Remember: It doesn't matter if YOU don't think it's an exploit, it doesn't matter if WE don't think it's an exploit, it only matters if ANet thinks it's an exploit. Considering their often ruthless approach to dealing with rule breakers, I would always err on the side of caution and not engage in any gray area activities.

    2) EVERYONE can do this. Pretty sure when its a simple mechanic that anyone can do to benefit from, its not unfair. Thats like saying its unfair because i got Ori from transmuting Mithril, because you just didnt do it yet.
    See previous answer.

    3) Its not exactly a closely guarded secret of the hacking and goldselling community. This kind of mechanic has been widely known since day1.

Same thing was said by people buying millions of karma weapons for 21 points each. You can't justify exploits.

It'll catch up to them in the end. No reason to cheat in this game as we'll be playing it for a long time to come. (At least I will be.)

I find it difficult to say its a punishable offense. Ori in particular is one of those grind materials, infact pretty much all Exotic gear at lv80 is just a big grind. Dont be surprised when people use game mechanics to maximize their grinding. Afterall, its not a bug or anything, this system is working as intented by its design. Now they might reconsider its design, or say "F it, when we get rid of free transfers the problem solves itself".

If it works with guesting, then either they should disable it or once again accept the fact that when you tell your playerbase they need to grind they will do so in the most efficient and profitable way within the games mechanics.
Just because they didn't ban anyone doesn't mean it isn't unintended. "I'm not gonna get banned? Well that's all I needed to know! *Exploits the hell out of the feature*"

See my signature for relevance. People can know it's wrong, but as long as they know they won't be punished, the weak will do it anyway.

What you call weak, I call smart. If you aren't gonna get punished for this - why would you not do it and get behind. Morality is a tough sell when talking video games.

Exploit, pure and simple. They'll be caught, they'll face the consequences eventually; Arenanet have stated explicitly over and over again that just because the mechanics allow you to do it, it doesn't mean it isn't an exploit.

Well since this is an exploit.

An exploit, in video games, is the use of a bug or glitches, rates, hit boxes, or speed, etc. by a player to their advantage in a manner not intended by the game's designers.
I would guess that it is since I doubt it was intended by Arena Net. However, since I am not Arena Net, I cannot say for sure that it is or that it isn't.

Though it's most probably not intended. It's hardly "use of a bug or glitches, rates, hit boxes, or speed, etc".
transfer - is legit feature - nothing is exploited here
mining - is legit feature - and mining is done in a legit way without any exploiting.

    So not an exploit.

The 21 karma weapons - was an exploit - because the price was wrong - i.e. a bug.

They banned people for ruining the economy once, they'll do it again.

Honestly, there are much better ways to make money than server hopping to Ori farm. It's not even smart, it's just people who have never really been good at economics and are more suited to farming for money. In the end, lower Ori prices help me, so these guys tanking the price of Ori benefits me. But I also know it's only temporary too.

whenever some one says its a clever use of mechanics, its an exploit.

server transfers are not to allow you to abuse spawning of ores. Orch-ore is supposed to be rare, using a window of free transfers to give yourself an advantage in materials and money is an exploit. We saw what happened to karma exploiters, guess what will happen to these people.

if it looks too good to be true, it probaly is, report it to Anet and dont abuse it, or at least dont QQ when the ban hammer falls.

"Clever use of game mechanics" was a term that Blizzard used for exploits that they wouldn't ban people for using. Since we seem to have a lot of WoWers, they seem to think that an exploit is only something that you will get banned for. It's really just Blizzard's distinction between ban worthy exploit and non ban worthy exploit.

Quite clearly an exploit, there's no grey area. Its an oversight that wasn't intended.

An advantage gained by a non-intentional feature = an exploit.

It's so much easier to convert a stack of Mithril in to Orichalcum though...

Switching servers for profit is always an exploit

No it wasn't. What you mean to say is 'Clever use of game mechanics' is the excuse exploiters use to excuse themselves of the wrong they have done. If they exploit and think it was smart they call it 'Clever use of game mechanics'.

Clever use of game mechanics has always referred to using game mechanics in interesting ways to get advantageous results (In any scenario).
An exploit on the other hand refers to people abusing mechanics, which were never intentional, to get massive advantages which ends up trivialize whatever subject or part of the game you are exploiting.

A bug can even mean an unintentional oversight that gives an advantage.

While nodes resetting when you change server was probably just an oversight, the fact that people are changing servers over and over to cash in on this oversight makes it an exploit.
They are exploiting an oversight for easy money.

Getting guild rep for repeatable quests (In WoW) was an oversight.
People exploiting the oversight for incredibly quick level25 guilds made in an exploit, unintentional or not.

It's an exploit, indisputably. Crafting nodes are attached to your character. Only your character can gather from them, and once gathered, cannot be re-gathered until they respawn. Switching servers is exploiting game mechanics. It is simply an oversight made by Arena-net.

In all honesty, I was doing this with overflow servers to farm copper. I'd re-log and all the copper would reappear, though it was for crafting rather than profit, but meh.

I'd say do it for 10mins, then never do it again. Minor exploiting will go unpunished, or at worse, 3 day ban. The largest exploiters will likely be perma-banned.
