    Need a new Motherboard/CPU.

    Hello folks!

Would like some help in getting a new motherboard/CPU.

I'm just looking to see to move everything I have inside my computer onto a new motherboard with a better CPU.

Incase your wondering what I got inside is.

    Vidcard GeForce GTX 550 Ti
    Memory: 2x 4gig Ram sticks 2x 2gig ram sticks (They are DDR3)
    Power supply: EArthWatts Model EA-650

My case is very Big. So i'm sure I could fit a new motherboard in it very easy like.

Incase your wondering my Motherboard is an Asus P5P43TD (Has LGA775 socket Reason why i'm getting a new motherboard)

Hopefully I get somthing for cheap...

    ((Aiming to play Dishonored... ))

*is confused on what you said... *

Maybe give me a few links of said motherboards/cpu's for an example? =3

    Z77 is the motherboard chipset.

2500k and 3570k are two different CPUs. The 2500k was the previous generation (Sandy Bridge) top end Core i5 (mid-range) part. The 3570k is the current generation (Ivy Bridge) top end Core i5.

For what its worth, now is an awesome time to upgrade your CPU if you live somewhere with a Micro Center.

Original retail price was 219$ which is what I spent building two new machines.

What's your budget? A decent CPU for gaming is going to be roughly 150$ or so. A motherboard will be roughly 80$. There's a lot of options at 200$ for CPU, and 120$ for motherboard. It depends on what your plans are, aside from playing dishonored. Does this need to last a long time, or just hold you over until summer?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1100520 would do you perfectly fine.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116504 is the CPU from the above combo. Any mobo from http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...0%28LGA1155%29 should work with it if you wanted to shop around a bit.

Ordered numerous things from newegg with good results, and they are having some nice sales this week, changing daily and of course Black Friday stuff so you can check for deals as the week goes on.

perhaps any relatives/connections you can use to get that deal at a microcenter? ( for $99,99 that is a serious steal and you can get a motherboard for the money you saved > same result +-$120 less spent)

Depending on your budget, we'd recommend different things.

The standard would be a i5-3570K with a Z77 motherboard for a total of roughly $350. Recommended Z77 motherboards include: ASUS P8Z77-V LK, ASRock Extreme4, Gigabyte UD3H, and Biostar TZ77XE3. This is the 'recommended' build level for most gaming computers priced $800 or more.

For computers priced around $500-$700, you'd go with an i3-3220 with a H77 motherboard for a total of roughly $200. Recommended H77 motherboard manufacturers include: ASRock, Gigabyte and ASUS. Check form factors for H77 motherboards because many of them are Micro ATX or Mini ITX.

aren't Hxx boards locked out of oc'ing? (or was it just the P boards?)

    Whoops, didn't see it was a non-k i5... that's what I get for a quick search

As far as mobos, a lot is personal preference and price... tossing 3 of the brands out there pigeonholes when it's not needed. For me, I've had nothing but problems with every Gigabyte I have ever had, while other people I know swear by them. I like MSI quite a bit but again, its personal preference as long as it's a Z77 board.

I would never go for an i3 unless I had to (read: computer died or I don't have a job and am running on gift money). It's a fine processor but if you don't URGENTLY need it and you game, you may as well just wait another few weeks or a month to save the money for a i5. OP says he wants a processor/mobo and for 300 to 400 max, he can easily land an i5 2500k or 3570k + mobo. Could get some nicer mobos in the next week if you watch sales / check online Black Friday / Black Monday ads. I know Newegg had the 3570k for 199 earlier this week, and it wouldn't shock me to see it again. That with a ~125 to ~150 mobo puts you at north of 300 but well south of 400.

Man, that makes me wish driving to Denver was worth saving a 100$ but I'd spend at least that in fuel making a two-way trip.
