I would never let my 12 year old kids play multiplayer games. Unless you can cut communication with other people. Very unappropiate. If you hear what's being said on xbox live in for example CoD lobbies :P. Same in WoW.
I actually had a guy get on me for being nice once. It was a random pug and the druid tank must've had a bad day or something cause he started yelling (read: typing in all caps) at one of the dps for buttpulling a group he was trying to skip. Me and the ret pally started telling the druid to be nice, and its not like he did it on purpose. The druid started talking down to us and after we wouldn't cave in and kept being nice he put us on ignore. All in all I enjoyed the experience. heh, some people are just bad through and through.
I've been in several guilds who require 18+ as a sign of membership. Once you're over that age by a bit its easy to tell if someone is underage or not. And physical age is less important than mental age. The numbers can be completely different. We've had 15 and 16 year olds in the guild occasionally and they were always allowed to stay because they acted like adults. Basically requiring a guild to be 18+ just means that you have to act mature and stuff like that.
I, personally, am 28, and have been playing this game since 2007. I was born when the president was Ronald Regan. I definitely am glad MMO's didn't exist. . .(well they did, but I didn't play them before wow). . .when I was in school. I probably would have made worse grades because of it.
You won't have to worry unless you're sending pornographic images, transmitting sexually suggestive images/videos over the internet, or meeting up in real life to perform sexual acts.
As a rule of thumb, I never chat up somebody I've never met in real life. Prevents a whole lot of stress, trouble, and unpleasant surprises.
Always find it amusing with guild that saying we are "18+" or "21+" or what ever.
I think people should be judged by how they behave, not by their age.
I was Guild Master for a rather big guild (150+) for over seven years and I have met people over 30 behave like 8 year olds, and 11 year old kids behave very mature.
We have always had a "If you cant behave, you cant stay" policy. Age, color, sex or shoe size shouldnt matter. If you cant behave as an adult, then you are history.
And on a side note. One of my best friend has a son, that was 13 years old at the time, and managed to join a "20+" guild, and even become a CL. They still dont know..
Kids today won't be traumatized by sex comments or anything like that, they probaly learned it on the internet a long time ago
So... OP... you got the game to hit on girls? Because if not, it shouldn't matter that said girl was 12. So what, you think that she hasn't heard adult like jokes until now? You don't know kids these days then.
But if the answer is yes... maybe you should rethink your strategy.
i never really cared what i said in chats, thats mainly cause 99% of what i post couldnt "scar" these childeren anyway and the 1% i do say only scars them as much as their non-online life would do.
people are just too oversenitive about these things.
also about people hitting on others through chat im like wut? why would you do such a thing, you dnt know a thing about them and base it around their char model.
i mean okay if you know the others age and you talk through some voice chat. but beside that why would you do such a thing o.O?
Why not? They make this game more interesting and always manage to humour me was it on purpose or not. However I'd rather not play competitive PvP or high end PvE with young people, there are exceptions though, but in general. Not that I have anything particular against them, let's just say that they can be a little...unstable sometimes.

I don't understand your view, what difference does it make if you made a joke or not?
This is a game that's rated 13+, a lot of players are sadly much younger then that.., but get real, we're way past 1950, and if people want to stay completely ignorant to the fact that the internet have no age difference, then they should stay off the internet.
Same for any parents reading this, if you want your children to be complete unexposed to what might happen on line, keep them off the internet or places where "inappropriate" jokes etc might occur, don't go all Martha Steward on this subject, just be realistic.
On line you can be friends with everyone.., if you find you've got something you both find interesting or share a passion for, who honestly gives a flying chipmunk what age they are irl.
well... :/ it amazes me more that people 30+ plays than 13- to be hornest. i'm 19 and have been playing since i was 14 myself.
but i do agree, i'm pretty annoyed by the 14 years old kids in my guild myself
dude have you even realized the crazy shit thats on tv every time of the day ?
no the scary thing is not you making an inapropriate joke....the scary thing is that there is nothing you could have said that she/he hasnt heard already...(with the exception of some really messed up stuff )
that being said i do understand what you are trying to say. just ask for age before the discussion becomes friendly..
