So WTF is going on with the alliance?

Hi, just was wondering if you lovely alliance kids could fill me in on the details of what alliance is doing in Pandaria. I've been horde for 6 years and recently changed factions to join a new guild. However, I have no idea what the storyline is or where its going! Well, I know some of it, but only from the horde perspective.

I'm an achievement guy so I'll be going hard on the new daily hub but I'd like to know wtf is going on and the who/what/wheres of it all. I'll get to doing the Lion's Landing stuff eventually, but 5.2 is next week and I just don't have time! Anyone got a cliff's notes?

For some reason, Varian puts his son on a warship and sends it into uncharted waters.

The ship gets attacked, Anduin goes missing, Varian wants it found, sends the Alliance players looking for it.

You happen upon Pandaria, the Horde have already set up camp, you start attacking them because... they're Horde.

You find Anduin, he wheels and deals around a bit with you chasing after him

Meanwhile, with the help of other Alliance personalities, you enthrall the Jinyu to the Alliance cause by fighting off the hozen.

You start a gigantic proxy war using the Jinyu, Jade serpent statue is destroyed, Sha of doubt is released

You meet back up with Anduin, helping in the temple of the red crane, doing some stuff in Kun'lai, etc.

Anduin is eventually reunited with Varian.

With the landfall, the Alliance attempts to stem Garrosh's attempt to recover the divine bell.

Jaina tells you she's "forgiven" the Horde for their actions at Theramore in an attempt to keep dalaran neutral.

Anduin convinces Varian not to employ the powers of the Sha as Garrosh seeks to do, Varian agrees.

You obtain the divine bell, Jaina sends it to Darnassus for safe keeping.

The Blood elves sneak into Darnassus to steal the Divine Bell

Jaina goes batshit crazy at the blood elves, expunging them from Dalaran

Anduin reawakens the monkey king to find his staff, which has the power to negate the effects of the divine bell

    You do that

Garrosh has the Divine bell, he attempts to use it to control the Sha, but it overwhelms his soldiers

Anduin intervenes, his body is broken as the bell falls on him.

Anduin is sent back to Lion's landing, Jaina swears revenge (again) on the horde.

And that's where we are right now.

Dude it's not the bell that just falls on him. Garrosh attacks him. That's what shatters his body. He is also not lying under the bell but next to it.

No, he is clearly under the rubble of the Bell.

Uh. No. He's definitely crushed under the rubble of the bell (which, of course, was caused by Garrosh). If he was laying aside it on your screen, then something bugged out for you.

Okay well let me keep this "brief" for the main characters.

    Anduin

    - While being transported on Admiral Taylor's flagship for a diplomatic mission his ship is attacked by the Horde.
    - He eventually runs off as his ship is attacked by Hozen and also wishes to explore Pandaria.
    - Encounters a group of Pandaren who save him and who educate him about the land.
    - He then sets out to seek the Vale of Eternal Blossom to learn about the Water of the Vale and research their healing properties.
    - Goes to meet Chi'ji before the Sha of Despair shows up then ask you to help him restore the Temple.
    - Then he meets Xuen and manages to convince the August Celestials to let both factions into the Vale.
    - Anduin is reunited with his father and warns him about the Alliance and Horde conflict could tear Pandaria apart.
    - Anduin then warns his father that the Temple of the Red Crane should not turn into a war zone because of the Sha.
    - Anduin is later sent to convince Jaina that the Sunreavers could put Dalaran's neutrality in jeopardy and that Garrosh may seek to abuse their position.
    - A fragment of a Sha brought to the Shrine of Seven Stars escapes and begins corrupting Alliance soldiers so the player and Anduin attempt to cleanse the Sha.
    - After the Sha is restrained Anduin convinces the Alliance leaders that it cannot be used as a weapon and only corrupts.
    - When word reaches Anduin that the Horde are seeking the Divine Bell he sets out to find a means to counter it.
    - His research leads him to the Harmonic Mallet and the Monkey King.
    - Finding the Monkey King frozen in Jade and Anduin frees him who then gives the player and Anduin three riddles to earn his trust.
    - The Monkey King then helps gather the parts of the Mallet.
    - Garrosh then put's his plan into actions and plans to start using the Bell so Anduin runs off to confront him.
    - Using the Mallet Anduin neutralises the Bell however Garrosh in response attacks Anduin and the Bell causing it to collapse on him leaving Anduin severely maimed.
    - Varian orders for Velen to be sent to Pandaria to heal Anduin.

    Varian

    - Upon tracking the last known location of Anduin's ship Varian sends the player and a specialist team to Pandaria to rescue him.
    - Upon arriving on Pandaria he is reunited with his Son who tells him that the war could have dire conseqeunces for Pandaria, however Varian assures him this is not a hate war
    - Varian speaks about about how being a King is all about creating a sense of unity among his people after establishing a base.
    - After hearing that Tyrande has engaged Horde forces walled p in the Temple of the Red Crane Varian sets out to oversee the engagement.
    - At the Temple of the Red Crane Varian corrects Tyrande's strategy and order the Alliance forces to wait and to draw the Horde out of the Temple.
    - After defeating the Horde presence at the Temple Varian again speaks about how he would have once charged straight in that since then he's changed.
    - After the Anduin cleanses the Sha infestation at the Shrine of Seven Stars Varian gathers the Alliance leaders to discuss the Sha.
    - After the Sha manifests he asks what Anduin believes about the Sha and after deciding not to use the Sha he destroys it.
    - Varian suspects the Sunreavers may put their loyalties to the Horde above Dalaran and sends Anduin and the player to Dalaran.
    - Somehow Varian caught wind that the Blood Elves were not comfortable with the current Horde and reached out to them to negotiate them rejoining the Alliance.
    - After the Purge of Dalaran has happened Jaina assures Varian that Dalaran will rejoin the Alliance, however Varian claims that Jaina perhaps acted too quickly.
    - After Anduin confronts Garrosh and is brought back to Lion's Landing Varian is angered by Garrosh's actions and claims that he and the Alliance will be the ones who end his reign.

    Jaina

    - Anduin and the players try to negotiate that the Sunreavers are a possible problem for Dalaran due to their loyalty to the Horde.
    - Jaina however assures them that Dalaran will be the example to both factions as both Horde and Alliance live together happily in Dalaran.
    - After the Alliance acquired the Divine Bell Jaina aids them by magically sealing the city from outside threats.
    - However the Horde successfully bypass her defences and steal the Bell.
    - After detecting traces of arcane magic Jaina traces it to a portal to Dalaran.
    - Realising that Varian was right she confronts Aethas about the loyalties of his people and that they put Dalaran's neutrality into jeopardy.
    - After refusing to leave Jaina freezes Aethas and teleports him to the Violet Hold leaving Vereesa in charge of the Purge.
    - Jaina then patrols the street teleporting fleeing Sunreavers to the Violet Hold and retaliating those who attack her by either killing them or weakening them then teleporting them.
    - Jaina the has Dalaran rejoin the Alliance and begins mobilising it for war.
    - After Varian tells her that she perhaps acted to quickly Jaina tells Varian that he's gone soft in his approach to the Horde.
    - After teleporting to Lion's Landing to find Anduin maimed to she angrily states that Dalaran will come down hard on Garrosh.

Good summary, but you keep saying 'lament'.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means, what you think it means.

Lamenting would mean Varian feels remorse / pity / sorrow over it. I dont think he feels particulary bad about his role as a unifying king, or that he's evolved from being a gladitorial hothead to a more levelheaded ruler.

you know you could have read the OP where i said i was going to do them when i had time but with 5.2 so soon I just wanted a primer since I'd be jumping straight into the new hub because while I care about lore I care about my character's progression more.

What's the point of that? The entire storyline has now been given to you, from leveling to 90 to the whole Shieldwall faction. You didn't get a primer; you now know the entire thing.

Or you could read my post that took almost 25 mins to type .

But yes the Alliance story so far has been rather good and is pretty ideal if you're into being and feeling like the "hero".

a less repetitive way to stockpile lesser charms for coins in 5.2 - besides, i only have a passing interest in alliance stuff. i changed sides to raid with a real quality guild, but the superior faction is still horde

and i did read it! it doesn't sound all *that* different from the horde side of things honestly. although i didn't know the alliance approached the blood elves about rejoining the horde - on our side of things they are making a not-so-subtle bid for the war-chief's seat

As others have pointed out concerning watching the story here's Silencer's 5.1 faction quest compilation - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...hyCaxVZzvrlfn_
Just in case you fancy watching it.

The only "major" character I missed out was Agent Connelly, although that's largely because he's a new character who at times feels too gimmicky despite the fact his works do actually have a rather serious side to them.
