The good folks over at NC Soft has just posted some new info about combat in their upcoming game Guild Wars 2. I tell you this because they were kind enough to enlist my services as a cartoonist to create a couple of strips to accompany this information. These were a blast to make and I’ve been looking forward to sharing them with you.

It has so many players that ANet/NCSoft had halted the sales of digital copies labeling them "Out of stock" on virtually every online (and physical) store.

ANet announced they did it to maintain the quality of experience for the people already playing the game. I don't know how they underestimated the amount of hype (and consequently the huge flood of players) for their own game.

I believe sales are activated again, but still, I spend 90% of my time in overflow servers and almost every server seems to be full.
    They seriously need more servers.
Preferably located on West coast to give us Oceanic players better latency :P

Not yet, nope. Least not in Europe.

They have added a box where you can fill in your email, though, and they'll send you a mail once you can purchase once more. Not sure if it's new or if it's always been there, but it's a really nice touch.

They only disabled buying GW2 from their actual website, you were always able to buy it from other sources.

Every one and their moms seems to have bought the game. I would bet there must be more than million copies sold. Here in sweden it seems to be sold out in many places. Cant complain, the game is pure epicness so why shouldnt you buy it =)

I believe it was pulled from "Nether Regions" magazine.

I heard mostly rumors that there are like 1 mil on eu only. I know the numbers will grow after the digital version is unlocked again.
Worldwide or in NA? I am guessing at least 1 mil in europe, NA and Asia each. Probably closer to 2 mil in NA. The limiting factor right now is server capacity.

Unless Anet post some number no one will ever know and anything you read on the internet will be speculation and rumors.

Direct digital sales have been temporarily disabled due to server stability issues though the game is still available from physical stores.

It doesn't have 4 million active users, at least be realistic guys. You sound just like the people in the SWtOR forums a few days after it released....

I think I'd rather get the proof that they said it was .001% of the playerbase.

Wasn't that in one of the ones on reddit?

McDonalds sells a lot more food than Olive Garden. That does not mean McDonalds food is better.

No clue, but I'm going to say maybe 4 million world wide. Just a guess. Seems like a lot of people are playing it, so that number wouldn't surprise me.

Ugh, don't ask my kids that. They would knife each other over a happy meal.

Glytch, the reason that your math is off is that multiplying .001% by 1000, brings it up to 1%. So what you're saying is that 4 million is 1% of the GW2 population. Therefore, 400 million is 100% of the population, going by those numbers.

It's possible that the dev mis-spoke, and meant to say "one-thousandth" (which is technically 0.1%) rather than .001%, or even exagerrated and simply meant "It's a miniscule part of the population," of course, but it's worth noting the flaw in your math.
I hope you haven't forgotten my role in this little story. I'm the leading man. You know what they say about the leading man? He never dies.

If you give in to your impulses in this world, the price is that it changes your personality in the real world. The player and character are one and the same.

All I know is that if they are sure they hit another sales milestone, I'm willing to bet they wouldn't wait to announce it to continue to drive excitement and generate more news articles. I wouldn't be surprised if they have data that suggests they've hit that sales milestone but they're waiting for confirmation on it before announcing to make sure they don't have any accidents.
