great mobility, speed boosts, instants, no long cast times etc Thanks, amazing write up! I'm between the Operative and the Saga! :P

My friend has been trying to keep that issue front-and-center there as well. We're appalled at the thought of healing without it. Amazingly, some people argue vehemently against it (and every other convenience).

Anyway, good review. It was helpful to me and I'll probably link it for guildies. Feel free to update if you get more insight/info

Because it is just that. A convenience, yes i wont be sad if they add it in the game but a lot of supporters are acting like it is impossible to heal without it which is simple not true. If its missing people will learn and adapt.

Yes, they will adapt like it's 1999. I know that. If we couldn't strafe left/right, we'd adapt to turning only too.

It's essentially the difference between an extra click for each heal. If you think it's no big deal, you won't see what the problem is. If you have racked up hundreds or more hours healing and a hundred-thousand mouse-clicks, you might really appreciate the extra "convenience."

Mmmhmm. For you DPSers, imagine a boss where there are 8 adds, and you have to constant target switch to each one while keeping them all at the same amount of health. Now imagine THAT everytime you play, no matter what you are fighting (I am using 8 because that is the largest group size currently). That's a lot of extra clicking around and hecticness added in for no reason. Hope you have a mouse with a good left clicker...

But, I always had clicked on my grid in the 25 man raids in Heroic ICC raids. It never bothered me none. I found, they only reason I didn't like mouse-overs was cause I am constantly moving my mouse all over the screen. Ready to target an enemy for a free hit, constantly bringing my mouse OFF grid so I will be able to turn on a dime if I need to move in a split second; so I never really settled into mouse-overs, because I needed to click on my target in order for me to hit it while being ready to move at an instant's notice.

I guess I can understand why people need the ability to mouse over, but it's never gone over well with me. I don't care if it's in or not, but I don't like it when people tell me I'm bad because I click-heal. A "good" healer is ready to heal a target before they get hurt, proactive casting. So, clicking doesn't hinder my abilities, I still hang with the best. Also, to proactively respond to the sure-to-be-asked question, "what if someone gets hit that shouldn't", I say to you: I was a raid leader all through wrath. And as much raid awareness healers have (should have), couple that with having to call out people, and you have Big Brother's little brother.

Anyways...I can't wait to try healing in SWTOR. I feel the biggest qualm I'm going to have is not having a grid like mod. It pretty much made the entirety of the targets unit frame AS their health bar. Very easy to notice. I like big things, like phones with big numbers, so I can push them easily.
