[Movies] Your Top 10 Films of 2016 (So Far)

    2012 2013 2014 2015

MMO-Champion Top 10 Movies of 2016 (based on the 11 highlighted lists below):

    01. Deadpool (60 points)

    02. Captain America: Civil War (59 points)

    03. Arrival (40 points)

    04. Kubo and the Two Strings (37 points)

    05. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (36 points)

    06. Captain Fantastic (27 points)

    07. Zootopia (23 points)

    08. The Nice Guys (22 points)

    09. Hunt for the Wilderpeople (20 points)

    10. Nocturnal Animals (17 points)

Note #1: You don’t need to see 10 movies before posting your list.

Note #2: Some 2015 movies are released in 2016 in a lot of countries, and therefore there's usually a lot of movies on the lists that shouldn’t be there. To prevent this, we use the same rule as the Oscars have, which requires the movie to have been screened in Los Angeles in 2016 to be considered a 2016 movie. If you’re in doubt, a quick visit to IMDb should tell you whether or not it’s a 2015 movie. And yes, The Revenant is a 2015 film.

Note #3: Do feel free to use the thread to generally discuss the movies of 2016!

Bold = 10 movies on the list.

I was going to double check that one, I wouldn't remember when it had come out. I might see PPZ this weekend, depends on if we get a little drizzle or a foot of snow. I won't feel bad for missing it in theaters, but I feel like it might be a point better on the big screen.

    Here we go again.

I'm splitting up the watchlist this year; the films in the main section are likely to be watched regardless, and the films in the secondary tier section have piqued my curiosity or interest in some way, but are mostly dependent on reception.

    1. The Handmaiden (Agassi) – 9+
    2. Nocturnal Animals – 9
    3. Arrival – 9
    4. Captain Fantastic – 8+
    5. Hunt for the Wilderpeople – 8+
    6. After the Storm (Umi yori mo mada fukaku) – 8+
    7. The Witch – 8+
    8. Kubo and the Two Strings – 8
    9. The Nice Guys – 8
    10. Swiss Army Man – 8

    Watchlist
    • Suicide Squad

Now that we're in a new year and starting fresh, it might be worth letting you know that ordinal numbers ending in 1, 2 or 3 are appended with ‘st’, ‘nd’ and ‘rd’ respectively (first, second, third).

There is no explicit rule about screening in New York. ‘The required Los Angeles County qualifying run (described in Rule Two Paragraph 2) must begin between January 1, 2015, and midnight of December 31, 2015.’

You can read more about it here. Rule three on page five.

I'll reserve this spot for now, though so far I haven't seen any 2016 releases.

    1)Captain America:Civil War
    2)Train to Busan
    3)Magnificent Seven
    4)Dr. Strange
    5)Jack Reacher:Never Go Back
    6)Don't Breathe
    7)Deadpool
    8)Suicide Squad
    9)Batman v Superman
    10)The Purge:Election Year

I will wait for DVD for:Cloverfield 2, London Has Fallen, Warcraft

That's all I can remember, there may be some I'm forgetting, some I'm not aware of, the rest I don't care.

Thanks for the info. Will probably just write "Updated month/day" this time instead though.

    1. Captain America: Civil War: 8/10

    2. 10 Cloverfield Lane: 7.5/10

    3. Deadpool: 7/10

    4. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice: 7/10

    5. Suicide Squad 6/10

    6. Warcraft: 5.5/10

    7. X-Men Apocalypse: 5/10

    8. Term Life: 5/10

22/2/16: Watched Deadpool yesterday - Not a bad start to the year!
24/3/16: Batman VS Superman - It by no means a classic, or even a great film but its still enjoyable. Its a 6 if I'm being harsh, but I liked it enough to get out of a shit mood. I do think the pressure is on Suicide Squad being a solid film for the franchise to work.
19/5/16: X-Men Apocalypse - I was pretty bored during the whole film. Which is a shame, I've always enjoyed the X-Men series.
17/6/16: Term Life -The whole film just felt flat. The editing was poor and the actors just looked like they were there to cash in a cheque. It still had some likeable moments, but not enough to make it a good film. They really missed the mark here, with the right cast and crew this could have been a really strong adaptation. Anybody still interested in the story should just check out the graphic novel.
5/7/16: Quick add of Warcraft and Claverfield Lane... I was bored throughout Warcraft but really liked 10 Cloverfield Lane.

On a very regular basis at that.

It was interesting to see Deadpool in a theatre with 978 seats.

Reserved for now, haven't seen anything since Star Wars which doesn't count. Stuff I will see definitely is: Jason Bourne, Underworld 5, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Cloverfield 2, Star Wars Rogue 1, Independence Day 2 and maybe Hail Caesar. Potentially more but those are ones I have a vested interest in.

    978 empty seats?

Of course not, I sat in one of them.

And well, a few hundred others. Decently large theatre, though.
