    Is Video gaming a sport

Doing a college research paper on a argumentative subject. Im looking for people opinions on if video gaming can be considered a sport. Me being a competive junkie when it comes video games. i have competed in tornaments and legues on different variety of games. starcraft, wow arenas, call of duty, and rainbow six and etc. i strongly believe video games is a sport.

    Looking for some good feedback

    Thanks ahead of time

It is a competition, not a sport. And yes, there is a difference.

maybe not an actual sport, but competitive gaming is still an esport, it still takes a great deal of skill and dedication to be the very best.

I wouldn't call it a sport. Being an ex-hardcore raider and a semi-professional swimmer i'd say it's two fundamentally different things.

But then again, people call chess and poker sports.

    Sure, why not..

Next time when someone asks what I'm doing with my spare time, I'll say I'm focusing on a sport.. or on second though, maybe not.

It depends on how you want to put it.

There's "Sport" and then "ESport" which some people like to differentiate.
ESport (Electronic Sport), is just the same as a form of competition as sport.

Sport in history has been considered always having a physical aspect to it all. If you're going by history, no it isn't a sport, if you're going by current day and use, it'd be an ESport.

Both of em provide entertainment to each their viewers, question just becomes do you deem the activity a sport or not.
Personally it's a sport due to modern times, despite never caring about competitions to begin with.

Yes, it could be. Provided the games involved are well balanced so that the player skill is the most important when deciding a winner, not class mechanics, RNG and what not.

ESport is NOT the same as sport, therefore, it is still not a sport.

So I guess for you sport implies a physical focus, right?

No. To me a sport involves physical exertion. Chess, for example, is not a sport, I don't care what anyone else says.

Now, can VGs be played competitively? Sure. But I would not consider it a sport.

That's the way I've always understood the word "sport."

There is no global definition for the word sport.
Most of the times a criteria is: exersice/movement.

I personally don't think you can call gaming a sport.

By the way making a poll on this site isn't probably the best place to get a 'neutral/objective' point of view.

Archery and skateboarding would require athleticism. Darts, not so much. Snooker/Pool/Billiards, no.
