I thought all Americans knew communism was inherently evil! It is fantastic that you actually stay informed rather than going "Obama 2012!!" or "Romney will save us!". As a religious person, I think religion should stay completely separate from political views, but as we both know that is rarely the case.

Just noticed that 'supporting anything but the republican party' bit Deca, do Americans talk about politics a lot?
Because here and in NZ no one talks about politics to the point of finding out which party someone else supports, you might mention the prime ministers most recent action but I don't know anyone around mes political affiliation and they don't know mine, just 'cause no one tells each other.

Ah, well, I tend to not watch the news and I base my political beliefs on what I learn from objective teachers and from my own personal ethical guidelines, and relatively unbiased sources. I have to agree with you with secularism, but as you said, it isn't happening currently (in the U.S. at least), and I don't have high hopes of it happening in our lifetimes or in the near future.

Yes, very much so. I've seen people get into fights and I've seen people put in hospitals over political conversations. I've personally been kicked out of stores for casually mentioning to my friend (very quietly) about my political beliefs, and I've gotten a few death threats and people have even pulled knives on me before. It can get REALLY bad around election time.
