Question So i got a new computer on order/being made

Coolermaster CM Storm Trooper Enforcer computer case! (Yes its real: http://www.techspot.com/review/461-c...storm-trooper/)
    Intel i7 3770
    Asus Sabretooth X79 Skt2011
    Geil 32GB Mods
    Ati radeon 7950
    Coolermaster 600 Watt PSU
    Kingmax 240GB SSD
    Windows 7

Im just wondering if the specs that have been quoted to me is a good and worthy computer to have at 2.3k AU

If you want to overclock, you want a 3770K or 3570K plus a cooler. An I7 won't be of much help if you're gaming, and a i5-3570 is cheaper.

That CPU and Motherboard are not compatible. You will need a H77/Z77 mobo with the 3770 or you would want a 3820/3930/3960 to go with the X79 board. There is also far too much RAM in that build, 8GB is more than enough for gaming, and 16GB would be overkill. You could do much better for that price.

As Trekk pointed out, the motherboard uses LGA2011, while your CPU uses LGA 1155.

ATI haven't made GPU's since the 4xxx series.

ATI is now called AMD, which is basicly the same, but Inux is right.

Dude, just make your own thread in the subforum, we're going to be much more helpful than your friend if he's recommending a LGA 2011 motherboard on a LGA 1155 CPU.

You would need an i7 3820 for that board and its not worth it for gaming! Get an i5 3570k and an Asus Maximux V Forumula for the same price and it will destroy

Great boards for sure but the Maximus board is just insane. If Overclocking is your niche there unbeatable

You should see if you can get your money back. Not only does that motherboard have the wrong socket for your CPU like many people have said, but it's incredibly overpriced. If you are only going to game on it, you won't need anything more than a 3570K. I wouldn't pay more than $850 for a gaming computer.

Also for a case, try the new Storm Scout 2. It looks far less obnoxious.

I just put together a build on newegg for $900 less, the only difference between yours and the one I made is that mine has Windows 8 Professional 64-bit since why not.

so what did he actually give you? either way, you overpaid and got a normal processor with a Z77 board which is ... interesting. should have got a K processor or saved $100 and got an H77 motherbaord

also 32gb is way overkill, even 16gb is a lot

Just remember to tell him, it's him who's paying for a new CPU when he's breaking the 3770 trying to install it, because the sockets won't match.

    No, they definitely WILL NOT...

The i7 3770 is a LGA 1155 socket as detailed here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116502 which means it has a total of 1155 pins. That means it requires a motherboard with 1155 pins like these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ame=LGA%201155

The Asus Sabretooth X79 Skt2011 has a LGA 2011 socket as detailed here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131801, which means it is meant for CPUs with 2011 pins. It is meant for CPUs like these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ame=LGA%202011

Your "computer guy Shane" does not know what he's talking about if he's reassuring you they are compatible, regardless of how "rushed" he was in responding... The socket on that motherboard is meant for CPUs almost twice the size of yours: http://i.imgur.com/LWE03.jpg (the CPU on the left in this picture is a 2011 CPU, the CPU on the right is the size of your CPU). If you try to force the 3770 you bought into the motherboard you bought, not only will you break one or both of the components, the store you bought them from will refuse to refund them because the error was your fault.

But hey, we're just strangers on the Internet with decades of combined IT and computer building experience, what do we know?

If it will actually fit in any way, that'd be because you meant the Z77 motherboard.

  19. #19
Ask him to confirm, without typos, which CPU you are getting, and which motherboard you are getting.

If it is the Z77 Sabertooth motherboard, these are the two CPUs you should be choosing between (OK there are others but these are the main ones):

    Intel Core i5 3570K LGA 1155
    Intel Core i7 3770K LGA 1155

If it is the X79 Sabertooth, the three CPUs that will fit in it are:

    Intel Core i7 3820 LGA 2011
    Intel Core i7 3930K LGA 2011
    Intel Core i7 3960X LGA 2011

LGA 2011 and LGA 1155 are totally incompatible with one-another.

Just let the guy receive his parts and we'll see what happens when he tries to fit them together : /
    I'm definitely curious.
