Exclamation Internet porn effects on society?

Before the internet it was actually semi difficult for minors to get their hands on a porn magazine. However, now it is all to easy for a child of any age to search up porn on the internet. I know parents are supposed to guard against this with content locks and limiting their children's time on the web. But lets be honest with ourselves the kids of today know far more about computers than their parents do. Probably because they are growing up in a computer age while their parents didn't.

What scares me is the potential long term effects this could have on society. When I went to school it was a rare occasion that someone would bring a porno magazine to school. Now that stuff is considered completely tame. When you have that many sexual images at your fingertips you are eventually are going to get bored with the regular stuff and start searching for more risky, more exciting, and more forbidden stuff. I believe this creates a downward spiral for our youth in today's modern society.

But it's not a porn link nor is it describing any sexual act in detail. It is pointing out a potential problem.

It provides bad sexual education for teenagers who don't get it from a proper source, and follow on effects from this. That's about it.

    Hmm... I'm not sure, honestly.

It could have a negative effect, but then again it could change very little. Our society/culture has changed so much in the past 10-20 years that isolating JUST internet pornography's effects would be nearly impossible.

I expect you'll have a lot of angry people arguing about freedom of information in this thread or perhaps asserting that is the parent's responsibility to block their children from reaching those sites (not arguing that either of those notions are wrong), but it is hard to deny that pornography is far, far more available (especially free of charge) in today's world than it was even 25 years ago. The questions are really just "what did/does it change" and "how can you prove it?".

This is okay as long as it doesn't get graphic. Obviously you are going to get banned if you start linking sites or pictures or describing sexual acts in great detail, but other than that, it should be fine (for now).

It can become an addiction and addictions are very, very, very, very, very bad.

Doesn't a 'spank bank' lessen sexual violence? I don't remember.

porn in general. I didn't mean just internet porn. Internet porn increases the amount of porn addictions though, because of the ease of access.

Oh really that's it? Then I guess this professor that studied it and was on television talking about its effects on people is just completely wrong.

Porn sites should all end in .xxx instead of .com or whatever then people can block certain domains.

Meh. Supposition without facts. Any studies you see that come out of "For The Family Association" or whatever will likely point at this, but in reality? No.

You know what causes "unhealthy attitudes toward sex?" Poor sexual education in school, and the repressive nature of not talking about sex. You know what's refreshing? Watching some youtube channels that are done by sexual health-type folks who legit talk about porn and sex and human interaction. Saying "Porn is bad, and really bad for children" is ignorant and generalist nonsense.

I'm in my 30's now, and honestly it was just as easy for me to get my hands on porn in the late 80's early 90's (aka before internet), as it is now-a-days. People just need something to blame for their short-comings as parents if you ask me.

There are a lot of things way worse than porn on the internet, lmao. Porn has absolutely nothing to do with the problems in today youth.
These aren't the spoilers you're looking for.

    Move along.

Um sorry, but nothing without breaking the law ruins a life better than an addiction.

But the trick is proving that those people would not have instead gotten addicted to other things that are just as bad if not worse.

I do admit that it definitely seems to increase people's expectations but probably not more than Hollywood does. Friends of mine call TV stars/supermodels "ugly" and every time they do, I immediately facepalm IRL (which is annoyingly difficult with glasses, but I manage). I mean seriously? Chances are 1 in 10000 that you are going to marry somebody who is better looking than people who can spend millions on plastic surgery. My response is usually "did you hear the words that just left your mouth? really?"

An interesting article to read about this very subject, but based on how it affects males.

*SCRATCH* - will find the proper article.

Zimbardo is a very interesting guy in psychology.

Edit: Here is a direct link to the website that talks about the book, and has a video of Zimbardo's video from Ted Talks.

I don't really see an issue with that. Raise your child well, don't let them unfettered access to the computer. I don't really think it's damaging for a 14 year old to occasionally catch glimpses of pornography. I did, and it didn't cause me to go out and impregnate a bunch of adolescent girls.
'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
    All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!
