You don't *have* to, but it's a good idea, so you already know what your character is like, what he/she likes or dislikes etc. Think of it as being an actor in a play without a script really.

Not in WoW no - I've often considered moving a char or two to an RP server though. However I often RP in various pnp groups - great fun!

I tend to drift off into my own little world when I'm RPing. I just go up to random people, its extremely funneh to see their reactions to it.

Its also fun running through SW as a horde on a PvP realm dressed as a farmer screaming "MY CROPS GROW FASTER THAN YOURS" in alliance tongue... Its normally not recommended that you do this thinking you'll come out alive

RPing in WoW is an extremely fun past time, especially once you delve in to it. You find how easy it is to create a diverse, epic adventure in less than an hour, and time seemingly passes on without you even knowing it. In short, it is very fun, and you should try it. It works really simply, as has been said above, you are pretty much BEING the character, without a script or even set goal, though you can make one if you wish to.
Also, Narissa... LOL! That sounds so epic.
