Let's muse on this: Azeroth in the year 2031.

I like to extrapolate. Let us extrapolate.
Currently, the events of the Siege of Orgrimmar place us in the year 31. Let's fast-forward two thousand years. What sort of Azeroth will we have in the year 2031?

To make this interesting, we will make the following assumptions:

    1) Azeroth and its' people survive whatever is thrown at it. Sargeras and the Old Gods are, somewhere along the line, permanently defeated and/or locked away properly.
    2) Long-lived races continue being long-lived, but will deal more and more with the short-lived races, like they have been for a few decennia already.
    3) Goblin / Gnome engineering rivalry remains and flourishes with technological discoveries.
    4) Magic remains in use and does not 'die out' because of Reasons.
    5) It will not be "Warhammer 2K", that's a boring answer. Quiet you.

Compared to a magicless world like earth, 2000 years of only 1 dominant race has been quite a trip. What do YOU think would happen on Azeroth in the same timespan, given what sort of technological marvel they're already starting with?

    My ideas:

Night Elves and the Cenarion Circle adopt the druidic teachings as a universal message of Life. Utilizing technological advances, they flourish as planetary terraformers, seeding otherwise lifeless worlds with boundless flora. Initially, they will use the Draenei/Naaru space-faring vessels for this, but eventually, they will develop their own mode of transport. Half engineered, half naturally grown. Think spacewhales, but botanical ones.

Gnomish and Goblin technological rivalries will lead to increasingly violent wars of espionage, sabotage and a weapon race of world-threatening proportions. Alliance and Horde (or whatever their paralells will be 2000 years in the future) will eventually form a NATO-like organisation to limit the advance and resulting violence.

After the defeat of the Burning Legion, warlocks completely vanish over time. Shamanism takes over throughout Orcish culture, and through practice, ancestral guidance and discoveries, many Orcs eventually shed their mortal forms to completely live as spirit creatures. This creates a new schism in Orcish culture, physical VS incoorporeal.

Forsaken make use of the dicoveries in alchemy, medicin and technology to bind their spirits to machinal forms. Removing the constant pain and agony they are burdened with, their outlook on 'life' (and what life means to them), changes enough for them to be less shunned by the rest of Azerothian society, eventually leading to complete reintergration with the rest of the living world. As awesome punk-haired cyborgs.

It would be warhammer 2k...Sorry to say but that "Boring answer" Is the most correct one.

The word 'correct' doesn't apply when we're extrapolating across a thousand different possibilities.

Actually at the start of WoD we'll be in the year 31, not 41. Siege of Orgrimmar is near the end of year 30.

I can't imagine how it would look after 2000 years. Probably something close to Starcraft.

there's an unknown giant black hole a mere few thousand miles away from azeroth. they get caught in it's grasp and the planet is destroyed long before they even create proper spaceships.

They have proper spaceships. They are called Dimensional Ships and are powered by the Naaru.

Well at the pace this story's going the races will have either wiped eachother out completely or spread across the galaxy with magical spaceships. Maybe both.

Azeroth races seem very resillient really; they must have so many babies.

Take humans: they were wiped out from Azeroth(continent) in the first war, then *nearly* wiped out in Lordaeron in the second war, before regaining everything including Azeroth(continent). *Somehow* they manage to repopulate before the Third War turns up and completely wipes out Lordaeron YET AGAIN, except for some survivors who flee to Kalimdor, where they are finally wiped out at the start of MoP. And STILL the humans are invading Outland, taking on the Lich King, invading Pandaria, invading Orgrimmar and soon invading Draenor *again*. All this happens over a timespan of 30 years?

Then take orcs: In the same time they come from Draenor, attack Stormwind and get beaten back, then finally take over Azeroth(continent) and cross the Great Sea to Lordaeron where they first win, but then get completely annihilated. Then there's only the Orcs on Draenor left and the ones in concentration camps and perhaps a few in Twilight Highlands and thereabouts, but so few the Alliance ISN'T EVEN WORRIED. Draenor gets destroyed with most orcs on it. A bunch of orcs later escape from the concentration camps and flee to Kalimdor with a handful of stolen ships. They hang out there a bit, zergrush the Night Elves with plenty casualties and then pretty much fight to the death at the World Tree! Apparently there's still some survivors: they're *entire* orc population of the Horde in WoW... And then they invade Northrend, Undercity, Pandaria etc only to get steamrolled by the Alliance...

The other races don't really have much better histories...

My point is... WHERE DO ALL THESE FULLY GROWN CHARACTERS COME FROM?!! xD

uhm..what the fel are you talking about Humans getting wiped out during the first war?
The Kingdom of Azeroth was burnt to the ground, yes most of the kingdom fell to orcish hand.

the survivers(a bloody lot!, remember we don't see every single person in the world in the game!) fleed north, the humans then banded together and pushed back the orcish invaders, the dark portal was shut down, nether guard keep was built and stormwind rebuilt more or less.

    "
The Orcish Horde conquer the planet of Draenor.

Orc clans begin fighting amongst themselves.

The child sorcerer Medivh is born of a coupling between the court Conjurer and a mysterious traveler.

Llane is born to King Adamant Wrynn III and Lady Varia.

Medivh falls into a coma, and his father dies.

While unconscious, Medivh sends Gul'dan a vision of Azeroth and the vast resources it contains.

Medivh awakens from a six year coma on the same day that Llane becomes Prince of Azeroth, and sometime thereafter begins work on the Dark Portal. The warlocks on Draenor find a small tear in the dimensional fabric and begin studying it, using this information to unite the Orcish Horde once again.
    The First war Begins
The Dark Portal is opened and the Horde begins their invasion.

Initial battles do not go well for the Horde. Expecting an easy victory against a weak opponent, the orcs rush to assault the fortress of Stormwind Keep, only to suffer a defeat of catastrophic proportions. Few orcs survive the initial battle.

The Age of Chaos begins with the First War and the death of King Adamant.

The Horde is humiliated by the unexpected rout, and the clans swiftly descend into turmoil. Chaos ensues, with factions blaming each other for the orcs' defeat.

Gul'dan manipulates a ruthless dictator onto the throne of the Warchief. Known as Blackhand the Destroyer, the new Warchief rallies the clans back together again and prepares them for a new assault on Azeroth. The orcs begin raiding activities against outlying human settlements near the Black Morass.

Medivh sends Gul'dan another vision, teasing him with images of the Tomb of Sargeras and the power it contains.

The orcs bring reinforcements surging into Azeroth, decimating towns and villages and plundering everything in their path. The towns of Grand Hamlet and Sunnyglade are destroyed.

Lord Anduin Lothar realizes Medivh's betrayal. He leads a small band of warriors to Medivh’s tower and confronts the wizard. Lothar and Khadgar slay Medivh, but Sargeras' spirit escapes.

While searching the mind of Medivh for the true location of the Tomb of Sargeras, Gul'dan falls in a coma during the death of the Grand Magus, leaving Blackhand and the Shadow Council helpless.

Durotan, chieftain of the Frostwolf clan, and his mate Draka seek an audience with Doomhammer and tell him that Gul'dan seeks to betray the Horde. On their return trip, they are ambushed and slain by orcs loyal to Gul'dan. The assassins leave Durotan's infant son for dead, but the young orc is quickly discovered and saved by a band of humans under the command of Aedelas Blackmoore. The infant is taken as a slave and given the name Thrall.

Blackhand the Destroyer is betrayed and slain by Orgrim Doomhammer, a trusted general and close friend. Doomhammer replaces Blackhand as Warchief of the Horde.

Spies loyal to Orgrim Doomhammer capture and torture Garona. In agony, she reveals the existence of the Shadow Council and directs them to the location of Gul'dan's warlocks near the ruins of Stormwind Keep.

Doomhammer dispatches his elite wolfriders to the ruins. They slay or execute most of Gul'dan’s warlocks and disperse the remaining members of the Shadow Council. Gul'dan awakens from his coma and pleads for mercy from Doomhammer, offering complete submission. Doomhammer accepts and grants him mercy.

Northshire, Goldshire, and Moonbrook are destroyed.

Stormwind Keep falls before the full might of the Horde and is sacked. During the battle, King Llane is slain by one of Gul'dan's assassins, the half-orc Garona.

Lord Anduin Lothar concedes that the Kingdom of Azeroth has been lost. He rallies his countrymen and leads them in a desperate retreat across the Great Sea, eventually landing upon the shores of Lordaeron. There, he unites the human nations, high elves, dwarves, and gnomes into the Alliance of Lordaeron against the orcs.

The Warlocks resume their experiments with the portal.

    First war ends.

I said they were wiped out from the continent of Azeroth. Of course a bunch survived and fled north; but there still must have been a considerable death count.. or did Azeroth have a big enough fleet to fit everyone in the kingdom on??

Anyway that's not where my post stopped; every human alive and over the age of 30 in WoW must have fled from their homes AT LEAST ONCE and if they consider themselves citizens of Stormwind at least twice! And the same can be said for almost everyone else... :P

I fuggin' love shit like this. 2000 year speculation, alright-

    Alliance

-Humans, gnomes, and dwarves cover the eastern kingdoms in their cities. Dark Iron dwarf technology leads to the construction of numerous trains and tramways both above and beneath the surface. The church of the holy light purges the Plaguelands of corruption in the wake of the Forsaken's retreat and reclaims the territory for humanity. All races make use of 'vita', an energy of creation first harnessed by Jaina Proudmoore.

-Dwarves successfully construct Titan Creation Forges of their own design and use them to manufacture servitor races for both warfare and labour. Several forges along the eastern coast of Khaz Modan fall to the Curse of Flesh during the Nightmare Incursion and must be purged. The dwarven clans unleash their technology and bury the corrupted Forges beneath the earth. It slows the flow of corrupted servitors... for a time.

-The restored Sunwell leads to a schism in elven society - those who seek to return to the ways of the high elves, who call themselves sun elves, and those who seek to continue the ways of the blood elves. Blood elves leave Quel'Thalas and found a new kingdom in the Blasted Lands, drawing upon the rift that remains from the destroyed Dark Portal. Sun elves use the Sunwell to fuel their magical technology and are more closely aligned with the Alliance factions. Blood elves begin plundering other worlds through the rift and are only loosely associated with the Horde.

-Many gnomes join the draenei aboard the Exodar along with high elves, goblins, and other races. The Exodar reunites with Tempest Keep and departs Azeroth.

-Night elves and worgen vanished from Azeroth after the Nightmare Incursion.

    Horde

-Orcish industry thunders onwards. After the Nightmare Incursion and the loss of Durotar, the orcs rebuild their homeland in Stonetalon, cleaving mountains and raising foundries. Shamans binds elements to service, in the manner of the taunka and dark shaman. Elemental binding provides more advanced power sources of orc technology.

-Trolls and tauren vanished from Azeroth after the Nightmare Incursion.

-The forsaken retreated from the surface, hiding beneath the world. Their Undercities lie deep beneath nearly every major settlement on Azeroth. The largest is Everblight, a kingdom hidden within the rotting roots of Teldrassil, the long abandoned night elf capital. The dark magic animating Sylvanas Windrunner has, after millennia, evolved and transformed her into a powerful demigod. Her people are few in number, but capture the corpses of the surface world's best and brightest and raise them in Val'kyr Engines to create powerful agents. The forsaken blight is the only thing keeping the Nightmare infestation in Teldrassil from spreading to engulf Kalimdor.

-Many goblins departed Azeroth aboard the Exodar. Those that remain have constructed cities across northern Kalimdor. They trade with the kingdom of the orcs. Goblins are split between Kalimdor goblins and Undermine goblins - the goblins of Undermine have unearthed ancient goblin technology constructed in the earliest days of their race when their intellect was vastly increased by an unknown mineral. Much of this technology was buried or lost, but the goblins of Undermine seek to rediscover and harness it.

Given Warcraft started life as a Warhammer knockoff, Warhammer 2k sounds pretty accurate.

Garrosh survives and escapes the heroes in WoD, captures another bronze dragon and forces him to send them both to Azeroth 2041 - a future expansion has been leaked, you read it here first.

This is what I was fishing for. Superb stuff. Maybe leaning a little heavily on the 'nightmare incursion' "if", though.

Now for the other side of the spectrum...

As long as we have Metzen and the rest in charge, this is most likely the future.

They (Blizz) seem Hell-Bent on making it always about Orcs and Humans because of some dumb RTS that was released decades ago that few of the WoW audience actually played.

Fortunatly, there is not much interesting about warhammer. It's a testosterone-fueled wankfest of worn-out sci-fi tropes and needless grimdark, topped with a clusterfuck of awkwardly aligned factions.

On Topic, either the horde or alliance would have killed the other by then, you know technology and all that
