It means if you are not interested in overclocking, it's doubtful you could get a lot better at all, barring turbo modes.

In other words, it's enough for Wow, but will be lacking in other games.

I can't give you any specific number but I can tell you (from experience) that you can raid 25 man with very acceptable FPS/performance with an i3-2120+6850 (you can usually get an 6870 for not much more and a decent boost in performance) with the usual lowered settings like shadows, AA etc.

Which of these builds do i need to play skyrim smoothly with a nice high FPS, at good settings (above average, but no need for max) ?

I have Skyrim nearly maxed out (turned one of the AA settings down just one notch to 8x I believe) and I get 60 fps almost constantly on a resolution of 1920x1080.

    I have an i5-2500K@4.4GHz and a GTX 560 Ti OC'd to 950MHz Core clock.

I'd say you'd get the same or very similar, perhaps better results, from the gaming $800 build, and higher will only achieve better results.

How well can the 400 build handle WoW in 25 man raids, on low settings and decent/high settings? I have played WoW for the last 6 years on low, so tuning down everything except particle density isn't a huge problem.

The $400 build should handle WoW on medium settings with no real issue.

For Skyrim specifically I would recommend going with nVidia. More so, I'd recommend waiting for the 660 Ti.

This is a good point, due to it being optimized more for NVidia, however don't AMD's newer GPUs handle it pretty damn well?

I max it with my 7970, but I got a solid 55-60 fps with heavy mods and AA at x2 (?) with my 560 Ti as well (2560x1440).

Yeah, just throw enough processing power at a game and it doesn't matter what hardware it is optimized for.

I have about 7 or 8 graphically intensive mods and my 560 Ti handles it like I stated above, pretty damn flawlessly at 1920x1080. I'll get my graphics settings hold on....

    AA 8
    AF 8
    Texture qual high
    radial blur qual med
    shadow high
    decal qual high
FXAA is unchecked (should I check this? lol)
    All water things checked.

    View distance:

    Object fade: 7
    Light fade: 25
    Actor fade: 6
    Item fade: 4
    grass fade: 3
    specularity fade: 9
    distant obj detail: high
objc detail fade is not checked.

When I first installed and opened Skyrim, it said it wanted to run the game on absolute max, I chose to not do that because I remember hearing how tough it was even on 570s, but I do wonder how it would perform totally maxed out.

Thanks. Could you suggest a different motherboard around the same pricing that would work with the 400 build, I can't find the ASRock H61M-DGS from any UK suppliers.

Maybe you could find that? All the other motherboards cheaper were from companies I don't trust. Biostar, EliteGroup, MSI (never hear anything good about their mobos).

    It's about $15 more expensive, so. =S

    Asrock H61M-VS - £35
    Asrock H61M/U3S3 - £54
    MSI H77MA-G43 - £67

Any of these, depending on how much you're willing/able to spend.

You'll get more performance on the 680 on most titles, but it's not like a big performance difference. You might want to get a bigger psu than a 550W for it though.

A 550w PSU will have no issues with one 680.

A 300W PSU with a strong enough 12V rail would have no problems running an LGA1155+GTX 680 computer (good luck finding one though).

Just Google a guide for your specific motherboard.
