Peeps, notice how theres no "April 2013" box on the GW2 patch tracking site? https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-ga...es/march-2013/

Usually, after a patch hits, they update that site with a black box and a question mark in with the month and year hovering above it, but there isn't one now. Maybe April won't have a patch?

I loved Gabranth. It was mostly Vayne and Venat (and anyone who subscribed to their mentality). Venat was guilty of doing the exact same thing she condemned her fellow Occuria for doing (manipulating Ivalice to fall in line with her version of how the world should unfold) and for as much as Vayne & Co. were all about not letting the 'gods' control their destinies, they willingly handed over theirs entirely to Venat.

Alright guys. We gotta stop the Final Fantasy talk now.

A little off topic conversation is fine occasionally. It is also okay to bring in other subjects vis-a-via Guild Wars 2 too.

But we can't go on for pages & pages about /whatever/.

Pretty interesting tidbit I read on this:

One of the things they’re [Arena.net] most proud of, small as it might be, is the way in which the Living Story ditched the “talking heads” vignettes players experienced all throughout their 1-80 personal story and instead opted for the more immediate and in-game voiced cinematics that are a lot more like Guild Wars 1. The talking heads took you out of the game each time, and ultimately Colin said that this more traditional representation of the character interaction just feels better and much less jarring.

Are you kidding me with this sale? Bunny ears? There's 2 days left in March and there hasn't been a single upgrade on sale all month let alone "upgrades" (plural).

    Any news about GW2 Expansion?
As I remember GW1 got expansion every six months (?)
And we've to buy it right?

  9. #30349
More like 1/y and not even that is accurate

Some very bad reporting out there saying no expansions. In that interview Colin wanted to focus on discussing their current projects, not talk about the expansion which is what the interviewer wanted to discuss. This has been since clarified on the official forums.

No one said we will never do an expansion, all Colin says (again) is that we are currently focusing on Living Story and other ongoing to the live game.

There has to be one next year. If you look at the amounts of elder dragons we still have to beat there's no other option. Calling it now GW2 1st expansion april 2014.

What do you mean by amounts of elder dragons we still have to beat? We may very well defeat other elder dragons in other expansion. What if the next expansion is a EotN type expansion which will expand Tyria. Woodland Cascades, Dominion of Wind, Blood Legion Homeland, Janthir Bay, Isles of Janthir, Far Shiverpeaks, Ring of Fire, Maguuma Wastes. This would be perfect for the fight against both Jormag and Primordus.

Kralkatorrik could always be used in the Elona expansion, but very uncertain about Bubbles as there are some rumours about Anet not doing a Canthan expansion.

I'm a bit dissapointed. No Easter event. They could add some choco eggs nodes that you could turn for some choco bunny mace skin or smth xD

    Release Dates:
    Proph: 28/04/2005
    Canta: 28/04/2006
    Elona: 27/10/2006
    GWEN: 31/08/2007
    GW2: 28/08/2012

The only dragon we've actually fought so far is Zhaitan. This leaves 4-5 dragons to be beaten: Primordus, Kralkatorrik, Jormag, Bubbles and Mordremoth.

We don't know anything about Palawa Joko and Glint, two of the most important lore characters in Tyria, so we expect a return of them.
Seeing as the entire game so far seems to revolve around just one dragon (entire PS + 3 zones).

So let's say that each expansion we get in the future will deal with 2 dragons (more likely 1). If we fight 3-4 it seems likely that we'll face Primordus and Jormag in the north/west and Bubbles + Kralkatorrik in the south with Palawa Joko and Glint to aid us.

Those dragons are too big to be put in through patches, the lore is very important regarding all those dragons and they open up new player races as well (mainly Kodan for the north and Quaggan in the south).

Now let's just look at the map, there are 5zones that are explorable so far: Ascalon, Kryta, Mag Jung, Orr and the Shiverpeaks.

There are also 10 zones that are unexplorable atm: Ring of Fire, Crystal Desert, Scavenger's Causeway, Deldrimor Front, Blazeridge Mountains, Blood Legion Homelands, Woodland Cascades, Far Shiverpeaks, Isles of Janthir Maguuma Wastes and Magus Falls. This number is perfectly dividable by 5 suggesting we'll indeed see at least 2 expansions.

So, this leaves the rumors intact, Bubbles doesn't have to be in the game (glint, pwj and kral should be enough for one expansion)
But there certainly is room for him. However this estimate makes the game very crowded. It seems more likely that the 5 regions at the top will house one dragon and another (set of) dragon(s) will house the bottom.

It's a given that Jormag will guard the north but now there's a problem, who'll guard the south and the west? The crystal desert is Kral's domain while Maguuma is for Primordus. But if we look at the map again something immediatly jumps at you. Crystal, Deldrimor and Scav seem to be a nice secluded area and in the west there's a line as well Maguuma, Magus, Rings.

So it's possible that the game will have 2expansions but this again makes the south feel crowded. It looks like each expansion will have around 5zones, it's unlikely that a-net will expand the north a lot (just make the map scroll higher up north and some 'mini zones' like gendarran fields, harathi hinterlands,... [instead of big zones as kryta, ascalon,...]) but the south is a different story.
Let's say a-net is happy with the (sugested) distribution of 5zones/expansion. This means that the south should remain untouched since there are 6zones there already. This doesn't look nice on the map though and it doesn't fit the pattern of square zones (in the south east). It seems like there's an easy solution. Add 2 zones to the south east/west with each expansion. This isn't that much work and it makes the game 'square' again (two zones in the east: one under scav and one under Crystal and two in the west under RoF and RoO) and connected to eachother.

The problem with the last theory is that we don't have that much lore left regarding Primordus. We know quite a bit from GW and the books add to this that the maguma jungle seems to bit too uncharacteristic (when I imagine Primordus I think of RoF). A solution would be to add Mordremoth with Primordus.

With all the work that needs to be done regarding zones/lore I'm gonna the first expansion will make us fight Jormag, followed by Kralkatorrik and lastly Primordus.

There are other possible combinations depending on if you count bubbles or not but it's quite apparent that we'll see at least 2expansions. If you want to keep everyone excited you need to story to continue somewhat soon. Since we're already 7months into the game and a-net chose to release a new zone (sea of sorrows) instead of bringing an unused zone into action it looks like they're saving those zones for something else.
It's weird to me to "reserve" map parts already and just not do anything with them for a long period of time. It's a lot more logical to reserve something for a relatively soon date, this date would be 1-1.5y.

Add to this the already provided link by karizee saying the first GW2 expansion will drop this year there's a couple of notable dates. End of august, october and april.

August is a likely candidate since that would be the 1y anniversary+GWEN anniversary, the problem is that it feels really soon. There's a lot of work that needs to be done to balance and polish the game further.

October has had one release and gives a-net 3extra months to polish the game, it also falls before the holiday period which is great for sales. The problem is that there's usually a lot of competition in this period (cod/halo/bf/wow/the new consoles/...).

April has had the two first releases of GW. It's far enough away to get the marketing machine going and gives a-net time to polish the game and let it ride out a bit (e-sport success?) so the team can take it easy on current content and work on the expansion more. The biggest issue here is that it falls after the holidays (although a-net risked this already) and that the total time before expansion release would be 20months which seems a tad too long but close to the "relatively soon" date of 1-1.5y.

Uhh, we do know something about Glint. She's dead, Kralk himself killed her just before Snaff died, at the end of Edge of Destiny (fighting alongside the "heroes", as well).

Snaff was written to be a very Lord of the Flies "Simon" type character, one of which I never empathized with, but losing Glint like that, in vain no less, is one of the reasons I'll never forgive the shit writing done regarding Logan's character.

Who is Mordremoth though? I don't recall this name ever being mentioned prior to now.
