I don't understand how you can think that's a good price for it. Even if the game
would be free to play it would still be a huge rip off. Insanely shitty value for money.

Every model, animation, texture, particle effect etc. they put to the cash shop is one
asset that's not in the text scenario, dungeon or raid.

So basically you pay for the content with your subscription fee which they then put to
the cash shop so they can rip you off because Vivendi wants more money.

    Sounds pretty fair! Right...?
There are COUNTLESS companies who make a killing on digital goods in this era. Very low cost and massive margins because you make it once and can sell it unlimited times. If people enjoy their product they are going to pay it, simple. If you are a GOOD business you will charge the highest you think you could get.

I can understand them being ~15$, since you get one on every character forever, its not like you buy them one at a time.

Wrong you charge the highest you think you can get that also dose not give you a huge amount of back lash.

If they sell 1 million of these helms and 1 million people unsub they did not make a dime on those sells they just cut even on what they lost from the sub drop. Blizzard is losing subs by the truck load and have even stated they will lose more subs by the end of the year/xpac.

They cost 15$ to try to make up for the sub lost sorry believing anything different then that is foolish Helm cost 15$ US and Sub cost 15$ US. All they are doing is trying to slow down the bleed of there money going away and as I said its shitty double dipping and saying "You don't have to buy it" dose not change the fact they are trying to double dip.

A lot of people just quit and never post on the forums, which is why yes, we can't just only judge the forums like you said.
Right so anyone claiming they know anything about the reason for sub decline or understand the vast majority is purely speculation, and based on very little. I could say the subs declined because the theme was pandas. Who knows?

Well then we will see what their yearly revenue is at the end of the year 2013 then

But of course by then you'll forget the post already.
275 million dollars NET revenue for the first quarter is already "in".

We will count it all up until Dec 31 2013.

And then we will see how that "competition" that went with free to play garbage and got lost in the subs High Way actually turned out in $$$ signs.

Probably below 10 million dollars per year for those Free to Play thingies with 3 zillion imaginary players, hanging in there to sell content at 10 dollars a piece no one will even wants to pay ...

This, there is a reason EA was named the "worst company". Your reputation is just as important as your profit, because it directly ties into your profits. You can claim "they a corporation of course they want to make money!" all you want to defend this, but corporations also take into account their reputation as well, because they are smart enough to see how it directly relates to profits.

Yes, that was my whole point. Obviously they decided $15 was a good spot and I think they were right on. There will always be people who bitch. If it was $5 we'd STILL have people against it.

Hey look its benbos trying to bash F2p games again will you kindly please piss off because none of that is related to the topic at hand. Take your F2p game bashing somewhere else and hate to bust your fucken bubble but Rift is f2p and is still rolling out great content.

At 5$ we would only have people that were against this whole thing on principle being pissed(including me;sub+pay is totally not cool blablabla) but with such a ridiculous price you even turn a lot of people against you that were liking the idea of transmorph items in the shop, no way they would've imagined this pricing.
As a company you try to make the most money right now but should also keep an eye on the long run, which is where this will hurt I guess. I for one am not going to buy a Blizzard game again, that's 1 customer gone already because of this and I can't be the only one. I am too invested in my 8/9y char to totally quit wow so I unsubbed for next month only but a next game is another story.

I also doubt anyone thinking of starting WoW is going to invest when they hear they would pay a 13E/month sub and still don't get everything ingame, heck even the word of a cashshop exsisting will turn people off let alone seeing the pricing. I know my friends are never coming back now.

This is true, but i dunno about you, but I find these helms to be very particular in theme, icy skull, fiery horns, red something or other. Out of all 3 the horns are the only ones that would go with maybe 2 of my 30 odd characters outfits.

I don't tend to have all my characters in fiery themed outfits, and my main who is a druid, doesn't *benefit* from any of the helms at all (which is fine of course

So while yes you get them on every toon and every new toon you make, it doesn't make it for me all that important, because it's very limited in its use for me, so bascially £10 is spent on 2 characters getting the use out of the helm.

Might be fun to use on a lowbie toon as something flashie whilst levelling, but still would get boring using it on every toon I play. So for me personally not worth the money.

Still it is vanity stuff, and everyone can decide for themselves what they find is worth spending their own money on

I do think it is a little steep, though I'd be lying if I said I was surprised, it's only a little more than the pet prices afterall. After much debating, I decided to buy one, I didn't have to feel guilty about supporting the store, since I don't really have a problem with it as long as it's nothing game breaking, I liked the look of the Hood of Hungering Darkness so I made a new transmog set on my warlock revolving around it.

It looks really awesome, I'm pretty happy with it, do I wish it was a little cheaper? sure, but I am happy with the helm and will probably use it on some other characters as well.

I think a price tag of £5 - 6 would have been more acceptable, but me with my weak willpower, bought it with the £10 tag regardless, what can I say, if something looks awesome I will buy it.

They look really awesome! but 12 euros... hmm...

A question I've seen tossed around and not really answered has to do with the BOA aspect of the Blizzard stuff versus some of the other F2P games where an item binds to a single character instead of an account. Since I don't play in a lot of F2P games (just started with Rift this week) I have no idea is that's true or not.

So is this true generally? And does it matter? Is the BOA aspect worth some extra dough?

FYI: I'm entirely neutral about the helms. Could not care less either way but was a little taken aback at $15 (US). Like many I had expected them to be much less. But the fact that you can use them on old toons or any new toons might be worth something. So was curious.

We don't know for certain if Blizzard included the BOA aspect into the price, but even if it were, it's certainly worth it.

Take a game like SWTOR for instance, where their Cash Shop armor sets and mounts are not BOA. There are a lot of complaints even now that they are only for one character.

Well, this will amp that up a lot I guess. If other MMO's make their cash shops BOA and keep lower prices then that serves the ball back to Blizzard. Competition is good.

$15 is way too much money for 1 piece of cosmetic gear the most I would pay is $5 and that's pushing it.

$45 for three helmet skins is a bit much, considering the time it must have taken to make those.

TF2 is a free game with tons of hats and i recently bought a hat for half of the price for my Pyro.

Even if youre not forced to buy it tons of nonfanboys are laughing at Blizzard.

Well atleast Blizzard still got people saying "hey its not gamechanging" but i wouldnt be surprised if the STEAMcommunity and the rest of the humanity is mocking the playerbase.

Wow, just wow... I was disgusted when they added pets and mounts for real money to begin with. This whole xmog thing (moving towards full p2w model) is even worse. And then theres the price. Lol, 12€ a piece? 12€ for all three would be expensive as fuck. The greedyness off Activision/Blizzard reaches new heights. They should be ashamed.

This. Also, exploitative models = even more sub losses
