Given the (expected) price of the R9 Fury non-X and the R9 Nano as well as - FuryX2? - and AMD's tendency to be better at launch bad initial drivers and then eek out all the juice of the card as things progress?
Likely. That was reported already during Thursday by Kitguru, which was reasonably close to after the embargo let up. (assuming I can interpret times correctly)
In other words, dems fighting words.

It could also be that they want to be super aggressive with prices to trounce the recent nVidia scepticism to make them a "friend company" again. Or to just drive AMD to desperation, since they historically have been more pro-active with price cuts, hoping to cut their margins?

But yeah, I am thinking we have not seen the end of how far the Fury X can go in benchmarks either.

As a sidenote, I think it curious how different communication levels are held; AMD in the Nordic basically blatantly told SweClockers that "..the 300-series are rebadges.." on the question whether they really were a new and improved circuit.
AFTER news of the opposite submerged from AMD America.

Gee, thanks Chazus for reminding me on how long I've been here. That's nearly depressing. :c

The furyX has something like 3 TFlop more compute performance than a 980ti (8.5 compared to about 6) if the spec sheet is anything to go by. It has 4096 stream processors, that power is going to turn up somewhere.

Not sure about gaming but it is a decent hardware accelerator for single precision stuff.
At the moment though in compute ratios, it's like this.
    Tahiti (280s/79xx)'s FP64 is 1/4 FP32.
    Original Titan(Black)'s is 1/3 FP32.
    R9 Hawaii (290s/390s) is 1/8 FP32.
    Maxwell is 1/32 FP32.
    Fury is 1/16 FP32.

Then in comparison to actual workstations like either FirePro at 1/2 FP32 or Kepler based Tesla at 1/3 FP32. Both of em top about 5TFlops~ FP32 from my mastery of fail googling.

I'd be really curious though what Fury would be like if they axed double precision even more. Not like gamers really need it and they still have FirePro beating out Tesla in FP64.

Efficiency that could be used else where or just not at all. The main reason why maxwell is so energy efficient is because pretty much all DP compute was axed.

The i3 and i7 comparison isn't really that well... comparable. For games they have no use for Double Precision, which isn't the same as cutting off core and cache for a CPU. Since you're using CPU, more comparable would be to cut off the IGPU in a CPU and reduce TDP or use that die space for other purposes because for a gamer with a DGPU that would prove to be useless.
Despite a node shrink for Skylake and proposed efficiency increase, the 6600k/6700k have a 95W TDP due to their Iris IGPU in there.

The workstation ones aren't made for games the Mac Pro for example, The MacPro for example, despite being essentially a Tahiti GPU repurposed to a workstation, doesn't perform as well as a 280x in games, You sacrifice one thing for another in these.

    Apparently you can overclock FuryX.

If you reboot your PC enough times the overclocking thing in CCC glitches and is enabled.

Memory overclocking is supposed to be locked down, core overclocking is supposed to be enabled "soon".

I know about the binning and such, I believe for the 79xx was very common that they end up lasering (or not at all) for the 7950.

And I see what you mean. Still would be interesting to see a new design without it from AMD.

Did Anyone update their Windows 10's AMD driver to their latest release already? All the others were automatically download by windows update without me having to care, which made me think MS would finally do this correctly, but this one isn't showing up so yeah...

Oh... 7xx is officially legacy. Wow that is the shortest support I've seen.

Not sure how I should feel about that... Seems pretty shitty on their part, honestly.

    So...

    Long story short.

I'm now the happy owner of a couple additions to my photographing arsenal...

Upgrade from Canon Rebel T3 to Canon 7D Mark II
Been using and will continue to use Sigma 18-35 f/1.8
    Added today a Canon 70-300 L IS USM f/4-5.6

    Whoa.

hehe, it's still not a full frame, but that Sigma makes it worth it.

I'll figure out something to get pictures of to share. :P
