My Transformation/Road to the Bodybuilding Stage

I began my fitness journey one year ago.

    - Stats(Before): 260-265 lbs, 5;7, 28-31% bodyfat

    - Stats(Current): 167 lbs, 5;7, 10-11% bodyfat

Two years ago I almost died of an a-fib heart which almost resulted in a stroke. At the age of 23 I almost lost my life because of my terrible eating habits and lack of exercise. Fast forward a bit to one year later. This time last year I weighed close to 260 pounds, and carried around a staggering amount of body fat. On the day I married the love of my life, I looked through our photographs together and decided that I needed to transform myself. After years of binge eating junk food, fighting my addiction to sitting at my computer for hours on end downing around a case of soda a day, and allowing anything and everything to bring my mood down, I finally realized that if I did not change, I would most likely die at an early age. My son Dominic and wife Chryssi are the most important parts of my life and the main factors that pushed me to change who I was.

I started by only eating smaller portions, not even eating clean. Then one day I found "Pumping Iron" and this switch inside my head was flipped. So I began my fitness journey at our local gym, Anytime Fitness, and have since reached every goal I have set for myself. Without the wonderful friends and trainers I have met at Anytime Fitness, I may very well have given up along my fitness path. Almost every day I have people asking about my training and dieting programs. I am very proud of the fact that other people are seeking my help on their fitness journeys.

I began eating properly in August 2014, and began my training in September 2014. I have been tracking my meals for 160 days, and haven't missed a single gym session, even when I am feeling under the weather. In the past 12 months, I have come a long way, and this is only the beginning!

I am competing in my first All Natural Mens Physique / Mens Novice show in October, and cannot wait to see my hard work pay off. In my small amount of downtime from training I am studying to obtain my personal trainer certification. I aspire to inspire!!

Thank you. The only issue I am having is being VERY irritable and easily agitated while cutting for this first show. It's miserable..

Great work man, I guess you'll start bulking soon? Bulking is alot more fun than cutting, but can easily ruin your weight loss, so be aware of not starting to bulk on Wendy's etc. eating 3500kcal of proper food can be abit of a challenge, when a pizza and a bunch of protein shakes get's the job done aswell.

but really well done, few people realise the amount of effort and fighting binging demons it requires to achieve what you have

Thanks, Crispin. I currently throw in 1-2 days a week of 2500-2700 calories to help with eating so little(which is still little for me). Saturdays are my refeed days(high carb/low fat). The day after my first show(October 17th) I will begin to bulk. Going to try 3000 calories a day for a couple of weeks to see how quickly I add weight. I honestly dont really crave terrible stuff that much. I prefer organic pasta/sauce over the Ragu and what not. I have been SEVERELY craving General Tsos Chicken =(

This is very inspiring, you must feel amazing looking back to old photos.

How many days a week did you try to go for the gym and for how long did you go?

Thank you, Haunt. The only issue I am having is extreme irritability at times from cutting out processed/sugary foods, soda, and not eating nearly as much as I did before I started cutting. It's been rough on family. LOL

Tricks of mine to help cope with lower food intake are chewing gum, drinking diet cranberry juice(my personal favorite), and eating lots of natural peanut butter. My diet is high fat/low carb during the week and high carb/low fat during the weekend(only Saturday this week because I ran above my maintenance yesterday a bit).

Most weeks I attend the gym 5-6 days(90-120 minutes each day). The longer times are because of me training my wife.

I am going to keep this ongoing until I compete in my first show. Hopefully it will help me gain a bit of a following in the gaming community seeing as how gaming is a big part of my life as well. Here is a new picture taken after my Bicep/Tricep workout tonight. I am definitely excited to have such clear vascularity. I worked my butt off to achieve that look, especially when not flexing.

So, what do you do, go Bajheera mode, eat chicken breast with broccoli and lift weights?

Twiitch-I dont meal plan at all. My supplements are set out the day before, and my aminos/creatine/citrulline are mixed the night before.

Grimbold - I rarely eat broccoli anymore. I stick to mainly chicken/protein bars/natural peanut butter/cheese/organic chili beans/low cal soups.

This is from yesterday. My old Bench PR was 210 and it took me 2 months to break through to the next level. Heres 225 at 3 reps(final rep was a negative). This type of weight is extremely difficult when you have lost so much body weight.

And this is how I spend my time at the playground with my son. LOL
