Question Where do spirit dusts come from

Before I thought that primary source for spirit dust was making rings and necklaces from mop green gems and DEing them, but as nerf to node spawn rates came, ghost iron ore and green gem prices went up notably while spirit dust price didn't go up at all.

So where is most of spirit dust coming from these days?

Hmm I maybe worded OP badly, I don't know how to word this... I am wondering how spirit dust price isn't going up even when mop green gem price went up, is about all of the spirit dust coming from disenchanting world/instance drop greens, or is there some other profession that can craft cheap greens for disenchanting.

i farm rare mobs for ethereal shards, disenchant them to dusts and sell if the price is right. Can turn a profit doing that every now and then.

Yes the drop rate for random world greens seems to be quite high - I know I've accumulated a lot of them. Also, depending on your server, windwool cloth seems to be rather cheap compared to other crafting mats so tailoring probably produces the cheapest greens to disenchant. Again... it all depends on your server.

Spirit dust is about 4-6g https://eu.theunderminejournal.com/item.php?item=74249
Mysterious essence is about 30-35g https://eu.theunderminejournal.com/item.php?item=74250
Ethereal shard is about 75-80g https://eu.theunderminejournal.com/item.php?item=74247

Glad that it works for you, but in grand scheme of thing I don't think rare mob drops affect much on spirit dust price.

I get over two stacks from the farm. Though gold wise it is better to grow herbs because of golden lotus. My toon with little bag space grows the enchanting mats to not deal with the space hassle and mailing.

Random mob drops is also a source and with a lot of players doing dailies, they are going to pop up. It is more of a surprise to me that ethernal shards are going down with not much players needing to run heroics anymore. Maybe the aspect of having to farm a lot more of them until cap is having a hand.

Also some herbs went down on my high pop server while some others went up notably. No clue if it is due to an uneven spread of herb demand and/or where the herbs are found.

Windwool cloth is about 1g60s ea (on average like all numbers on this thread) https://eu.theunderminejournal.com/item.php?item=72988
It takes 15 windwool cloth (24g) to create green bracers http://www.wowhead.com/item=82402
while it takes 3 green gems+1g vendor item (13-19g) to create green for disenchanting http://www.wowhead.com/item=83793#disenchanting
and on top of that JC item seems to give more dusts from disenchanting.

So I don't think that tailoring items knock off JC items when it comes to price-efficent source of enchanting mats.

Supply side= whatever people have stockpiled+ what people farm+ goldfarmers+ bots

Prices fluctuate on spirit dust because its not a stable item and people selling it are often just dumping. It generally means they take what they can get because they have already made their money back with blue gems and want to save the space in the ah. They need the space.
