    Does Blizzard compromise too much?

"For Mists of Pandaria the quest team originally wanted to do a class quest for every class, but it would have taken as much time as doing an entire zone." From the first page. Anyone else who hates this their way of thinking? That you cannot do anything cool anymore, just because it takes time to develop? To when I saw this Diablo III actually comes to mind. Cut down the game to four tiny acts, just because it would have taken more time to develop.

I really don't see where you're getting at with this.

So Blizzard should have just done class quests and let Pandaria be completely empty?

I understand how you feel but Blizzard is trying to give us content way faster than before, and they can't give us all we want like new quest, new dungeons, new raids, new pets, new transmog options, new features at the same time unless they take their time with it... like what they did after ICC :S

That's not always the way to go. At some point the amount of people will become cumbersome even. Imagine lifting a table.
    One person: It's heavy
Two persons: It's easier to lift.
Four people: very easy to lift.
Eight people: So freaking easy it weighs almost nothing.
12 people: Still light but people can find a convenient spot.
20 people: 16 people struglling for a spot to do their thing and 4 people can't even do anything because there is no room for them.

Same goes with development. At some point the team becomes so big that actions can't be taken anymore because you have to coordinate with so many people that you spend more time coordinating and discussing stuff than actually doing anything.

I know it is common for people to think that Blizz has so much money that they should hire 5,000 more developers. Then, they can incorporate every single thing that every single sub wants. Well, the reality is that just throwing people at a problem does not solve it. It just makes things worse, and the people that were working on something else will now have to spend time cleaning up the mess that was made. Overall, throwing people at problems slows things down even further.

No they don't. There other titles don't interfere either as they are separate teams for each product, if they aren't making those products the employees aren't hired.

Tbh, Valley of the Four Winds could've been scrapped entirely. I'd rather have seen class quests.

Is that really the case here though? A team in charge of zone development and a team in charge of class quest development would collaborate on some things, for sure, but they're not really both picking up the same table. It's more like 8 people picking up the table and 8 people picking up the chairs. Table needs to give some direction to chairs about how many to get and where to go, but what they did instead was 8 people stood there and said, "Well, we can't get the table AND the chairs. Let's just take the table".

The argument sounds fairly ridiculous to me anyway. I don't know how long the warlock quest is, but surely making a quest chain for each class would just amount to y'know, making 11 quest chains, rather than an entire zone. 2 questlines per patch would have been doable.

    5.0: Monk
    5.1: Mage/Warlock
    5.2: Hunter/Druid
    5.3: Warrior/Rogue
    5.4: Shaman/Paladin
    5.5: Priest/Death Knight

Just for example. I do get skeptical whenever the multi-million dollar company that is blizzard claims to not have enough resources. Obviously throwing more people at something does not always solve it, but in this case it does. Having a small team on the side dedicated to class quests who could give every class a quest chain each xpac would be great and perfectly doable.

You actually got it completely wrong. The question should have been: does Blizzard compromise too little?

Blizzard prefers a small in-house team, and they have their reasons for that, like it or not. Hiring more people in order to be able to churn out more content would be a compromise.

How so? Because they'd have to part with an extra few hundred quid? Because no one else in the entire world has that special blizzard something? Don't be ridiculous, another dozen people working on class quests or however many people blizzard like to have in their teams would be nothing but good.

Class quests are a bad example.

But the game needs leadership, and I'm sorry to say but the Ghostcrawler & Company team no longer seems to be providing leadership. They're more interested in catering to everyone, reactionarilly putting out fires as they start. Eternally following high hopes with failing to live up to them and saying "next time for sure."

It's time someone said "this is the game's direction. don't like it, leave."

Boldness is repaid in loyalty, just ask Scott K. Walker.

And just what is so "special" about Townlong Steppes and all the other bajillion ordinary collect x, kill y quests that are scattered throughout Pandaria.

Blizzard devs are humans, who routinely make extremely costly errors in terms of customers which are initially dismissed and then later acknowledged. (4.0 heroics, dailies) and in the case of 5.2 the raid only faction that will end with massive hate for LFR. (because once again, they can't imagine that when guild raids get stuck on the 2nd boss, the members will be stuck running LFR for faction)

Slightly off-topic: I'm pretty sure that Blizzard staff doesn't get paid in British Pounds.

You act as if raid only factions have never existed before or like there's no concurrent daily faction. Stop using tunnel vision.

Nobody should be allowed to talk about "how easy" it would be for Blizzard to do this or that until they've read The Mythical Man-Month.
