It did have a nasty dent on it though. And it was spherical.

Some of the improvement could also come from just re-seating the heat sink and applying new thermal paste.

Nah, last time i did it was 2months ago. Only applied Mx-4 instead of mx-3 this time.
And the lapping was just a fun experience.

Possibly did his thermal paste better as well - definitely would need less after lapping (as the paste is supposed to fill gaps, which are now lessened after lapping).

ed - n0c beat me to it, while I was listening to some interesting stuff...

Thought I'd get a few photos up of my setup at uni (on my ridiculously small) desk. Apologies for the mess and the poor picture quality, got a lot of work on atm and I wasn't in the mood for tidying up before I took the photos!

    Build:
    Mobo: Asus Sabertooth 990FX
    CPU: AMD FX-8320 @ 4.0GHz
CPU-cooling: Stock atm, sadly I have to change H100i to H80i as it didnt fit the case =/ But will be H80i, rear-mounted (exhaust)

    GPU: Sapphire HD7970 GHz-edition Vapor-X

In 1-2 month I will get white sleeves, and sleeve all my cables, is the plan

    The new parts

Mobo and ram inside Define R3, testing to mount the H100i

Really, really close fit with the RAM's

But the problem was the heatsinks on motherboard.. sadly enough. So returning it.

Doubt he has much room on that stock cooler

Looking really good! Really nice pictures as well.
Unsure if it'd fit with the Define R4, but either way, the H80i is acceptable as well.

You'd be suprised, the stock AMD FX cooler is the same quad heatpipe design from the old AM3 Phenoms, and it can do mild OC fairly well. Nothing mind blowing obviously but 0.2-0.3ghz easily. Nowhere near a D14, but almost even with a 212, i'll have to find and link the review/comparison I read awhile back on it. That and the FX chips put out very little heat anyways, OCed to 4ghz my 8150 barely put out 100f on a Hyper 101.

Yep my cpu to 4.5 , 4.6 need little to much vcore . Here 1.29v and less than 70C° during the linpack stress test so i can put an higher clock but i think it's useless for what i use it ( gaming primarily ) .

Tested some higher clocks on my gpu to see what i can do whit it but i don't need permanent oc for now .

    Ah, good stuff xeru!

If you want to, you should enter the CPU/GPU OC leaderboards that are linked in my signature!
