    Which is better for Warcraft?

Answer the poll and comment your thoughts relating to your answer.

It appears that the problems in WoW's coding would force them to squish every few expansions or fix their engine/coding. Which road should they travel: squish, fix engine/coding, or WoW2?

I vote you put up a poll first.

We've had quite a few threads on this subject (All of which are very negative, so this is kind of a "pass.")

Squish is far better. If we waited for WoW2 (which is what an engine update of that magnitude would be) we'd have several years with no WoW and not just one.
Soothing Mist:"Healing them for a minor amount every 0.5 sec, until you take any other action."
Jade Serpent Statue: "The statue will also begin casting Soothing Mist on your target. healing for 50% as much as yours. "
    [What's half of minor?]
"Statue casts Soothing Mist at a nearby ally for toddler healing."

Who's to say they couldn't make WoW2 in the background while releasing content for WoW?

Fixing the engine would be the best longterm solution.

The engine update and WoW2 is the same thing. They would take comparably long amount of time, so there is no point in trying bring old wow to a new engine.

You do realize it's only the combat engine, not the entire game engine?

    Actually this.

What would a WoW2 achieve, besides throwing players progress out the window and fragmenting the community even more.
I could hope for engine updates, but the squish is more realistic at this point and despite the noise is being done for a good reason.
Blizzard will even be including buffs to ensure that old content remains as soloable as it has been, so really there is no reason for all the stupid fuss over it.
If there are issues come beta, well that is what beta is for.

What do the engine and coding have to do with it? It's just numbers and creep. This problem would be, and is, present in any game that is out for long enough, with enough upgrading content.

Considering they said that they didn't want to keep the big numbers to begin with, which makes total sense, a squish is the best option.

Instead of hitting a mob with 300k hp for 45k, you will be hitting a mob with 3000hp for 450. Why the immense interest in this pointless, uninteresting non-topic?

If they changed the color of the head on the calico-cat pet it would have bigger impact on game play. Thread after thread of just nonsense......

Poll results like this tend to show just how marginalized and extreme our most prolific posters are.

If you took a poll at Blizzcon and asked "Would you rather end all new content here and now and get WoW2 in three or so years or another stat squish and the next expansion come out within one year, which would you choose" the results for the former would need a magnifying glass to see. On the big screen the devs sat in front of.

The truth is the engine doesn't need fixing. According to a recent tweet by watcher there was no technical limitation forcing them to do a squish. When they said that it was an inaccurate statement.

So the only real reason to do the squish is (I don't like big numbers - we should make them smaller.)

The squish is a requirement, not an option.
The numbers were getting too high for the game engine to deal with (32 bit), so they HAD to squish it.

Not sure why they would say this, since it's wrong.
They do have to lower the numbers, because there IS a limitation.
Just because someone says there isn't doesn't make it true. It's simply a fact.
If they don't like higher numbers, why did they make them so high in the first place.

No it was a "inaccurate statement" according to watcher. I'll take his word over yours. There was no technical limitation forcing the squish. That idea is now debunked.

I believe one encounter actually bugged out due to excessive health, and therefore had several heals introduced into it.
So yes, there is a technical limitation.

It isn't coding, it's their linear reward mechanism. They have built in power creep, and the only way to deal with that is to occasionally let off steam. Ideally, they'd modify all content to be a viable and balanced avenue for reward at top level, but we haven't heard about their scaling mechanism in a long, long time.

It was fixable they just didn't bother because they preferred to do a squish. There was no technical limitation forcing a squish. That was misinformation. I know you guys don't like it, but it's the way it is.
