    Building new computer

Looking to build a new computer and I haven't kept up on tech lately. I need some ideas for components and such. My budget is about 1000-1200 dollars. Gimme some ideas. I want it to be mainly for gaming, so gimme some good specs. Thanks.

Are you in need of monitor/windows?

Nope. I have windows 7 and I have all the other components for the computer. The tower I have now still works, I am just looking to upgrade.

I was looking at just getting an Alienware desktop, but all in all, building your own desktop can save quite a bit of money.

Yes, you will save alot of bucks and have extended warranty on single items. Better parts/performance as you get to choose different brands of hardware.

Very nice, may want to go with some lower profile RAM and a bigger/better Aftermarket cooler depending on if you want to OC it or not. Thought waht is there is fine for a mid-range OC.

Thanks, I'll take a look at it all.

However, you don't have a case or a dvd/cd drive on it, was that on purpose? o.o

You can recycle your dvd drive or never actualy need one if you instal your os with a usb !

Well I am most likely selling this current tower with all it has for some money to fund the new one. So a drive wouldn't hurt. Especially for if I buy PC games that use a cd to install. Even though I download most games now via steam.

Shaved a few $ off with a couple switches of parts from Toffie's build.

    http://pcpartpicker.com/p/xANu

Puts the build right under the $1200 mark.

Why exactly did you put a crucial m4 ? The samsung 830 is quite better.

Again, I was switching things that wont make a ton of difference to get the build under the original budget.

Also, any SSD is outrageously fast compared to a HDD. (which is what most people come from)

Question. Is the SSD necessary with a 1tb hard drive....or....what? Like I said, I'm a little outta the loop on tech stuff nowadays....so...yeah.

Oh and update to Toffie, the build you gave me with the case, it says that the case is not compatible because of no slots for front usb ports....or something to that effect.

The SSD is totally worth it. Basically, it speeds up everything that takes load time.

Now, in the builds that are posted above, you could drop the SSD to 128GB. This would save you a bit more $.

The thing about the case is that the front panel doesn't have USB3.0, though the MB has the header for it. Really not a big deal.

How is that? It's under $1100 and shouldn't be too bad. I thought about getting a sound card, but my headphones are usb and the mb should have integrated sound, right?

  17. #17
USB headsets have their own soundcard built in.

Drop the 750W PSU down to something around 550W and get a 128GB SSD or you will bash your head in later on when it gets full from windows and 1 game alone.

When I have a 1tb hard drive? What do you think I am going to be putting on the SSD honestly...?

If you are smart all your programs. You put your files, pictures, music on the HDD.

Well most people put their programs on the SSD and 2-4 games. I'm struggling with my 120GB SSD and will be looking to get a 256GB as well.
